I started auditioning with Voices.com about 4 years ago, and since then I have grown my fledgling interest in VO into a full time job. I will say it takes a LOT of work. I have to do many auditions to book enough work to sustain me, but I love being able to work for myself whenever I want. And I have clients that return to me for repeat jobs so it just keeps growing. I know that they take more commission than is usually acceptable here in the states, but to me it is the cost of doing business in this new VO landscape where much auditioning and work can be done from home, and more and more work is going non-union. I really do understand how people who have been doing VO for a long time are unhappy with the way things are now. However, to me it's a no-brainer: for a small yearly fee (seriously I make it back with one job!), I have access to auditions and jobs and clients that I just wouldn't have otherwise. So for my part, I am happy to keep doing business with them for as long as I can. And their customer service is fantastic. Truly great. Obviously it would be better if they took a more industry-acceptable commission, like 10-15%. However, I am a very happy customer and I recommend them to people all the time.
