I stopped using wunderground a few years ago. Intellicast used to be a usable alternative until wunderground ruined it too. Hopefully they don't have plans to trash https://forecast.weather.gov too.
Weather Underground used to be my go-to weather. Now it's just awful. One of the best features, the Wundermap, no longer works at all. The NEXRAD radar no longer shows active storm tracks, cloud height, hail and other individual storm stats -- another of the most important features in severe weather. The whole format of the main page has changed; what was easy to use is now confusing and has been FUBAR'ed. Oh yeah, and the "Favorites" are messed up too. When I go to the Weather Undergound page I cannot get it to default to the only full and accurate weather station near me, it keeps changing. GRRRRRR.
Is TWC trying to intentionally turn wunderground into a crap weather site in hopes that we'll turn to TWC instead? If so, it's not working. I'm so mad about this that I'm boycotting TWC and am getting my weather from other sources.
Weather Underground used to be THE site for useful weather information. Now that The Weather Channel has taken it over it has become useless (as in, not functional at all). All TWC had to do is keep it the same and they would have been connected to the best radar for tracking severe weather on the internet. Win! Instead, they have attached it to their brand and sucked the life out of it. The Weather Underground radar, on multiple occasions, allowed me to track storms and prepare accordingly. On one occasion, because of the timely, accurate radar available on Weather Underground, we chose to close our office and leave the area ahead of a storm that was bearing down on us. The storm that follow included a tornado that destoyed businesses, homes and took lives, within 2 miles of where we were.
Keeping tabs using Weather Underground is not an option anymore. For at least the last year the website has been worthless. My hope is that somebody with the passion and know-how that the curators of the original Weather Underground group had, will create a replacement for the void that TWC has created by neglecting this once great resource.
I noticed it last summer when TWC bought them. First Wundermap stopped working and no longer even shows hurricane tracks. Then local radar started to say "Site Down". Then I was told it was my browser, nope. I tried an Iphone, Android tablet, Win7 desktop and Ubuntu desktop, and every browser I could find. It's their website. Now they seemed to have improved the local radar from crashing but if you tilt the radar the time changed. If you zoom the radar the time changes. You can see the latest in full screen then zoom and it jumps back two or three images. I can't look at the cross sections of thunderstorms anymore.
The Tropical page is now worthless, no invests, terrible if even there spaghetti models.
I've been a paid member since Sept 1997 and that's ending. Up until a year ago I didn't even need other weather sites, now I don't even use them. Sad, very sad. The only thing worth reading now is Cat 6 blog.
Weather Underground under the control of Dr Jeff Masters was the best of the best, light years better than any other site. Even Bob Henson doesn't review in Cat 6 as good as Masters.
Once the go to all you needed site is now garbage. So sad. And I've complained and they ignore it. They don't care. TWC now rules. Which went bad about 2000 or so. Now TWC is entertainment not weather. And they ruined WU. So so sad.
This is terrible. Their interactive weather map is glitchy and never looks right. Now I have to use my phone to check radar on storm radar or myradar.
I can no longer get the PWS across the street from me, I get a station 8 miles away. I can not see the full week forecast and the wundermap at the same time, there is to much clutter.
Wunderground used to be my go-to site. Redesign sucks, and as others have said, is very inconvenient to not be able to see my weather at one glance and have to change settings every time.
They totally ruined Weather Underground Map! Now they are adding ads at the top cutting off a 1/4 of the map view, REALLY! Screw Wundermap I will find something else!
The app is no longer useful as many have mentioned. It consistently underperforms in many areas. I think the logic is to kill the app so people migrate to weather channel.
Wunderground went from being the best weather site on the internet to complete garbage. Weather.com destroyed Wunderground, it's very sad. The site is pretty much complete junk now.
Got a Ambient W2990A PWS for Christmas, it took me about 20 minutes to set it up, got it working on WU in about a day. Two weeks later I bought a webcam to go along with it. Finally figured out how to add it to WU, however looks like everything is working, I can see it associated with my PWS and access the pictures but it doesen't show on wundermap. I have sent two messages to them with NO response at all. Today I go to the Wundermap and my PWS is not showing up!
WTH?
The "Classic Site" was great... then, somebody decided to change the design, cut off any rational customer service (even to paying customers), and not care about accuracy.
Where I live (rural California) temperatures are consistently five or more degrees higher than shown by wunderground.com in summer (I have my own exterior temperature sensor).
The site is broken: For one example: The RSS feed (which they refuse to attend to) is either feed :// rss. Wunderground. Com/auto/rss_full/CA/Placerville. Xml? Units=english OR
Feed :// rss. Wunderground. Com/auto/rss_full/CA/Placerville. Xml, and it changes arbitrarily, rendering the feed useless. Support's response: RSS isn't an important service for us (i. E., go away, pesky customer!).
I use them because (if you pay) there're no ads, and they do have an (often broken) RSS feed. For that they get 1 star.
I do wish The Weather Channel owners of wunderground (acquired in 2012) would give a damn... but, apparently they're just letting the site decay to eliminate a competitor, I'd guess.
Ever since IBM took over Weather Underground ("An IBM Business" is on the newest version of their app) their forecasts are good for $hit and my professional full weather station (made by AcuRite - $290) which reports rainfall, temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, wind speeds and directions, Ozone and a years worth of trends for all those, has been MISREPORTED on the Weather Underground App. Immediate Temps, etc are off +/- as much as 20% in real time on their app and this was NOT the case BEFORE IBM took over. Right now, WU is forecasting for ZIP code ******* a high of only 86f while NOAA and the US Weather and EVERYONE ELSE is forecasting a high today of 98f! This is BS! Consistently Forecasts are OFF by 3 to 8 degrees along with real-time reporting. I may take my weather station (KCAMISSI109) off the WU network and move it to a RESPONSIBLE Weather Reporting Network in very short order. WU SUCKS! Get your $hit together!
Website looked good. Paid the $10 for upgraded access. Attempted to customize homepage as advertised. Nothing worked properly. I assumed it was something I was doing wrong. However, based on reviews it appears that I'm not alone. Attempting to select Favorites creates duplicates. Attempting to delete duplicates creates more duplicates. Attempting to reorder Favorites results in reversion to previous order. Further research indicates TWC purchased Wunderground in 2012. IBM purchased the TWC data network in 2016 for a weather forecasting to business venture named "Deep Thunder". Obviously, they have no interest in maintaining the public interface as the Wunderground problems have been widely documented for some time and TWC/IBM clearly has the expertise to fix it. OK, that's fine. My problem is that they scammed me for $10 via PayPal for a product that is clearly defective. Don't bother complaining to TWC or IBM. They clearly have no interest and don't return calls or emails. The $10 is nothing. The blatant fraud pisses me off.
This website is VERY kickass. 3-D Radar, Near Rea ltime Lightning tracking, NEXRAD Radar, High Quality Imaging, Historical Tornado History, the list goes on and on. Aside from the fact the website is named after an Domestic Terrorist Organization, then this site is pretty goddamn great.
Bring back Intellicast! When you open it to either "today", "hourly" or the "10 day" forecast, it ftakes forever to load all the information. Sooooo frustrating!
I went back to the weather channel!
I, like most here used Intellicast on a daily basis especially the Interactive radar and the 10 day graphical forecast and I'm highly POed about all of this. What I have done to get a little bit of Intellicast functionality back is establish separate desktop icons for WU radar in my area and also an icon for the city where I live which displays the 10 day forecast. When I need to look at the 10 day forecast I click the icon and up pops the 10 day forecast just like Intellicast had (they were actually using the WU 10 day forecast in their app). You have to set up the 10 day forecast graphics the way you want and save them but it works. The radar defaults to some weird map other than the satellite view but it can be selected as well as the radar you can setup the layers to show personal weather stations in the area that are clickable. As far as other Intelliast features like surface analysis maps etc. those might have to be under a separate icon also. I'm hoping this will help ease the pain of losing Intellicast
When I click on a webcam thumbnail, nothing happens anymore. Left click, right click, double click. Nothing. Why did you kill wundermap? Just because you can? Or what? Amazing.
Coronavirus map doesn't work. If it is not going to work, then get rid of it. I really liked the convenience of it before. Now when you check it nothing else work until you get out of wondermap
When the Weather Channel bought WeatherUnderground, they first thing they did was to start removing functionality. So I moved to WUStorm thatbstill had all the old data. Then the Weather Channel derogated Storm and forced users to switch to StormRadar which again lost all its useful functionality.
The Weather Channel keeps buying and ruining my favorite weather apps. Its like the weather channel doesnt actually want people to know what the weather is, so they keep buying up competitors and instead of adopting it they eliminate the functionality that made people want them.
Answer: This was deliberate calculated sabotage for some reason
Answer: It won't come back. IBM bought The Weather Company to get at the data so they could package and sell that to their corporate customers using their "Watson" cloud services. Individuals mean nothing. That they've managed to so thoroughly destroy what was once the premiere weather site says a lot about the incompetence behind their core "Watson" products. You might want to tell IBM that.
Answer: They hired a bunch of idiots to manage and design their new site. This included removing features and gutting the radar.
Answer: Yes. We have many employees who come to work each day desperate to appear productive and relevant. We ask them to destroy functional lean websites with bloated nonsense. Meanwhile, our executives require more money so we like to devastate communicative websites with ad-infested infestations of pus-riddled idiocy. Thanks for asking!
Answer: Pointless giving feedback/complaints. I tried this and got an automated reply telling me how much better it was!
Answer: Your local Tv station meteorologist.
