on 7/29/21The company is not a scam (from my experience). Problem is: They're an intermediary and if your state doesn't fill the order promptly or accurately, VitalChek doesn't care. It got your money and they want nothing more to do with you. In my case, I ordered a Death Certificate that I know exists. VitalChek did promptly place the order. But the jurisdiction came back saying the Death Certificate didn't exist. I wanted to resubmit my request and simply was looking for any suggestions on how to make the request successful. Their attitude: We got your money, we forwarded your request, we want nothing more to do with you.
Yes, VitalChek is legitimate & recommended by the State of Louisiana for ordering Birth Certificates IF you want to pay online with a credit card. (Probably other documents also.) Louisiana Vital Records (government) does not accept credit card payments online so they recommend VitalChek which does accept credit cards online. Remember that VitalChek is only the middleman; they accept payment, send your information to the correct location and provide general updates. In the case of Birth Certificates & similar documents from Louisiana (& probably other states) it is the governmental agency which is actually searching for, finding & shipping the document. If there is a delay it is likely caused by the governmental agency, not VitalChek. If VitalChek's estimated delivery time has been exceeded, ask VitalChek for a link where you can query the governmental agency directly as to the reason for the delay--still does not mean the agency will respond.
I ordered a 1943 Louisiana birth certificate through VitalChek using a credit card. VitalCheck estimated delivery time using higher cost UPS Air to be "on average" 10-15 business days, excluding weekends & holidays when government usually does not work. I had it in hand in 18 business days. The other estimate ordering directly from the government was 8-10 weeks & I would have to send them a check or money order, no credit cards.
