“Re-home a pet to another home.”

When contacting someone about rehoming a pet, ask for a Youtube link on videos about the pet you want. I adopted out two cats on this site. Videos really provide a lot more info. Shelters in Houston, Texas area are usually full of cats, kittens, dogs and puppies needing homes. Good luck! AG 02/07/2021

This adopt a pet needs to do something different every time that you have a pet that's for you you go to to see it and by the time you want it it's already adopted it's happened with three little dogs also when you call the place in Fort Lauderdale they never pick up the phone ever my best bet for future people just go to Broward go to Broward and you can adopt a pet for free there it cost like 20 bucks they pick up the phone and you can go there in person

Don't waste your time!... They will never respond back to you!... Adopt a Pet and also Petfinder are all the same. Total SCAMMERS! Go to your local Shelter for a adoption!. ALL they look for are DONATIONS. And post fake pictures!... If you want to take a step further... contact their advertisers posted on their website and complain!. If they get enough complaints, maybe they will pull themselves away from these SCAMMERS! It's a shame they don; t realize how many broken hearts they are causing!... AND THEIR MUST BE A WAY TO GET THEM OFF THE INTERNET!

I wish I had read these horrible reviews before I got my beautiful girl. They said she was a pedigree shepherd. SHE ISN'T. They said she was microchipped. SHE ISN'T. They said she was in Rhode Island. She was in Kentucky. They said she was heartworm negative. SHE ISN'T. So now, instead of Christmas gifts, I get vet bills. We are gong to treat her, we love her. But this organization is awful. THEY LIE. My poor baby was transported to Connecticut from Kentucky, right after being spay... THAT DAY. Awful. Had to charge $400.00 dollars to someone in Kentucky, and then pay $200.00 to the van transport... CASH ONLY. Shady. Very shady. They should be paying me. RUN AWAY.

This is the worst site for finding a pet. First, people who advertise their pets do not answer your applications and this site does absolutely nothing about it. They say they have no way to? How irresponsible is that? So you are left hanging for weeks not knowing anything. They use the excuse that the people looking for homes for pets "have difficulties" and to give them time to respond. Everyone is having difficulties of one sort or another and this is no logic for not responding to applications. I thought the whole objective here was to find homes for the animals. They give you a phone number to call yet all they do is tell you to email them and then you do and they just give you generic answers which are always basically that they cannot do anything about helping you find a pet or dealing with an application you submitted. There are many shelters whose pets wind up on this site as well so you are better off contacting the shelter on your own instead of going through this website. All of the negative reviews do not seem to matter to them either and I can't understand why someone isn't shutting them down. Save yourself the frustration and pain and avoid using them.

A very clunky website. Almost impossible to actually see what the settings generate. The ever present free or pay option seems to override search.
Again, a waste of time

UNRELIABLE. POOR SUPPORT.
(virtually non-existent as far as I can tell)
I lost an opportunity because the site failed to work when I needed it.
I posted a pet profile in detail and finally got an application from someone who wanted this cat. Somehow Adopt A Pet simple lost my pet profile and the applicant adopted somewhere else. For me, Adopt A Pet is a good idea and would be a great asset if it were RELIABLE but ended up a disappointing waste of time. I could not quickly reactivate the pet profile and lost a rare opportunity.

STOP THIS NOW. REHOME IS THE WRONG MOVE. I have adopted from adoptapet website in the past, but this is horrible. Owners will buy animals and then send them on their way when they're done with them. The first dog I came across "we had a baby so we don't want the dog" YEP this is what REHOME IS DOING. STOP THIS NOW.

** DO NOT ADOPT FROM "REHOME" - AND they want YOU to pay the PRIVATE OWNER A FEE? NO WAY ** HOW IRRESPONSIBLE IS THAT!

Sites like this help facilitate a "bait & switch" from local pet rescues. Like many of you, I have spent a lot of time completing adoption applications only to be told the pet is no longer available by the time it is approved. Each rescue has 20-30+ application questions, which are not standardized. Unfortunately, my references, local veterinarian, and I waste a lot of time with each application submitted.

If you get through to a pet rescue to ask about the status of your application and/or availability, you tend to get excuses like - already adopted, short staffed, all volunteer helpers, not enough resources, plenty of other pets available, popular vs. unpopular breeds, etc... But, in many situations, you had already selected a specific pet to adopt. These excuses only exacerbate the frustration and indignation of the adoption process.

There should be an industry standard to communicate whether a pet is (1) available, (2) under consideration or adoption is in progress, and (3) adopted. Several of you also suggested a rating system indicating whether the pet rescue center meets approved credentialing. I. e. Verify the 501 (c) (3) status

The pet rescue industry has many problems. Remember, many of these organizations are 501 (c) (3) exempt entities. They must follow State and Federal laws to stay in business. Report bad actors to the State Attorneys General and Better Business Bureau.

Adopted a cat and feel in love but he got sick in 2 months with FIP and died. 2 vets said he had it when we got him and when you get a resume cat make sure you get blood work done as these animals continually come with this terrible TIP. I went through Donnas Kitchen and lost my pet and $600 adoption fee plus $1500 in vet fees. IF YOU ADOPT WITH THESE SITES GET BLOOD WORK DONE RIGHT AWAY

These phonies, hiding,
stating dogs/ cats/ pets are Being put for adoption, these furry babies are being dumped at shelters, even kill shelters, the amish will breed them without regards, and throw away the ones they can't sell and adoptapet.com posts pictures of those babies being sold, they're irresponsible, will never show you the breeding place, the mom and dad, you meet in a parking lot somewhere! They wouldn't meet with me at the breeders, I recorded conversations, they're terrible and adopt a pet doesn't care or they'd never partake in this!
And if you truly love furry babies, stay away from these people, I'm writing a letter to our congressman in Ohio to change these pitiful laws that do not protect these babies! The amish, they're going to hell before any of us for how they abuse " animals" they're the real animals, going to church as often as you do, Won't save you, don't waste your time, furry babies are the angels here! Look at the pictures, they're all from amish country, New Philadelphia in OH, always the same person holding many different puppies and they won't allow us to meet anyone, it's always a parking lot exchange!
Sincerely. Monica.

Our 501c3 rescue group went thru a very public event which resulted in our favor in early 2016. In the year 2021 an adopter who was unemployed applied for a Persian cat who was under the age of three. She did not like our adoption donation fee and googled the charity. Up popped all the bad press from 2015. What did she do? She reported us to Adopt-A-Pet and we were banned for life from listing our pets for adoption. When our attorney contacted their attorney, a very terse reply from the company was "we have no intentions of reinstating... group" Seems you are guilty if you are charged and the final outcome was not taken into consideration. Adopt-A-Pet has a nonconfrontational policy and can drop you in a hot minute without notice. AND, they can ban you for life for any reason they see fit but not tell you the reason. Seems guilty as charged is the motto of Adopt-A-Pet. We will be banning the other Mars corporation companies as I am sure we are not banned from using the VCA hospitals and Banfield Vet clinics. Soooo, they will take our money but not let us list our pets.

Avoid CVA hospitals and Banfield Pet

This organization is more interested in speaking down to people and critiquing their life decisions than they are about finding homes for pets. Disgraceful.

AAP SITE IS A HORRIBLE JOKE.
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO OVER-SITE BY OWNERS TO INSURE THE DOGS BE LISTED ON SITE ARE NOT PUPPY MILL DOGS OR FROM BACK YARD BREEDERS, OR WORSE.
NO ONE CHECKS TO SEE IF ANY OF THESE ANIMALS ARE FROM RESCUES OR OWNERS LOOKING TO REHOME A PET?
ITS UNFORTUNATELY JUST ANOTHER AVENUE FOR FACELESS NAMELESS PEOPLE TO SELL ANIMALS TO LINE THEIR POCKETS- AND THE OWNERS OF THIS SITE COULDN'T CARE LESS.

MORE SHAMEFUL SICKENING DISREGARD FOR INNOCENT DEFENSELESS ANIMALS!

PLEASE DO NOT GET ANIMALS ANYWHERE ONLINE - this site craigslist pet afs pey stores bogus rescues etc

Adoptapet.com, like Petfinder.com is more like Craigslist for pet adoption than anything else. You are not adopting from the site, you are adopting from the listing organization. They just provide the marketplace to help you find listings and to communicate with the pet advertiser.

Adopt A Pet supposedly vettes the organizations that list on the site, but this seems limited to a Vet Reference and they do not require proof of 501(c)(3) status or that documentation to prove you have required permits to operate a shelter or rescue in order to list on their site. There standards are not transparent and there are a lot of bad actors and wackos to be found.

The only mechanism they provide for complaining about an organization is via email and that information is way too hard to find. This lets a lot of bad actors and wackadoodles stay in business and make pet adoption far more frustrating than it should be.

PetFinder (and all the pet adoptions sites) really need to provided a rating and review system like eBay, This would quickly identify the organizations to avoid and save people heartache and frustration.

They should also require a link to the adoption requirements and applications on the site.

If they were to do these two things, I believe the majority of the complaints about pet adoption could be avoided.

Their Pomona address is a P. O. Box, They encourage you to "leave an email" which they NEVER reply to. Their voice mail is a joke as the VM mailbox has been "FULL" for two years. When they email you, your answer is returned "undeliverable". I accepted the adoption from an owner looking to "rehome" a dog and THOUGHT that all the buttons had been pressed to facilitate adoption fees, vaccine and veterinarian history to be forwarded so as to register the dog in Los Angeles county... NOTHING. Contacted owner of dog who insisted that AdoptAPet had assured her that "the deal was closed". IF NO PAPERWORK THE DOG WILL HAVE TO BE REVACCINATED... WHAT PROOF OF SPAYING? ANIMAL WAS ADVERTISED AS "HOUSE TRAINED AND GOOD WITH CHILDREN AND OTHER DOGS... NOT HOUSE TRAINED, TRAINED TO PEE PAD, BARKS, ILL MANNERED, HAVING TO UNTRAIN DOG THAT THINKS OKAY TO BUSINESS IN HOUSE... I LOVE HER SO I'LL BITE THE BULLET BUT ADOPT A PET IS ONLY INTERESTED IN YOUR DONATIONS.

I turned to adopt a pet.com as a last resort after humane societies, no kill shelters and pet rescues all fell through on their promises to help me place an abandoned cat who had a litter of 4 kittens.

The site is easy to use, I set up a profile for each kitten and mama cat with current photos. I was honest in my description of each one's personality and temperament.

Once I had applications come in, I vetted each one, made sure they had a veterinarian they knew and trusted, good home, clean, etc. Then I listened for signs that they were aware of the need for and knowledge of how to kitten proof a home.

I answered questions but did not volunteer a ton of information because I wanted to give the potential adopter room to express their thoughts and desires so I could better ascertain what type of pet parent they would be.

I asked for references of people who would vouch for them as being excellent pet parents. Some applicants offered this without my asking.

I listened to see what type of homelife they described to get a good idea of what the kittens would be introduced to.

I set up a video chat so they could see them in action and also asked to come see their home to ensure they kittens were going to a safe and well cared for home.

I believe this site is what you make it. Could there be scams? Yes! There are ways to safe guard against them. Be smart and vigilant. Do not pay an individual for a pet and never pay anything without seeing them first. Ask for a video meet and greet. Once you meet in person make sure it is initially in a public space and do not go check a private home if you have any misgivings.

This bonded pair, brother and sister, will now have a home and be together for life. <3

Tip for consumers:
Be honest. Be smart. Take your time vetting potential adopters/ adoptees. If it feels off, do not proceed.

Rehome by adoptapet is absolutely horrible and needs a serious overhaul. First of all, it shouldn't take three business days to get a listing reviewed and approved. That is ridiculous. Second, they don't let the actual person posting the pet decide what the adoption fee amount should be, THEY decide what it should be and the amounts they post for "private" individual adoptions are insanely high. Who is going to pay $200 for a dog that is listed as a "private" adoption (ie. The dog is not being adopted out by some rescue). This makes it SOOOOOOOOOO much harder to get a dog adopted out. In fact, very close to impossible on this site (unless it's a dog at a rescue). They also don't state anywhere in the post that THEY decide the fee, not the person posting and that the person posting the animal doesn't get any of that fee. It's also impossible to update certain information on that site, such as email address, phone number or zip code. There is nowhere to update this information. If someone decides to make edits to the listing they made, then that has to go through a review process also so there goes another three days waiting for a listing to be "approved" and posted.
If this site actually wanted to help dogs, they would let the person making the post decide the adoption fee, even if that person wasn't going to get any of that fee. A $200 adoption fee for a private adoption is just ridiculous and they've made it so most people won't adopt through this site because the fees are so ridiculously high. Stay away from this site.
