I've used Upwork for around 3-4 years now to make extra money on the side. For me, I also use it as a way to get paid to learn. I taught myself the basics of Python programming 4-5 years ago and then used Upwork to keep building those skills while making money. It took me a few years but I now have 1 reliable client who I do work for several times a year(and probably more to come) and I am able to reliably find other projects to work on. You have to be willing to do some hard work and get your profile built up with some good reviews. Do a project or two for cheap at first to build up the good ratings and work from there.

As a freelancing marketplace Upwork is the best. I am feeling glad for being a member of Upwork. Upwork is the biggest freelancing marketplace in the world. I believe the best thing about the platform as a freelancer is the safety net of having a third party secure the funds and payment from prospective clients. Also has easy process to get instant payment from clients. Upwork is providing various great opportunities. I really appreciate the support team of Upwork. I hope they will continue this great process in the future as well.

There is not any security at Elance, no control over freelancers. I was stolen 500$ by a scam freelancer. They use automatic PayPal payments, disappear in a few days and delete the profile. You can start a dispute but there's nothing to do. PayPal wil request a refund to Elance, the will reject it and they will tell you to dispute with the "disappeared" freelancer. DON'T work with this company, they should be shut down.

Throughout my time on the site, I have had nothing but success. The platform brings together skilled workers such as myself and clients in order to facilitate business. It is quick and easy to get started, and if issues do arise, which is rare, Upwork's policies can get it sorted out. I have recommended people I know to get started on it.

Many years ago I had used oDesk to find freelance website developers. I had some success and was general satisfied. Then Upwork purchased Odesk and it all changed. The biggest change was in the trustworthiness of their freelancers and the way they made it impossible to work with their freelancers to manage websites without risking getting ripped off by the freelancers. Upwork is the best freelance platform. The experience with Upwork is far better than others. It connects me with various clients around the world who demand the services that I provide. I can easily manage my personal and professional life since it allows me to work from home.

The system is very poor, I worked with it for more than 3 months, concluded both a small contract and a long-term one. One fine day, I decided to work. It says to me that your account is blocked, I wrote to the tech support, for 26 days they decided how to send them the documents to me, I still sent them what they asked, all the documents were correct and valid, but the account was deleted without any reasons and explanations. So I do not advise you to work with them very system!

Upwork is my favorite place to find and be found by clients. It is where I grew my career as a freelancer and helped me earn good money. There are several well-paying clients in Upwork that you cannot find anywhere else. I will be forever grateful for Upwork.

Upwork is the best opportunity for online business with best practices, wide clients' data base and strong payments protection system. I am happy to recommend Upwork to all companies, agencies and freelancers.

I was forced to use UpWork do to its acquisition of Elance. I loved how Elance worked. It needed improvements like any platform, but they made changes and had a clean user interface. They were fair to their buyers and from a freelancer standpoint, the fees were ok. I've heard a bit high at times.

However, upwork is awful. It's hard to work efficiently in their system. Finding qualified freelancers is hard. Management of a project is difficult because of their workflow.

They do not respond to feedback or support requests. I have had unacknowledged support requests that have gone on for months.

Now they are charging "buyers" a fee to use their service, and they raised the prices on freelancers.

I have a few jobs left on there because of the loop in from Elance to upwork, but I will not be keeping my hiring freelancer services on their platform. Especially, with the addition of fees.

Upwork gives me a chance to work on a wide variety of projects with an equally wide variety of clients. I think it's a great way to try out a number of gigs to find out what suits you best. Highly recommended…

If you're looking for the best platform to showcase and take your freelancing talents to, Upwork is the place. I've only been in the platform for quite awhile but it really helped me find the best of the best in terms of client opportunities and experiences. I look forward to more years in Upwork and will definitely stick with the service they provide me and my client. Truly the best indeed.

Upwork was oke, not great but oke, but now they are charging high monthly fees.

They also take 20% from freelancers, and now freelancers also have to pay to apply for you job. We won't be using upwork anymore for hiring. They were not even that good.

Now Upwork is trying to charge $50 per month so you can get access to any of your billing reports. What?

The reports themselves are not even good.

They lost a client here for sure! Not sure who came up with this idea, for 50 dollars a month! Come on! Atleast start at 3.99 or something like that.

I sed to like Upwork at the time odesk. Now they have become sooooo crazy expensive and bad that almost ever job I have put there was problematic.
Their review system does not work as it is easy to manipulate.

Upwork is the best place to lose money and not get nothing in return, but trouble and waist of time.

This are theives and blood sucker they took all my money from my client and despite of opening 100 requests they marked all request as solved, though no one ever reply to my any ticket whenever i called their support they knew nothing and said their higher support is very busy they will respond to me ASAP. But that lucky time never came till date all my money is gone.

I've started a month ago with this website and at the beginning I was really excited about it and thought they had a really good platform.

But the truth is that they are not on the freelancer side... After two bad experiences with clients who I wrote for and who decided to stop the contract because it was not good enough for them and where I had to work for $0, Upwork decided to close my account, accusing me to agree to receive money outside of their system.

I never did such a thing. This client Lydia Ross from NLPH Seminars, told me to buy ebooks on Amazon, and that she will repay me for it. So far, I've seen nothing.
I also asked her to compensate the 2 days I worked on her project and where she refused to pay me the whole amount. So we agreed on $30, same here nothing so far.

You're not the only freelancer platform Upwork and acting this way is not gonna bring you luck, trust me...

This site claims to have a very secure environment and also prides itself on Trust and Safety. Do not be fooled! The site has no trust or safety or even protects your privacy or personal information. Don't hire via this website as it's a con.

I've found great clients and projects on Upwork. I have also learned additional skills through varied projects and a great way for freelancers to showcase themselves and earn money. The payment system also works very well and is secure.

There is NO LOGIC of paying 100$ as a fee for a total 500$ project. Also, they charge another 2.75% processing fee from your client when client pay you. Upwork totally sucks.

The platform helped me to be able to offer my services to everyone.
For a long time it was my main source of income.
Certain things like problems as customers are normal and I believe that it is not within reach of the platform to solve this since it is something human.
Follow the rules, understand the platform, be a good professional and be successful as a freelancer on that platform

I have had a great time working on Upworks. The job postings are always coming in. Long term jobs and 1 time only jobs. I am so glad that I found this site. No purchase of anything to get started. They do take a fee for every job they connect a client and freelancer.

You're probably gonna think I work at upwork or something, but I'm not. I hired a few people on here, some did a great job and got paid. Others didn't meet expectations, so I cancelled the work contract and got a refund. Fair and square.
