Reviewers complaining about World Market most frequently mention customer service, order online, and business days problems. World Market ranks 709th among Furniture sites.
I do not question the negative experiences that many other consumers have reported, but my own recent experience was very different from theirs. I ordered very hard to find Boulder Canyon potato chips with only sea salt added and I received them promptly. The bags were intact and the chips were fresh (with a "Best if used by date" more than three months from the date I received the package. World Market provided a valid tracking number so that I could track the shipment. All in all, I found the company to be reliable and trustworthy.
I applied for a World Market credit card because I was planning on purchasing large ticket items and the incentive they were offering at time of application was 20% off my first order. The good news-when I applied they emailed me the 20% off code to use. When I finally received my credit card in the mail the incentive expired. I called to see if World Market would make good on it and they refused. I won't be purchasing from World Market and am cancelling their credit card.
I lik it do much here. The workers is always nice and say hi when I go. The best candies and sweets and everything else is good here to. I recommend this store.
I went to buy some things in store, and happened to find some clearance items that I thought I could use. When o got to the register, one item marked 9.99 rang up as $50, and she fixed it to 13.50. Other items rang up weird prices and she acted like I was trying to pull one over on her. I found them like that, and just thought I could use them. I then tried using a coupon that I received two days ago and definitely never used, but it said it was used apparently. I gave up at that point, and rang everything up. I then noticed that she had in fact over charged me even after I thought she fixed it, so I went back through after picking up an online order. I got a different, much nicer cashier, and she said they could honor the coupon and fix the price on the thing that got over charged. We had to ring a whole new order to get the coupon applied which I figured would be okay. When she gave me my refund receipt, I didn't realize until I got home that she had just give me back the original receipt, so I don't even know if she actually refunded me. It was such a waste of time, and these are errors within the company, so I don't know why I got the runaround. I emailed the company to verify that a refund went through but haven't heard back. I'll be waiting to see if it comes through, but at this point, I kinda feel like they just double charged me… and especially seeing all the reviews, it seems this is company-wide and common. I'll happily update my review if this issue gets fixed, but at this point, I would definitely say to please don't shop at world market. Definitely go spend twice as much somewhere else because that's what you'll be paying here, and maybe you'll get treated better than gum on someone's shoe.
Tip for consumers:
That the prices marked aren’t what you get charged, and they send you invalid coupons.
World market steals the designs of small artists. If you buy there because you like the design you're paying the people who hurt the ones that actually made the design you like.
I ordered a table online on cyber Monday. The first delivery the box was opened and the table had deep scratched on the surface. They took it back. Today is December 28. Finally got a different table delivered. This one the box was totally in pieces and wrapped together with saran wrapping. One leg has deep dings AND IT IS MISSING TWO LEGGS AND HARDWARE. The styrofoam was completed shredded in the box and flew all over my living room. I called customer service. They said it will take at least 5 days for me to receive an email whether they will send me the missing parts or pick up the table. In the mean time I am stuck with pieces of a table in my dining room. THIS COMPANY IS AWEFUL!
This place double billed me. Then when I called they blamed my bank. Called my bank they said yep you got double billed and when they reverse the 2nd payment you will get it. Call them back and they told me I would get my money in 6 days. Its already been 5 days since I ordered. WATCH YOUR BANK ACCOUNT FOR DOUBLE BILLING!
I went in there the other day. Yipee 20% almost everything. Not exclusions apply.
I was told i could not use the coupon. I put in my phone number and i did not get any rewards for spending $120?
I placed an order online on December 10th, thinking this would be plenty of time to receive the order before Christmas (standard shipping was 3-8 business days). I realized on December 18th I had never received a shipping confirmation email, so I contacted customer service (via email, I was unable to get through to a human through calling). I received a response back the next day that my order was out of stock and so it was cancelled. But I was never notified of the cancellation, so now I am out of luck with giving this gift in time for Christmas.
DO NOT ORDER ONLINE FROM WORLD MARKET. Very poor customer service.
I've been a long-time World Market shopper. I like the furniture, and the stores are easy to shop in, but frankly, I'm so disappointed in a recent online experience that I am re-thinking my loyalty. I ordered bar stools, World Market charged my card, and sent a confirmation number. Two days later, I was informed World Market cancelled my order; the stools were - in fact - out of stock when I went to purchase (even though the website did not reflect that), and there is no insight as to when the item (if ever) would be restocked, PLUS the website is down, PLUS the customer service representative gave me a laundry list of what I COULD PERSONALLY DO to ensure that their website is accurate the next time I want to order something online. Please tell me how this is customer service? I asked if there was ANYONE who could help me track down these infuriating bar stools and the answer is "No one - so sorry. Is there anything else I can help you with today?" I guess "help" is a relative term these days... I feel like in this situation, there must be accountability on the part of World Market. Accidents happen, sure, but if you can't help track down these stools, at least have someone offer (dare I say) "help" for me to order other similar stools and/or a provide an incentive for a loyal patron who's spent thousands of dollars in your store to continue doing so... #livid
I would World Market a Zero but that's not an option.
We ordered 4 chairs for $500/each from World Market. When they arrived all 4 boxes were heavily damaged. There were multiple holes and rips in each box. There were even footprints on top of one of the boxes.
We called World Market customer service and they asked us to open the boxes and examine the furniture before we sent it back. We did that and all 4 chairs had damage. We took pictures of everything before we opened the boxes and of the damage to the chairs,
We then called World Market customer support back. They would not issue a credit for 4-5 days after FedEx came to pick them up and they had been returned to them. They told us FedEx would come on a certain day sometime between 8:00am - 6:00pm.
Mutliple problems with that - no one can take off an entire day to wait for FedEx to pick up their merchandise. And FedEx would not even pick them up when they saw the damage to the boxes.
We have filed a Fraud claim with our bank against World Market.
Never under any circumstances will I buy anything from World Market again. If you are thinking you want to buy something from the World Market website, DO NOT DO IT!

We ordered Chairs. All were damaged. We are still fighting them to get our money back.
I love stopping in here periodically to see what's new! They have the cutest home decor, unique kids toys and fun foods to try!
So, I ordered a daybed from World Market online ($750) it arrived promptly. When I unpacked the item I realized it was badly damaged. After several frustrating phone calls - sending photographs etc of the damage - they decided I could return it (thanks so much!) We agreed I'd bring it back to the store (50 miles away) that weekend, since there was no way I could re-pack it for pick up. Unfortunately I had e pretty tragic family situation that weekend and I did not end up going - it never even crossed my mind. The following Wednesday I get a call from a driver en route to my house to pick it up. I was surprised but relieved that I didn't have to make the trip to return it. But, customer service had been so incredibly inept up to this point that I took pictures of the truck and the driver loading the truck. 6 Weeks later and I still hadn't received a refund, so I call to see what's up. After moving up the chain and having to explain the situation over and over I send the pictures to the senior supervisor - her response is that they have no record of the pick up and the pictures are not their truck or their subcontractor and I should report the theft to the local police! At this point I want to report World Market to the police. How would a thief know to come pick up a broken daybed I bought at World Market? Anyway, the senior supervisor, who insisted she had no authority to make refunds and wouldn't tell me who could, told me we could not proceed until I filed a police report -so I did. Stay tuned and NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM WORLD MARKET.
Tip for consumers:
The level of incompetence at World Market should prompt legal action.
Products used:
none.
As others have noted, the online half of World Market is impossibly terrible. In-store is fine.
Gift certificates here are best avoided because they will not let you use gift certificates in store, and they also won't let you use gift certificates online for in-store pickup. If you have a gift certificate, you must use it online for shipped items.
Problems with that:
They charge shipping. A good portion of your gift certificate will be wasted on that.
They charge sales tax on tax-ineligible items. (If they've done this to you, complain to your state attorney general's office. They're committing fraud.)
Their shipping service is incompetent.
Their customer service is incompetent, lazy, indifferent, or some combination of the three. As one example, they tell you they'll contact you within 24 hours, and their responses are timed as late as they can get away with, basically to 23 hours and 59 minutes.
It's now 12/14, and I placed an order with World Market on 12/6. So far, I received one package that was supposed to contain three items I purchased, but only contained two. According to World Market's own records, that package hasn't even been picked up by FedEx yet. They're supposed to send the third item, but I'm prepared never to see it and especially not to get it by 12/24.
One other item shipped promptly, but now it looks like FedEx lost it. I'm unlikely to bother complaining to World Market since they don't care.
Two other items are on back order, and I only found out when I complained that it hadn't shipped after a week. (They will not tell you this unprompted.) I'm unlikely to get that by 12/24 as well. Their website still has both available for purchase, so they don't bother keeping track of their stock online. They'll take your money and ship what you ordered when they feel like it.
Horrendous customer service! I placed an online order recently, which did not get delivered to the correct address. I contacted World Market customer support to request remediation of the problem. The response I received said they could not help me. First, they said I needed to file a case with FedEx. Second, World Market says that if FedEx cannot find my package, I have to file a stolen package report with the local police. Are you f*(#$%^ kidding me? So, I go to file my FedEx case only to find that World Market never provided the FedEx tracking number in any of the emails pertaining to my order. I could track the package delivery by clicking a Track button, but never did it show me the actual tracking number. So, I had to call World Market to get my tracking number. I was moderately hopeful when on the phone that they might offer to assist, but no such luck. I asked to speak with a manager and was put on hold for about 15 minutes. The same lousy guy came back on the phone and said all the phone lines were busy and would I like a call back. I agreed, because, you know, I don't have all the time in the world to be further disappointed by World Market customer support. Then, the guy says I'll get a call back in 24-48 hours! What? Who does that. Other company call backs always occur within the hour. Meanwhile, I'm surely not holding my breath that the call back will ever occur. Nor will I EVER shop at World Market again. Never, ever again. I mean the merchandise quality is pretty $#*! anyway, and certainly doesn't justify this level of hassle to correct a problem. Next time, I'll stick with Amazon for some cheap wall decor.

Just don't do it! You'll regret it.
Bought a sofa from them to replace the last sofa I bought from them, takes weeks to deliver (came 7 days AFTER the first date they gave me for delivery). Finally called me to arrange delivery from 1-5 on a Friday, I arrange to take the time off from work.
They were also supposed to call me a half hour before arriving (it's 25 minutes from my office to my home).
I get a call at 11:30 - THEY'RE THERE! I arrange for someone else to take delivery and head home. When I get home the delivery people are gone, and for a sofa THAT HAS 4 PARTS (sofa, right arm, left arm, and center support peg) I ONLY GET 2 PARTS (sofa, left arm). I call the delivery people back - it's not on the truck. I call World Market back, oh, we'll ship you replacement parts in 5 business days.
5 business days PLUS go by, haven't a heard a word from them. So I email - this is the response I get:
"We apologize for any delay regarding your replacement parts. We are still waiting to confirm whether or not they are available."
I told them to pick up their $#*!, get it out of my house, and refund my money.
I placed an order online. It was supposed to arrive in about 10 days. By day 15, it's still hadn't arrived and so I went online to see what was going on. On the website, I tried to find tracking information. There was none. It looked as if it had never shipped.
I contacted customer service via email. I was told that the item was on back order. No one had ever contacted me to tell me that my order wouldn't arrive on time and in fact it was unknown when it would be available. So I then I try to cancel the order.
Since then, I've been given the runaround for over a week- so far. They tell me that they actually do have it, so I ask when I'll get it. They dodge the question. I ask again. Then they said it is actually still on backorder!
Now I'm trying to cancel again. This time I called. The person I spoke with tells me, they do have it because it has a tracking number. I'm trying to explain the problem but I feel like they just aren't getting it.
I'm told that because it has a tracking number they can't cancel it. They can only put a note on it to be rerouted and once that happens it can be cancelled and I will be refunded.
But I know that tracking number is attached to NOTHING! Sure enough, I go to check my order on their website and there is no shipping information.
I have absolutely no confidence that I will get my refund smoothly. I am certain I will have to call again.
This company is NOT TO BE TRUSTED.
This is the longest I've ever waited on hold with any company in my 35 years on this planet. Absolutely ridiculous. No excuse.
Worst custoner service ever. Argued with me on phone and only discounts for in store pick up. No store where I live. Horrible service. The worst!
Don't buy from World Market. I purchased this cabinet on November 3,2017 and it arrived with the side panels damaged. Customer service is a joke. I am still fighting over a full refund. The very heavy package arrived by Fed Ex and it was not by the team. The package is so heavy but FedEx never has a two man delivery. I reported the package and was told sorry, we will send you replacement parts. I hadn't heard anything for a couple of weeks and I noticed the notes were not on my account. I called and another person, Vicky A, said she would discount the item 10% and send the parts to me. Again, no parts arrived, so I emailed the customer support and I got this ridiculous offer. The parts are no longer available, even though you can still buy the cabinet online, but if I wish to keep the defective item, I can have an additional 25% off. Now, why would I keep a cabinet I can't use? The customer service is a joke. They brush you off and hope you go away. DO NOT buy this or any furniture online from World Market. Both Justin M and Vicky A were not very helpful in the customer service section. They're polite but they brush you off. I don't know what Laura will do but I am not instilled with confidence either. This is a nightmare. I have this worthless cabinet in my house and I now have to move the very heavy package to the front of my house for FedEx to pick up, and hope that World Market will reimburse me. I had to give the rating on their website of 1 star because it wouldn't take the review. I can't use it at all. I bought one several months ago at the store, no problem but online is a problem. I have never had any issues online furniture, but World Market is the worst.
Tip for consumers:
Just don't buy at this place anymore. I am so ticked off with their lack of customer service.
ON-LINE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE - Dec. 6th I purchased 3 stockings on-line. Dec. 11th I received an email stating the arrival of my merchandise by Dec. 15th. Nothing ever arrived! Dec. 18th I phoned customer service. The stockings were no where to be found. Two of the stockings were set to reship on that date. The other stocking was unavailable and I was asked to select another, less liked, stocking so at least I would get 3. I was asked to pay in advance for the stocking and overnight shipping, $35.71 for one stocking! I was told I would be credited for this and the original stocking that was not available. Dec. 20th I received the alternative stocking and not the 2 others that were supposed to be reshipped. I didn't receive a credit yet. I called again on the 20th. In fact, no credit had been given for that $35.71 purchase, only the credit for the original stocking purchase of $7.53 that was no longer available. The other 2 stockings were again, never shipped to me. Today is 12/21. I received an email now that all 3 stockings that I originally ordered on 12/6, in plenty of time to get them by Christmas Eve, are all on back order. I have 1 stocking that was a substitute, no refund, none of the stockings that I want, and I have spent hours of effort and time trying to resolve this matter! This is by far the worst on-line shopping experience that I have ever had with any store!!!
We do not receive USPS at our home. We choose this because some carriers will bring packages to your front door, others will leave it sitting at the curb. This has happened to us as well as friends of ours in the same city. We do not even have a mail box at the curb. I cannot be the only person in the United States that does not receive mail at home. I thought when World Market meant Fed-Ex delivery, they meant it to be to your front door. I have often ordered from them and this has always been the case. Last week, they had a free-shipping special which I took advantage of. I thought, as usual, it would be delivered by Fed-Ex. Fed-Ex brought it to the local Post Office and the carrier on the route yesterday was good enough to bring it to my front door. Let me reiterate, we are not a mail stop for them. He could have turned it back to Fed-Ex and he could have scolded me (some do). World Market will not allow you to put a PO Box on your order. If I don't know how a product is being shipped, I use both the street and PO box with the zip that goes with the PO box. UPS and Fed-Ex know where I live, so they don't need the street zip. World Market's response was that I should upgrade to 2nd day, which from Virginia (their warehouse) probably is quite expensive. I do not know why they are so inflexible on their shipping policies. If Fed-Ex is already transferring smaller packages to the USPS, I do not understand what the problem is. They offer lots of shopper rewards and perks, but the perks are no longer worth the trouble. I think this is a store-front retailer that wants to be an on-line presence, but doesn't know how to do it well. In reality, some of their items are not even available in stores, so if they want to sell on-line, they need to get with the program.
Don't order from this store. They promise they accept refunds, but they won't give you one. Terrible experience!
Hello,
I just got off the phone with one of your customer service agents who suggested that "OBTAIN A POLICE REPORT FOR A STOLEN ITEM THAT WASN'T STOLEN." While I appreciate the advice to LIE to the police, I will have to pass on that.
We order a set of chairs, which is an order of 2, however we received one. I know we received one because I helped get it off the truck. My home surveillance footage can verify this. However, generally a set of two, mean 2 items. I was under the assumption that the other one may have been lagging in its delivery, but apparently not as it never arrived. Customer chat recommended that we file a police report, then said we can take our singular chair to a store and they will refund it if we don't want to. So then I went to the store as to not have to lie to the police, they said they cant do anything with an online order and a single chair. So then I called to talk to a person online again, and they recommended that I "not lie", But that I need to call the police, have them come to my residence, and get a police report for the nothing that happened. I could show them the video of nothing being stolen?
What the hell is that… Thanks guys.
Had my debit card stolen and the company refuses to cancle the order and won't help me at all what a joke good to see that they help criminals
