I have bought from Amoskeag Auction for many years. They have very nice, polite, friendly, knowledgeable employees. What is not so nice is the owner, Jason. He is Mister Arrogance personified. His honesty and integrity are dubious at best. I won about 10 items at one auction and he refused to let me take them. He claimed my bid wasn't high enough to let me have the items. He also went through mental gymnastics in claiming at the same time that his auctions are NOT reserve auctions. Well, if you refuse to let me have items where I am the high bidder, then that is, by definition, a reserve auction, even if you aren't honest enough to label it as such. After going around and around with him on that, he said he would only let me have items where my bid is at least 60% of the low bid estimate. So, the next auction, I made sure all my bids were at least 70% of the low bid estimate. That auction, he refused to let me have even more items; about 15. I called and emailed him about it many times over the next couple months, but he always dodged my calls and ignored my vmails and emails.
So, even though I have come to really detest this guy and his arrogance, cheapness, and lack of integrity, I have continued to buy (fewer) items at his auctions. In November of 2023, I bought several items, including one NFA item that, AFTER the auction had closed, he disclosed that there was something wrong with the NFA paperwork with it, and I'd have to wait while they redid the paperwork. Since the item turned out to be untransferable at the time of sale, I asked his employees to just refund the amount I had paid for it, and he could list it again at the next auction, when it was ready to transfer. That is how any honest reputable auctioneer would handle it. But not Jason; he called me up and went into a long rant about how it "wasn't his fault" and told me that I was stuck waiting for them to clear the paperwork. He's so cheap, he also refused to pay a few dollars to ship it to me when it did finally become transferable. And this is over a lousy $300 item, with a customer who has spent well over 6 figures with his company.
Item description (see pic) clearly states "Fully Transferable on BATFE Form 3 or 4" - 6 months later, it's still not transferable.
I will no longer do business with Amoskeag Auction, and I urge others to do the same. There are a lot of auction companies out there, and they have far more honesty and integrity than Jason and Amoskeag Auction.
