on 7/15/16It is a PR platform that enables scammers to appear legitimate or verified. Freelancer doesn't care. They get a sizeable commission no matter if the posting is legitimate or not. Example: A fake ebook listing. Needs author to write 50000 words for US$ 2000. Unwitting freelancer bids and is 'awarded project' with message saying hurry up and accept. Once accepted, freelancer takes 'project fee' while you get tied up in their help callcenter trying to recoup not only the fee but potentially the fake employer gleaned from you using their platform. This site will be in the news soon. Trust me.
I was working on Elance for a long time, good clients and good pay. Freelancer is awful, they take your fee before you do any work and you have to fight to get it back. Don't use them - I'm going to try guru.com. Good luck!
Yes, freelancer.com is a scam site, please never trust on these scammers..
Just go to upwork.com. Ca see work computer screenshots there. Much better
In my opinion, there are SCAMMERS TOO. Take a look at my case, they took the money already from my account via PayPal. Then I complained and they told me that the job was fake, and my money is not refundable. WHY IF THE JOB IS FAKE, IS MY MONEY NOT REFUNDABLE. The issue here is not about their policies, the issue is that they are so greedy for money they put up a system to get their money from somewhere no matter if the job is fake or real. Why shouldn't people wonder if FREELANCERS themselves set up these fake jobs. People are really complaining but then the company boasts of MILLIONS. They are WICKED people, who care about themselves. The $250 I lost to them cost my team and I a lot of pain... but FREELANCER doesn't care. So many people are complaining, yet they set up some flimsy excuse to SAFE FACE. Not this year FREELANCER. Your unfair policies and fancy English cannot save you.
Stay Away from them please, involve yourself in local freelance jobs in your city or area. It's better than a company that doesn't CARE
No, it is not but their some of the policies are making them to sit on the client's money which they hold in the name of disputes and they dont give more informaton, we lost $620 to freelancer.com. After 6 months, they said their client had issues in the credit card hence we have revoked the payment
If you use them then use only pay per hour. As far as I know that is OK but under no circumstances bid for a fixed price job. If you're 'accepted' they immediately take 10% of the value of that job from your Paypal account. I am surprised Paypal allows them to do this as Paypal had to do a lot of work behind the scenes to get my money back.
This site is a breeding ground for scammers and criminals. With all the scams and bad reviews you'd think by now that they would have done something to protect their users. In particular, freelancers who are often scammed out of hours of work, never to see a penny. Even if you verify that the employer has verified their payment method and use their time tracking app you are still vulnerable to scams. What they don't tell you is that the employer and freelancer can deactivate an account or a project without notice. Plain and simple, their system facilitates scammers and as they do nothing to prevent these scams they are complicit in fraud and deception.
I wouldn't say it's a scam. Just a bad company with a flawed model of doing business. I didn't get what I wanted or paid for. Bad freelancer that was rude and thought they deserved money for really bad subpar work. But Freelancer did not refund my money until I went through a lengthy process and back and for with the freelancer. It was not pleasant. In the end there are MUCH better services like Upwork or Fiverr that you can use. Why give them money?
Some freelancers are not qualified and not able to do the job whereas, others are okay, it depends on what you need to do? But the majority of them are not up to the level
The website places extra charges on you for nothing and you wont be able to reach the customer service!
Just stay away from it
If you get a crappy developer you have no protection. They have the same people that use to work for Paypal now working with Freelancer.com when I tried to get my money back freelancer.com made up a fake website saying that was the website I got built... So yes they are scammers
JUST DON'T. I found a $2300+ misc charge from them on my corporate card. Also, because they are in Australia, VISA charges a foreign transaction fee of 2%. So, I got a hold of them and they said no problem, it will be reversed. It took 3+ weeks to get the transaction reversed and then it was for 2100. They tried to claim numerous reasons as to why it happened. 8 weeks after the fiasco started, I still don't have the balance or the 65 foreign transaction fee. AVOID USING THEM. Also, I urge everyone to who has had an issue with them, to contact the consumer protection agency or the US AG to get them to refund all the money that they have scammed people in this manner and to bar them from doing business in the US.
I concur with many of the opinions and views on this matter. I would be very careful about engaging in any project unless you fully understand the implications and realize the fact that there is very little protection. Freelancer don't give an airborne fornification as long they get their cut of fees. Save yourself a lot of time and problems and please avoid.
No. It is not. I had a bad experience once that I was not able to withdraw money for about 2 weeks. I posted a bad review about freelancer.com here in this site. But after that problem got solved, I never had any such trouble. I came back here to edit my review because I found freelancer.com to be A. W. E. S. O. M. E
No krista its not a scam. A site which is giving you money what you earn with out any investment. Giving you free premium member ship.
But here reality is like freelancer supports their employers about 80% support to employers. And rest of 5% to their policies. And rest of 15% support goes to freelancers.
My message to you is that beware of being tricked by the employers and always kept proof when you are in projects.
No, the site is as legit as eBay. People having bad experiences is because issues with users or even with the site that might not be perfect. But the site is not setted up for scaming people! You do have to be carefull with employers/freelacers you work with since the site is not responding for them.
