Question:

I would like to know how a $5,000 item can have a start bid of $1? how would that strategy get me top dollar for my expensive items?

Answer:

You won't get top dollar. In fact, you'll lose $9 on the item because MaxSold will charge you a $10 listing fee. And they DO NOT have the thousands of bidders they claim. In the auction of my household, there were only 70 people who even LOOKED at the site. About a dozen bid. A solid silver chandelier sold for $75. A $12,000 dining set sold for $40. Post a free ad on Craiglist for bargain prices and give the stuff away if it doesn't sell - you'll be way ahead.

Question:

What fee do you charge for your service

Answer:

Too much. $10 per item, and a minimum of $1500 as I recall. You'll be lucky to break even after they give you things away for $1 each, charge you $10 listing fee, and then you have to hire people to clean up the mess they leave behind (several thousand for my home, both to haul away the things they didn't sell at all plus a cleaning service to reclean the house that was just cleaned by the same service.)

Question:

I am very concerned about giving this business all my credit card information. i have no idea how secure this site is or if my credit card will be used without my permission. why can i not pay with cash when i pick up the lot(s)?

Answer:

Please see maxsold.com/creditcard - You can pay on site as if you have sold on Craigslist you are familiar with people saying they will pay and they don't show up, or negotiate on-site.

Question:

How safe is my credit card info

Answer:

Hi Dave, please see http://www.maxsold.com/CreditCard Why we ask for your credit card if it costs nothing to register and bid on MaxSold? Your bid is a commitment to purchase the lot if you win the auction and your credit card will be charged accordingly right after the auction ends. To protect the integrity of your auction from another bidder running up prices only to renege later on payment, we require all bidders to provide their credit card details up front. With MaxSold you know that only real bidders are participating and the auction is fair. What exactly are you charged? Winning bids are charged to the credit card on file right AFTER each auction ends, along with 10% buyers premium and the applicable retail sales tax for your region. Whats the deal with authorization? The first time you bid at any of our auctions, your card will be pre-authorized for $1.00. However, it is only a bank authorization for validation, not a charge, and it is usually removed in about a week by your bank.

Question:

Is your credit card protected

Answer:

We don't have access to your credit card numbers as it's stored with the merchant account which is controlled by the bank, so it's secure.
