Turo has a rating of 1.6 stars from 69 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Turo most frequently mention customer service, credit card, and terrible experience problems. Turo ranks 205th among Car Rental sites.
All these people here giving bad reviews clearly did not read what they were purchasing. It is clear what you are buying, your deductible is outlines right in front of you. I am a power host and have had a few claims with Turo and all have been quick and fair. Yes, I had to pay a deductible because the plan I personally selected has a deductible that was clear to me before the trip started. If you want a $0 deductible plan you can buy one, just like all other insurance products. You just have to pay more.
Customer service for any issues goes around and around, no one can help. You're transferred on calls or they say they'll make a report of it and then you will hear from them within 48-72 hours. The reply via email in that case will not have anything to do with your actual problem and then you'll have to keep moving in circles because they really don't care about your experience. Cars are not noted to have scratches or dents and the host can try and charge you for ones, make sure you take really thorough pictures before you rent the car.
I have rented from Turo successfully twice. Both rentals were complete without any problems. The cars were exactly what I expected and I had absolutely no problem. I will definitely rent again.
HOWEVER, one reservation was scheduled to begin at 8 am. The host tried to contact me on Turo, which I did not see, and then called Turo who canceled the reservation without my knowledge (the reservation was for an entire week, and was made weeks before), without ever attempting to reach me on my cell phone. So when I checked on my rental (thinking it would be available after all I had reserved it for a week). I was informed I did not have a car, and it was already rented elsewhere.
Since then, I have learned that Turo not only had my cell number (that's how they identified my account) but so did the host. NO ONE called or texted my cell phone. The host then blamed Turo for canceling and re-booking. However, I also learned, she did not have to report that I was late, but chose to.
This could have gone so much better if they had just texted me.
She lost the week-long rental, but I found an excellent car with a really accommodating host.

AVOID AVOID AVOID. Don't count on Turo's help when things go wrong. I attempted to extend a rental that was plagued with issues (that I resolved on my own with the host). Flat tyre, tyre replacement, subsequent NEW flat tyre, presumed valve issues at this point.
For whatever reason, the extension request didn't go through properly on the app and when I contacted support in the morning to arrange the extension with them, I was informed that I would need to make a BRAND NEW RESERVATION on Turo for the car.
This was now going to cost me £330, instead of the £204 quoted to me for the extension I attempted to make the day before, in addition to a NEW DEPOSIT of £250, while they continued to hold my existing £250 deposit. I informed them I would find an alternative solution to making a new booking through them.
Turo support then proceeded to send me threatening emails about contacting local police and keeping all of my deposit if I didn't either return the vehicle immediately (?!) to the host, or make the new booking with them "within the hour".
They then proceeded to take an additional £79.17 payment for the "late return" (which I doubt the host will see a penny of), despite my being in communication with my very friendly host who was aware of our situation at every point on the trip. Still no sign of my deposit being returned.
Being ill and travelling this week has been incredibly stressful, in addition to being a very expensive holiday week. You guys have really been the icing on the cake. Will AVOID in future.
When we discovered on the last day of our trip that the insides of the two front tires on the car we had rented via Turo.com were bald with the steel belt showing, we felt thankful to still be here and couldn't believe we were in this situation. The host of the car had been on the Turo site for a long time and had rented his car out many times... maybe too many times. We drove over 1,000 miles on steep grade highways with limited shoulders to pull off onto and few guardrails for safety throughout the state of Colorado. We also took scenic byways with sheer drop-offs, such as the Million Dollar Highway. Our trip ended by rerouting to a larger highway in order to locate a tire store. Finally, 5 tire stores and half the day later, we spoke with the assistant manager of a Discount Tire store. He advised us that the two front tires could blow out at any time and that the two rear tires were in the red danger zone, according to Colorado state law. We were able to get in touch with the host who paid for 4 new tires to be installed right then. The host offered to give us a discount on our rental for our trouble, but did not. We contacted Turo, but their only offer was to give us a $50. Credit toward our next rental on Turo.com, which we have no desire to do. It is clear to us that policy and regulations need a good makeover. Please be aware that each host on the Turo.com site operates independently and may or may not take the full responsibility of renting out their car to the public with the best safety precautions. Be smart, stay safe.
Its so many dishonest vendors out there putting out raggedy cars and using Turo to steal from honest people. Never rent in Chicago

Never rent from these people in Chicago
I have had a terrible experience with this company. This is my first time hosting with this company and it turned out to be a terrible decision on my part. My first renter obviously had replaced or exchanged the transmission. The shop and adjuster both stated that " it almost looks like the transmission has been removed or exchanged and bolts not tightened correctly. Bolts are loose and missing." " the wire harness attached to transmission has been removed and detached from its securing points on the transmission. The leak is short term and recent. There is no accumulation of dirt in the area". How dare they with this observation stating that mechanical failure due to normal wear and tear of the vehicle and did not cover me through their policy. My car had been driving extremely well with no issue and just had a recent inspection. Hosts, please be aware of thieves, you wouldn't believe people would replace your transmission. Please do not rent your car on Turo because Turo will not cover you when your parts or expensive transmission being replaced by guests. Now I ended up with a huge debt and a non drivable car They failed to protect their hosts and let the criminals out there continue to do that with other hosts.
It's very sickening how they have handled my case and maybe many other cases like this. That is so upsetting.
Ok. Buissness in LA was going to hire a turo car, it was a normal car 4 door 5 days cost was. 480 USA, now I had to go to the car or I could get the owner to pick me up extra 60 USA so it's now 540. Then you need to take the extra insurance cover to reduce you excess from 8000 usa 500 USA 26.50 a day, so now we are at 650 approx USA. No that's just over $1000 Australia. So I go to budget. LAX Airport 4 door standard car brand new 2021 488 Australia that's right not USA. Ultimate cover insurance 34$ a day Australia so no excess nothing to pay if you have a accident, which I hope Never happens, so we're about 750 Australian. I land go to budget they take the info bus me to my car I get in drive out get scanned, then bring it back to the car lot scanned. On budget Bus back to the terminal. Home.
Now the turo way I have to bring the car back to the person's home get a taxi back to the airport 60 bucks.
So I am better off using a reptible company. No saying that. You can hire cheap ones in London 20 pound I hire one it's was a wreck. My life is worth more. Best luck happy holidays. Ps might be a few spelling mistakes but I am a tradie no a jurno

Please avoid ever booking with Turo. Worst and scariest experience I have ever had booking a car. We rented a vehicle last week. Made sure to document all damages during checkin. A soon as you hit 60mph the vehicle would shake barely controlable. The vehicle was not safe to drive. When we returned the vehicle the host claimed the same windshield damage which was included with pictures in our checkin process. When we disputed the host got vengeful and claimed smoke damage as well with no proof of smoking. We thought we would be okay because Turo wouldn't stand for such a scam. Needless to say, Turo immediately blocked my account and began unlawfully charging my credit card. Their only response was we trust our host and provided zero proof or explanation. After multiple fraudulent charges we had to make a report to our creditors. Turo will never help the guest, be prepared for more hidden fees after the end of the trip. We feel completely scammed. All the pictures before and after did nothing to help. Turo didn't even care to review them. "Our decision is made" and nothing you say will change that was their response to a multiple 5 star guest.

Turo is a great service to rent from however, I had a bad experience with one of its host-Best Deals with renting his 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. This person was very rude, impatience and very unprofessional to say the least. He cancelled my reservation without my approval simply because I could not locate the instructions that he provided as to how to upload some documents. Mind you, this was my very first time utilizing Turo and this particular host. I simply stated to him that if I wasn't able to locate what he was referencing then I may have to cancel. I didn't say I wanted to cancel. I said I may have to. When I asked for a supervisor, he stated I was threatening him, simply because I asked for a supervisor. He was rude hence reason I asked for supervisor. I will NEVER recommend renting from this host again. Turo customer service as able to read all the messages on the account-thank God and they rebooked me another vehicle at the same cost. Even though the other vehicle was much more, Turo made me whole by taking care of the difference for my inconvenience. Be aware of this host-Best Deals.
I originally booked this trip with a young man named Errin. I was very happy with how he let me know everything up front and it was a very easy process to reserve the car for my trip. Unfortunately there was some kind of vandalism to his vehicle from a client, and he had to cancel my trip and I got a full refund. While I highly recommend Errin, I was not so fortunate with the person who I ended up booking with, Shyarah L. I should have backed out immediately and chose someone else as I felt like a criminal the whole time during the booking process. I already authenticated myself with the turo app but she requested my ID again which I was not comfortable with. Also there was a process with the code to get into the car which I had to ask her for she did not provide that. And while my trip started at 8 a.m. she did not provide me with the exact location of the car at a Target parking lot until the next morning and for some reason she claimed there was some sort of website glitch so I ended up taking my own car on the trip because it was after 8:00 a.m. and the company still charged me the fee for same day cancellation. I provided the notes on the website and the times where we exchanged dialogue and it was after 8:00 a.m. before her information was uploaded so I should have gotten a full refund. When you do everything last minute there are always problems, and I got the penalty. Also I spoke with a representative from turo that same weekend and they assured me that I would get a full refund so they lied. She should have provided all the details I needed to get into the vehicle 24 hours in advance! Beware of Shyarah.

It was a rental service
I had an extremely unsettling experience my 1st time using Turo & will never attempt to use this service again. The couple I tried to book a car with advertised "unlimited miles." Long story short, when they discovered I was renting a car to go from SC to Ohio, they attempted to charge me more. I simply told them no thanks, suggested they should not false advertise & wished them well. My message was that simple. They proceed to send me LONG messages, telling me no need to be rude, that it's their car & they can do what they want. My response was "I'm a businesswoman & simply providing feedback." That was it. They continued to send me messages attacking me, telling me to save my "criticism," "keep my emotions out of it & my snide little comment." I was dumbfounded w/ their aggressiveness. I had to ask them to "please stop sending me messages." Well they didn't. They proceed to send me ANOTHER message after that, making smart, nasty comments & I could see they were still typing yet ANOTHER message, so I literally had to close my Turo account to get them to stop. I looked at their ad on Turo after I deleted my acct and they had changed their "unlimited mileage" to charge for miles over 600. They did not handle the constructive feedback well & will ultimately result in Turo losing quality customers going forward. Sorry about this long post, but the experience really was unsettling. (**This was a white 2016 bmw 3 series, under the name Patrick, near Greenville, SC. He has 5 star reviews, but these were only from the ppl who rented the car locally since 5/2021. You cannot leave a review of the host if they decline you, as in my situation, even though I was approved by Turo. He knew once he declined me that I could not leave a review on his page, which is why he proceeded to harass me after that. It was truly unbelievable & I sent screenshots of the exchange to Turo Customer Service). I would have booked another car through someone else on Turo. However, this experience was so unsettling, that I will go through a rental car company from now on.
Was able to rent a nicer car on my last vacation and at a significant discount to what I would have paid Avis. Would rent again!
They take a on of fees and if theres any way they can not cover you they will. Especially if you drive a truck
HIRER BEWARE they will try to take you for as much as they can.
I hired a car in the US for 1 week. The host was really great and the car was wonderful.
Near the end of the trip I reversed into a stone wall at a very slow speed which caused some very small scratches. I went through the proper steps and was fully co-operative throughout.
Within 1 day of my report Turo took $500 from my account as a repair deposit, and then a couple of days later told me that the cost of the repairs would be $1,300 which I thought was over the top but I didn't contest it. When they notified me of the full amount they offered the choice of payment through a payment plan, and I immediately responded to say I was interested in this option, but was then told the time had lapsed and that the final payment was already processed and had left my account. I was very annoyed that the payment had been processed without notice as my trip in the US was costly and at the time I would have much preferred paying the costs over time. I contacted Turo but after several emails back and forth I had no choice but to accept the situation.
Almost a month passed and I receive another notification of ANOTHER CHARGE of over $1,000 (began with an additional charge of $1600+ but somehow mysteriously dropped to almost $1100 after I sent them a strongly worded email) for "hidden damage" for "damages that were identified when doing a tear-down of the vehicle to guarantee the safety of it".
The damage was minimal, a couple of superficial scrapes, and repairs did not require a tear down and I am absolutely certain (because of the speed I was travelling, the lack of dents etc ;) that there were no "hidden damages".
This company is brazenly out to take as much of your hard earned money as they can, and I would strongly suggest hiring ANYWHERE else.
Do not book with Turo. They simply will lie about refunding your trip and reimbursing the fees. Do NOT BOOK

TURO
Upon arriving at the Portland, Maine airport, the Turo team served us an enormous "SH*T SANDWICH" that ended up costing us $1,600US. They had canceled our two week reservation while we were in the air - a reservation that we had made 2 1/2 months earlier because of the well-known shortage of rental cars and accommodations in Portland during the fall foliage season. Turo's irresponsible action left us high and dry - with absolutely zero rental cars available in the Portland area. Without a car, we could not get to our reserved accommodations a hundred miles away in Belfast, and the only room available in Portland was at the Hilton at the rate of $295/night. The two week vacation that we had planned and reserved 2 1/2 months ago had just turned to "SH*T"!
The stated excuse for the cancellation was that there was a problem with a tire. But in our fruitless search for a rental car we were told by an airport official and several car rental agents that Turo was engaged in an illegal scheme of staging rental cars a the airport parking lots with an attached combination lock box containing the keys. We were told that, when the lock boxes were discovered, the airport authorities would have the car towed off the lot. Several people at the airport suggested that the car we reserved had been towed, and that the tire excuse was BS. I should note that the Turo team stepped in to"address/solved our problem" by offering us a three day rental somewhere in Maine that would begin in 12 days - the day before our scheduled flight back to Denver.
The next day, our landlady in Belfast rescued us by arranging local transportation to Belfast ($200) and locating a Enterprise rental car in Belfast (at $1,900: $1,100 more that the prepaid Turo reservation). So, by spending an extra $1,600 and wasting one day of our vacation, we were able to recover from Turo's thoughtless and irresponsible actions.
Great place to rent cars, peer to peer. Easy to use, and there are many selections for vehicles.
