The process for getting a Canadian work permit varies based on the type of work permit the person is applying for. For instance, an international student studying in Canada will be offered with part-time work along with their study-permit authorization.
Most of the work permit applications need a valid job offer in Canada from a Canadian employer, which is supported by a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). Candidates who apply through LMIA-exempt or are exempt from requiring a work permit should know the documentation required to ensure their entry to Canada.

There are two different pathways for obtaining a Canadian work permit.
• A closed work permit
• An open work permit
Closed work permits are linked with specific employers, which means that the foreign national is issued with a closed work permit. They need to work with the same employer at the same location until they change their work permit.
