I've been using the Avast free edition since maybe 2002 -03(so a decade now). Back then I was looking for a version that would run on Windows 98,2000, and i think XP (it was many different computers. I tried both AVG and Avast. AVG had a hard time with windows 98, while Avast worked smoothly across all of them. I have since ran Avast on all of my computers and suggest it to family if they are in need of an antivirus. None of the computers in my home have had any virus for about a decade now. We do web surf and download a lot, so Avast has definitely had its work cut out. I will continue using this software as long as its free.
I had used Avast Software for several years, but then the price of their product went up substantially and they kept trying to sell me new products. When I called customer service, the guy was a pain in the you know what by trying to question why I was cancelling my subscription and why their products are so much better than others. Newsflash to their customer service: THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT AND CUSTOMER SHOULD DO WHAT THE CUSTOMER REQUESTS WITH NO QUESTIONS ASKED! Plain and simple! The person I spoke with finally got my message after I repeated it numerous times while talking over him and refunded/cancelled my annual subscription. I highly suggest to not ever start with a subscription to this company for any product, even if you think it is the best.

Tip for consumers:
Try Avast free if curious, but just be cautious and don't be sucked into the never ending popups which entice you to buy other products.

I just received (via email) a notice that Avast is going to ding my bank account for a "renewal" of software I haven't used in a couple of years. I have called their customer support number and have been holding for almost an hour. I tend to think that this is company policy.
They charged me in advance following year's subscription via Paypal, without sending any email notification, so i can cancel it. When i noticed the charge the same day, i complained, they tried to persuade me to maintain the subscription, without apologizing. I questioned also the transaction on Paypal. Where they immediately put it on dispute. Avast support, finally agreed to refund me. Paypal informed me that the case was closed in my favor. After ten days, the amount was not refunded. I complained again. This time my bank was the problem and of course i contacted with them and they were not the creating any problem! It has been a month, i have contacted them one more time and the customer support was rude! They told me, the problem was Paypal, it was in dispute, which of course is not true! The y asked me to wait again. The worst company i have encountered. The customer support should also be trained to speak polite.Phrases like " Are you done?", are totally inappropriate. Or " Send me the screenshot of Paypal, translated, of you want get your money back "...Unbelievable behavior! They do not deserve a star..

Just purchased the top-of-the-line software package. Much more comprehensive than the 'free' download, which is now apparently much more limited than it was previously. So far I find this equal to, if not superior to AVG. A close friend had a few terrible viruses embedded in his 32. Exe files, and AVG identified them but could not remove them. Avast did remove them, and found a few other issues that AVG had not even identified. This product has a long history of very good reviews as well.
I paid for Avast's premium antivirus and total protection package. It stopped working on my computer. They tried to tell me my computer was the problem, which is bull$#*!, I've never had problems with any other systems. They then took $80 out of my bank account, which I never agreed to, for extra tech support (and they didn't fix the problem!) Avast is great, until you actually need them for something.
I am a Network Admin and I fix or install computers for friends and family in my spare time. I have been fixing computers and networks since 1998. I find Avast to be the the best anti-virus program, especially since I first started using it when I received a 14 moth free trial. I believe they still offer anti-virus software at no cost for one year. I also purchased their Internet security program for a very low fee. It is a great program. I have used many other programs i. E. Bull guard, Norton, McAfee. However Avast seems to be the best especially since the first 14 months were no charge. Once I purchased the anti-virus software and the Internet security program for home use it came with a licence for three computers.
Why would you ever want any program to delete the entire contents of ANY folder?! I am so mad at them - they said I checked a box wrong.
This should NEVER happen, and there should always be a way to recover - who would use antivirus to delete perfectly good files? I can do that myself - but now I'm screwed.
Beware, this is such terrible practice and WHY!?!?!? So mad
Tip for consumers:
don't use this, unless you want to randomly lose files. all your files.

Avast seems to have stopped sending refunds as advertised. Been using Avast for over 10 years. Basic free product is great. When you try one of their upgrades or supplemental products and don't like it, you're supposed to be able to get a refund if you cancel within 30 days. DO NOT BELIEVE IT! Been waiting 14 days for the refund that was supposed to come in 5 to 7 days. Unacceptable and annoying. Again, BEWARE of Avast and their empty promises.
Tip for consumers:
They don't send refunds as advertised and/or promised. DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!

Wasn't a bad software but, the issue is that you'll use the free program and without ANY warning whatsoever, you get charged over $100 for their service advertised as free. No warning, no call, no voice mail, no e-mail to catch it before they charge you. They just pounce once that money pops up and they pounce quick. That example of unprofessional crap is why I got rid of it.
Ridiculous refund policy. I requested refund which was accepted via chat. I was informed that will receive the money within 7 days. When I haven't received the money within this period I checked my email and realised that they sent the link to accept their terms and conditions before receiving the money. Of course at that time the link has expired so I have to do it all over again. Luckily I am still within cancellation period otherwise I would loose the money
Well, all the brew-ha-ha a bout viruses and malware has become a moot point. Viruses and malware will out, if you know what i mean. Every company with an ace in the game wants to make their point. As far and long as i can see, this discussion is never-ending and moot. We're all captive to these now, corporate gamers in the greater scheme of things.
Be very careful when you buy Avast products, do not agree on automatic renewal. They have a strict policy. I got charged on my Credit Card for the renewal. I no longer own the computer where I installed Avast products and they refuse to credit the charge.
Is a decent anti-virus but my computer still got a virus that hides all my folders and transform it into a shortcut, a paid the basic one, but I totally regret it. I had to paid for a guy to clean my computer.
The program isn't a virus but it acts like one and uses all your CPU, disk, ram and doesn't know what a virus is it called roblox steam and chrome a virus. If you have it installed and you want to uninstall it I suggest you don't because it broke and corrupted my hard-drive so i bought a new ssd.
Tip for consumers:
try a antivirus that's not real-time it slows down your computer alot just scan the file when you download it
Zero is too much for Avast. I used it for years, then I didn't have computer for awhile, was charged, asked for refund, it was in April. They refunded, in May charged, asked for refund, they refunded, they charged me again in May, never refunded, it was 9 months ago. There emails since June, I asking for refund, many emails from them and from me, each time they reviewand say i should receive refund shortly. In November they replied that 30 days time frame for refund passed. Again phone calls, emails, same story, they say that escalated my case and refund should be received shortly. Now is December 26th...

Avast is malware. It may remove other malware on your computer but Avast itself is also malware. It sends your personal data out to remote servers even when privacy settings are selected. It is popular because it is free. It is free because obtaining your data is profitable to them. If you install this software with a default installation, every website you visit is streamed to Avast. Along with data from the content of the file scan of your computer. If you install this software and choose not to send out your data in the preferences, it stills sends your data out. This is how they operate.
I am not sure how the "Program" or option became in my system. I did not ask for the popups to warn me that I was in danger...It seems the presence of the Avast software itself seems to be what it is warning me about!
I searched the damm thing and saw the reviews here and had to add my 2 cents. The main objection is it seems to be a push product that will not go away and it is posing as Google? Or Microsoft or part of my package I already have except I need to buy into it.
What is real anymore? It seems I myself could be AI and for all you know I am a compettor of Avast and at least a Troll.
This invasion bothers me, I am worried by this spammy thing
Tip for consumers:
I did not buy this product, my whole point is the spammy way it is being forced/pushed into my computer! How can I want to buy this? My experience is directly about the product without even buying it.
What's your favorite letter? ARRRRRR! Avast! Antivirus is really free. If you want the bells and whistles, it's cheap. Are you tired of Symantec and McAfee ignoring your plight and giving you nothing but software BLOAT?
Dude! Get it FREE at Avast!
Never got the Cleanup software I paid for since it was sent to the wrong email address! Plus the customer service (?) rep hung up on me. Hope they go bust!
Terrible and unprofessional customer support. I had to politely beg for a refund for a charge that was automatically renewed without my authorization. The entire request lasted 30 minutes while the customer support agent named Kennedy, attempted to exhaust me with alternatives and delayed responding for nearly 5 minutes. The agent tried to exhaust me by asking several times why I wanted a refund and tried to only offer a 75% partial refund. It was quite obvious their intentions were to frustrate me and delay the entire process. This agent also made underlying taunting & mocking comments of my Asian heritage last name -- which was quite obvious and extremely unprofessional. It was difficult to maintain my composure but I continued to say thank you and please to my requests despite the constant disrespect that I had received.
I was really happy with Avast programs and features but I will never ever do business with Avast ever again because of this. I have never written a consumer affairs review either or a 1 star review. Ever. So I hope this can speak volumes to my experience. You should not have to go through this experience for canceling or requesting for a refund especially if it is within a reasonable time frame. In my case, immediately after they charged me.

Had 3pc's covered with AVAST and when I got a pop up to renew assumed it was to cover same - 3pc's. But when the order came through it was only for 1pc. Contacted Customer Service and gave them all the info, asked them if they could cancel the renewal for 1pc and I could then purchase for 3pc. Takes a long time for them to respond... they then didn't answer my question and asked me for information I had already given them. Next email from them told me I had renewed through Digital River but if my receipt showed paid to Nexway I had renewed through them (Avast) - which I had, they then said if this was the case to supply details I had already given them TWICE so they could sort it out. 3 days later and nothing from them and my PC's are now unprotected. I'm going elsewhere and won't use them again.
I downloaded this to stop the malware on my computer and to what I hoped would make it run faster. After I purchased this software my laptop locked me out and this software corrupted my computer. DO NOT PURCHASE this software. Now I got to go pay a expert with computers just to get my computer to work again.

You used to be able to buy a package, and it covered everything, and now they separate everything, and then charge you for each thing, so it no longer is cost effective unless you have multiple computers. Last straw, you used to get phone version for free when you paid for everything else, and now I have to pay $6 a year (yes, I know that is minor, but by next year, they wil charge $20 a year, for sure. I have been with this company since their early days on the net, when it was free for residential customers, but are now to big for their britches, and charge far to much, and are always finding new ways of nickel and diming you. I am sad to have to put forth this update. I wrote to them that it was getting out of control, but unlike the old AVAST, they had no time to write me back. So sad to see. No way to bundle packages to save money anymore, either. I will have to start looking at different companies after 20 years with this one company. You just know there is one fat cat making a buttload of money while I now go more broke every year.
Tip for consumers:
Once you buy this, it is hard to remove from your computer, so if you buy, expect to keep until you change to a new system. just my opinion, but I have seen other opinions here say they had issues removing it. Backup your system first, and be prepared to buy a new computer or hard drive, possibly.
Was a user of the FREE full version for 5 years (used to be free for all residential users for the full version!), then had to upgrade to reasonably priced full version. Have had the program stop me dead before a Trojan Horse tried to open. Not had a successful virus get through in the 6 years of paid use (or the 5 of unpaid). IMHO, MUCH better than all of the retail ones I have ever tried. I used this as a free backup when I had free McAfee the 1st 2 yrs that came with my computer, Avast caught so many things that McAfee missed. The free version was comprehensive, at one point, you only paid if you were a business. I had the and free version for years, until they notified that they would not cover everything they had in the past, and gave a date. The paid version was super inexpensive the first couple of years, but is still today cheaper than all of the other systems out there, and so much better as far as I am concerned, yet it STILL stays cheaper than others & STILL is the best system out there as far as I am concerned. I run the tests by the other sites every so often, and they all SAY they have found something (of course), but with research, find that these are errors on my computer (caused by me, or registry errors that are not "urgent". AVAST has added various services over the years, and I have tried them n and off (alo of them) over time, and they ARE good, but they do make the service expensive if you buy all of the extras. I do wish they had an all inclusive price and would stop trying to sell me stuff that is not included, that is my only bad comment, and that is minor. The free mobile phone version is well worth downloading! I will keep Avast for the foreseeable future! I remember all of the issues I have had with the mayor brands that either come free with my computer, or have a free 'trial'. Avast wins hands down! Is easy to use, too.
Tip for consumers:
Have been a user for over 10 years now. Kicks butt compared to McAfee, and all of the "free for one year" services that come with computers. If you have one of these free for a year (or 2) ones, I suggest that you download the free version of the Avast software as well to see what it catches that the preinstalled software does not, that was the proof I needed to never go back!
