How does a seasoned Turker get their account suspended for NO reason and with NO warning?
with. . . nearly 4 years of experience on the Mechanical Turk platform -
A 99.9939% approval rating on over 300,000 submitted tasks.
4 total blocks by Requesters in three years - 3 of those retaliation for posting poor reviews flagging under-compensated HITs on Turkopticon. The other a mistake that was removed.
I can only say, Turkers need to beware. If I were to review this site prior to this egregious act perpetrated against my financial stability, I would have indicated that an individual with above-average keyboard skills, a good reader, with a sincere ambition to submit quality data, could almost make a modest living using the Turk platform. With a few supplements I have been able to do that for nearly 4 years.
Problem? When your income gets yanked out from under you like a cheap rug without any reason, nor any warning.
That is what happened to this Turker at 1:00PM yesterday afternoon. Besides that, the suspended account status has locked down nearly $150 I had banked ready to transfer. That sort of meets the definition of theft.
I can only hope this is some type of a clerical glitch in their system, but if not, be expecting another rather unflattering review here soon.
