From what I've read on several different sites, 925 means sterling silver.

Hello Robin! The purity of silver lands on a numeric scale, or rating system, based on 1,000. Sterling is an alloy with 925 parts silver and 75 parts copper. A stamp, called a quality mark, will tell you how many parts of silver make up the ring. In the U.S., the marking will typically read 925,. 925 or S925!
