Scott P. I cannot believe that every single person on this review page has something negative to say about archives.com. The only conclusion I can come up with is that the millions who have actually HAD a great experience with the site is just simply not saying so. This is now the second year I will be using the resource, and I just love what I've accomplished. I use it often and have been doing extensive research into 16 different lineages. I have been able to (with much patience) trace most of my ancestors back for 300 or more years. I'm sorry to hear how some have lost out. I love using this site. The only thing I have to complain about is that they do not have extensive background in continental Europe. Otherwise, I've really enjoyed the results.
This is a scam, they will give you 7 days, then auto charge your card, you have to call them to cancel no way to do it from your site, I was on the phone for a hour, to get a human. I will never use this again. They NOT REFUND YOU! I canceled in Feb over the phone, and then got charged again in March had to call again.
I ordered a certified divorce certificate for my grandma in September of 2019, it is almost February of 2020 and it never came. After the 60 days or 8 weeks was up I called every two weeks and the lady would give excuses say oh I see, it'll be in in about two weeks!
Or something was wrong with the system. Or I can't give you a refund because we just use your money yesterday! Do NOT GET ANYTHING FROM THIS WEBSITE!
Beware I accessed this website on a 7day free trial. Within a couple of hours it was obvious the site wasn't going to be any help. I used the EXACT surname of the person I was searching for, I stated it was EXACT yet they brought me up 6 finds none with the Same Surname. I tried to see if they had details of someone I had every detail for. It brought up a find of the name date a volume & page number (for what Im not Sure} of the same information I had given them. I cancelled the 7th day as no help received. They then debited my card I have asked for an explanation, I had forwarded them the confirmation of account cancellation. They confirmed cancellation and the ref Number. After another 5 emails they Still haven't explained why they charged my card and now asking for proof I have cancelled my account. An absolute SCAM. I had to give a 1 star or it wont post
Beware the site is very tricky & before you know it your charged fee's you didn't want & they sure wont give any refund. They bait you with possible information that turns out to be useless a great waste of time. Only reason I give them a 1 Star is because Negative Star is not available BUYER BEWARE.
THEY PROVIDE NOTHING! Don't do it!
Free trial is bull$#*! they bill you immediately and give NO REFUNDS when you realize they are worthless and cannot provide what they advertise. They merely give you links to REAL providers that charge by the document. THIS IS A SCAM!
WORST WEBSITE! FALSE ADVERTISING! NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!
DON'T BE FOOLED LIKE I WAS!
Tip for consumers:
THEY PROVIDE NOTHING! Don't do it!

Would give ZERO STARS if there was that option. My mistake, should have read others reviews first before I fell for their "free 7 day trial". Had to enter credit card info-another RED FLAG I blindly ignored. My card got charged immediately, the site is horrible, the phone # they provide for customer service is constantly a fast busy signal(even more bogus) and I got bilked out of $ and had to deal with credit card fraud paperwork to ensure they don't take even more$. STAY AWAY...
Typed in fabricated totally non existant name and still came up with records. I suspect that this is to get everybody to sign up even if no records exist.
Trying to obtain a Death Certificate for a relative for genealogy and family medical history purposes. The state where she died said go to the county where the death occurred and contact them OR click on this site. I clicked on the site, filled in the info (credit card included) and ZAM! Charged almost $80! I thought, "Wait a minute! This must be cheaper from the county" so I went to the county, found out it was 1/4 that amount, and within 5 min called the 1-800# to cancel. "No problem!" was the response. Imagine my surprise when I got an email a week later from archives.com (did not know this was even the company before) saying they would refund me all but $15 because "we charge a $15 search fee if the order is cancelled before it is submitted for processing." What?! That means they take your $15 for doing nothing and before they even have a chance to do nothing! I contacted their "Customer Service" and got a wooden response. He couldn't adequately explain how they can legally do this, nor would he even consider crediting me. I had to contact my bank who are accepting it as a disputed charge and will kick it back. Awfully close to fraud...
Free trail over. Account says i have no subscription but ripping me off every month for money. Cannot cancel the subscription as they say i don't have one.
I originally really did want this service and on the first day of the free trial I asked them about what I was trying to do so it took them like a week to message back saying they're sorry but that's not exactly what they do but here's some of their sister sites I guess that maybe can help me. So right then I canceled my subscription they said my free trial would finish and then they would cancel the next month and then here I am with the money taken out of my account so I emailed them it took them over 24 hours to respond but the response said they're taking me off this subscription and taken any content I had off but it didn't say anything about a refund so I called and they said oh well since it took me 24 hours they cant give me a refund how in the hell I mean they could have at least left the month that I paid for on there but no be careful
I, too, regret that I did not read reviews for this bogus "company" prior to signing up for the 7 day free trial. I talked to two people (their customer service offices are in Omaha) who seemed to be reading off a script broken record style. One supposedly was a "supervisor"... in reality probably was the desk buddy of the previous person I spoke to. I asked for the address to send my request for a refund of this worthless service and for a contact person to whom I could send to their attention and he would not give a supervisor or head of customer service name. When I asked for the address of the corporate headquarters, he said he wouldn't give that out because customer service is in Omaha. Really? So what if all us unhappy customers wrote to the corporate headquarters and flooded their office with the stories of their atrocious and borderline scam service? I plan on sending letters there AND to "customer service" whose address is PO Box *******, Omaha, NE *******, at least that's the address according to the faux customer supervisor I just got off the phone with. I wonder if these people are aware that they have a non-credible rating as compared to a reputable company such as ancestry.com? I could only hope that as is stated on this site, that the owner of archives.com does see these reviews. Oh, wait, that would mean that the higher ups actually care about their reputation out there... somehow I don't think they care the least... only about the money their are raking in at the expense of the unknowing public.
BOA must have interest with this SCAM. BOA conspiracy must be obvious part of the scam... call was transferred to 3 associates trying to stop us from getting the victims' money refunded. The Bank Card services should be alarmed with all these credible complaints and file charges against SCAMMING ARCHIVES.COM... BEWARE.
Canceled two days before trail up on their website. I filled out their form and told them why but, I never received confirmation it(my fault for not calling them about that).
First, they say FREE. So why does FREE require a credit Card? Next, they TRICK you into going through several steps/screens and then bam: no results unless you give them credit card information to see the results of the FREE query. Simple low class scam by losers who depend on the user not reading the temrs and conditions and failing to CANCE the Service... these folds are depending on ripping off unsuspecting folks...
They are a people finder - like telephone and address. THEY ARE NOT AN ANCESTOR FINDER! BEWARE! On their site they clearly say "Explore Family History" BULL $#*!! There is no way that they do this - the agent 'T', she plainly ADMITTED THAT! They KNOW that they are LYING to people - they should be put out of business NOW!
All I can say about them is "#$@%$^$%^$#$@#!$#$%^$%^%$#$@$#___***#$!@#@!"
So I tried the "one week free trial" and after 5 days I tried to cancel my account so that I wouldn't start getting billed. There was no option to do this on the website, so I contacted them through the website to request confirmation that my subscription had ended, which went unanswered. Six months later when I changed my bank card, I received an email saying "we were unable to bill you this month" from them and realised they had been billing me $15 per month for the past 6 months so I asked them to refund me. They said if I could provide any email evidence of my attempt to cancel my account they would do this, so I found a six month old email to their customer service team which clearly spelled out that I wanted my account cancelled before any costs were incurred and sent that back to them, but then they replied to say it didn't matter, they were unable to provide a refund regardless. I'm not sure how I ended up in a battle for my own money after somebody stole it out of my bank account.
They told me in an email today, membership will be renewed on 03/18/15, but they took the money out of my account on the 17th. Didn't even give me time to safeguard my money. Isn't this fraud?
I have been doing Genealogy for nearly 30 yrs. When I went to Archives.com they stated that I was a member, yet I could not sign-in. I even went as far as to give a credit card, and would have actually paid for info, but the site continued to refuse to give me access. I wrote to "*******@archives.com" and received NO RESPONSE. I wrote again, and again. FRUADULANT comes to mind. I would not give this site any stars. I will contact my credit card service to refuse payment if they have the nerve to try to take any $. I deal with many genealogy services and this one brings the words SHAMEFUL FRUDULANT SCAM to mind!
Why can't i cancel this service, i have been waiting forever on the phone after speaking with a customer service rep. Is this a tactic to wear me down
I ordered two tops on the 28th of December.
Tracking did not work.
I was told several different excuses after having to chase custom service for days.
BREXIT, COVID, CUSTOMS, COURIER DELAY
Every day a different excuse for 2 months.
Eventually, I was told their European manufacturers went bankrupt and they now manufacture in Asia. (It's not clear to customers that their products are made and sent from Asia) Apparently more custom issues or problems with their manufacturers their lies were not clear! So they are not able to resend my order that was originally lost by their couriers! I mean the excuses are endless! Finally refunded 2 months and countless emails, Instagrams, calls later. Thanks to currency exchange I actually ended up paying them for this horrendous service! Worst customer service ever! They probably don't have any stock and are taking customers' money to buy stock i. E Ponzi scheme. DO NOT TRUST.
I hate archives.com. On hold for 20 minutes to cancel. Not the same as ancestry.com. Originally signed up for ancestry.com; tired to use for professional research. Terrible.
I have requested month after month after month to cancel my membership and I continue to have my bank account drained. They owe me well over $100.00 at this point. Probably closer to $200.00 DO NOT GIVE THEM ACCESS TO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT! You have been warned
Worst genealogy search site I've ever seen. Poorly organized, hard to search, calculated to get inexperienced researchers to pay as long as possible. Avoid.
Terrible Company, Terrible Customer Service; no telephone; chat only with a robot; it takes your money and runs. Filed a complaint with the company about a refund and got no response.
As bad as the creditcard.com ad. Once they get your money from your credit card, it is all but impossible to have them give it up. I had to cancel my card. Beware.
I sent an email to cancel. And they charged my card! I will dispute with PayPal. Ripoff. The information is minimal and directs you to othe pay sites.
