I used to be a Lifeline user when there was no other choice. Disgusting vultures that would steal data that I needed for my JOB, so I was ecstatic when I learned about Assurance Wireless. The service used to be better all around; including the ability to get a 21st century phone.
Now AssWireless has merged with Lifeline; data has gone from unlimited to 4.5 per month; which of course AssLine immediately began stealing. Every time data usage went under 2 GB; LifeLine would claim that all of the allotted data had been used. Now that they're a monopoly with no accountability or competition; they're back to their old tricks. It's so useless now that I'm going to have to change jobs.
Tip for consumers:
I would've appreciated being forewarned that Assurance Wireless would be monopolizing itself with the morally bankrupt LifeLine corporation.

Assurance wireless is the worst cellular service provider on a planet as far as they're offshore customer service. I've made hundreds of phone calls to insurance wireless customer service most of the time I've spent it on hold just to get disconnected after waiting from 30 to 60 minutes.

If you have a problem with your phone insurance wireless will stroke you along for 60 days and then tell you they can't send you a replacement phone because it's out of warranty even though the manufacturer's warranty is one year insurance wireless will say they only wanted the phone for 60 days

I contacted assurance the beginning on August for a replacement phone because mines was stolen. My phone was returned back to me the same day, so I gave them a call back to cancel my order. Now here it is September 7 and they block my IMEI number and I can not use my phone. I called them several time and they all singing the same song you have to wait 3-5 business day really $#*!s. I asked to speak to a supervisor he had no answer either. I asked them for corporate number I was told they have no corporate office 😂. Once my phone get back to working I will be dropping this useless sh**. Yes I am pissed off and I would not recommend this service to my dog.

I have a schok phone that will not charge. I've tried many different chargers including the one that came with it. Nothing works. Assurance wireless won't help. First they said my warranty expired. Then they said that I supposedly have a one year warranty through schok. Here's the interesting part schok say that they don't work with assurance wireless. After many discussions i have decided to go somewhere else because assurance wireless sucks.
Tip for consumers:
I will be going somewhere else due to the lack oh help I received.

This is supposed to be a free service for needy people who qualify for the Lifeline program.
They instead use their service to try to extract as much money from their customers as possible.
They disable the "Wi-Fi Calling" feature of your phone so that your 1000 minutes get spent before your month is over. Then they force you to buy minutes for a minimum of $10/mo for unlimited minutes.
THEY ARE BASICALLY SCAMMERS!
I switched to Access Wireless because you can use the "Wi-Fi Calling" feature, which saves countless minutes per month. I expect not to have to pay at all for this free service, which is how it's supposed to work!

I get that you're getting a free phone.
I signed up thinking this would be a good hold over until I can pay my phone bill. Received my phone yesterday, followed the directions to set it up. Found out that I had no account, no phone number and the sim card wouldn't work. Called to get it fixed, was on the phone for 20 minutes with them not listening to how to spell my legal name, then get transferred being told that it would be 24 hrs before my phone will work. It still doesn't work. Just a waste of time.
Tip for consumers:
Just go to somewhere else, this company is a waste of time.

The android phone I received had a charging port that broke. They sent me another phone with NO SIM CARD. I tried to call customer service, and the phone said NO NETWORK CONNECTION! They're impossible to connect to online. I was told that my data from the old phone could be transferred, but I CAN'T EVEN CONTACT THEM! None of their "survey" questions has anything to do with the problem being resolved, if you can even contact their customer "service"!
Tip for consumers:
If they didn't provide free service I would never use them.

I have been with Assurance Wireless for several years. At first, I liked it, but then the service started making me pay more and more for a new phone (if the one I had was broken or lost), and I was really getting tired of trying to get help and talking to people I could barely understand. This last time, when I was told I needed to return a phone that I'd lost, and when I asked for a supervisor I got an answer akin to, "Yeah, yeah, I'm trying to find one." I hung up and started looking for another phone service carrier.
Tip for consumers:
I liked Assurance Wireless in the beginning, but it's service has gotten worse and worse over the years. As of this year, I've had it. :(

My application was approved and I wanted to transfer benefits to Assurance Wireless. I tried to sign up for the service last week, 8-4-24. The website said that I was already with Lifeline (Assurance Wireless). I didn't understand it so I called, and the representative as usual didn't understand me. They ask me to register over the phone so I did. The representative said to me today that I was already a customer. I said I've never been a customer with Assurance wireless. The rep said I know because I don't have you in here as a customer. I said can I transfer from Safelink, a benefit transfer? She didn't understand me and then said she would have to ask her Supervisor about me being in there system as a customer but I'm not. The Supervisor told her to tell me to go to another service. I tried to ask the rep why can't I sign up for service with them and may I speak to a Supervisor? The rep said for me to hold on and then hung up on me. That was today 8-8-24. I called back about an hour later and the next representative wouldn't allow me to sign up with them either over the phone. My question to her was if it says I'm a customer and I'm not, can you de enroll me or cancel what is in there so I can start over? She didn't understand me either and basically told me to go to another service, she would give me the site to go to. I've never has such a hard way to go trying to get something that is being offered. I've never had it were I can't speak to someone in the USA that I can understand and they can understand me. I'm giving this warning to anyone that is going to have to deal with them so if you are on head medication, have it close by after you finish talking with them. I'm going to get mine now to stop my head throbbing!

WORST SERVICE EVER! And what's worse, your supervisors LIE! Called because there was an issue my mother's phone and a supervisor assured me that he escalated the issue to the engineering department and that someone was supposed to contact me within 48 hours. This is after already calling for 2 weeks straight trying to get help. Well NO ONE ever called me after 4 days. So when I called back, another supervisor said that the previous supervisor never even put in a ticket order to have someone from engineering to contact me. So the first supervisor LIED! Then this current supervisor had the nerve to say my mother's account was suspended for non-activity for 30 days. Well, of course it's been inactive…because no one from Assurance Wireless has been able to help us for weeks. I have cancelled the account. I wouldn't send a dog to Assurance Wireless. A bunch of incompetent and LYING customer service reps and supervisors. Trash!

I am extremely dissatisfied with my experience with Assurance Wireless. I never received the phone that I was supposed to receive. Every time I called to inquire about it, I was given a different excuse as to why it wasn't delivered. First, they claimed they couldn't mail it to my physical address because it couldn't be validated. So, I provided them with my PO Box instead. After waiting 10 days, still no phone. When I called again, they said they couldn't mail it to my PO Box either. Finally, they claimed that the phone had been delivered to the original sender, which is obviously them. This is unacceptable and incredibly frustrating. I am extremely disappointed in their lack of communication and inability to follow through on their promises. I do not recommend Assurance Wireless to anyone based on my experience.

I leave one star if I could I would leave zero. I'm not able to get money back for a phone that different than the one I had before. I can't get 80 dollars back. The customer service is dissatisfying. I asked to switch the phone and no customer service representative was able to help me.

When you call assurance wireless to purchase minutes they suggest l you to purchase online. When you purchase 250 minutes online and you don't call them afterwards and tell them you purchased 250 for $6.88 you ONLY get 50 minutes. (They charge you 10¢ a minute instead of giving you your 250 minutes if you don't call.them) When you call them and complained they tell you to purchase another 250 minutes for $6:88 which you will get ONLY if you call them otherwise you only get 50 minutes. Why should I pay for something I already paid for. They cheated me out of 200 minutes. How much money are they pocketing by this underhanded practice. If you purchase 250 minutes online make sure you call them or they will cheat you out of 200 minutes. I would post a picture of purchase but it is on my bank statement which I will not post for obvious reasons.
Tip for consumers:
That when you purchase 250 online that you are AWARE that you have to CALL them or you won't get 250 minutes. You will only get 50 minutes. You should get what you pay for. Why do I have to call them and them and tell them I purchased 250 minutes

The glowing 5 star reviews are very suspect given my experience. It has been an utter nightmare with an email trail of a revolving door of reps not DIRECTLY addressing my questions or concerns. The street reps in downtown Brooklyn in front of the SNAP building. Are very rude, Ghetto. It is like you are "bothering them." They really do not want to work their role.
The major complain I have is they gave me a 9 digit ID# to log in the site to manage my new account status but the site requires either a 6 OR 10 digit which for some reason in the 6+ email sent back and forth I cannot get. I am looking into other providers for a free service government phone. The stress of unemployment is enough. They are not an asset.

Extremely uncooperative, sent me a phone in someone's name that I can't use not can I get one from another carrier now. Most non English staff so can't understand what they are saying, will not take phone back. I feel like this should be a criminal offence as if I did this to someone charges would be brought against me rate at negative starts

First of all it seems NO phone is compatible with assurance wireless so "bring your own phone" is cr@p. They also don't offer any phones for sale if you want to upgrade. So, you have to accept the horrible phone they give you which will barely meet anyone's needs if at all. Secondly, I've only had my service a week. I'm already receiving multiple texts AND emails per day reminding me I'm in "danger" of losing my service unless I use it at least once a month. I'm using it every day! I've only had it one week! I don't need to be reminded multiple times a day every day by both text and email that I'm going to lose my service! Leave me alone for crying out loud! The tethering or hot spot feature... slow as a snail!

I really don't get all these bad reviews... Maybe it depends on your area. I've been with assurance wireless for almost a year and I have no complaints. I mean sure if you live out in the woods like I do service can be questionable but thats all services even the best of the best. I have a moto g pure and it's been an excellent phone actually better than the Samsung Galaxy A11 I paid over $200 dollars for & customer service has always been very polite and helpful never any issue that they were unable to resolve. I wouldn't go through anyone else and would highly recommend.

I've had this service since 11/2022. 1st phone didn't work, replacement was sent and received in 1 week. Since then the service has been fine. 2 complaints: 1-phone runs slower than my other phones. 2-sometimes when on a call the volume stops then starts again, a little annoying. But it's FREE, my last phone was $75 a month with comparable features. My usage with cell phones is pretty low. I don't "live" on it like most people do. So I'm mostly satisfied with it. I get by on disability now so being free helps a lot.

9 months in with a beautiful Galaxy clone they provided, and suddenly Assurance said I was ineligible and disabled my phone until I put $30 in a month. It was supposed to be free, and nothing about my disability or financial situation had changed. I had always logged on using data at least once a day. I didn't breach contract. When the trouble started, I noticed they started stealing bits of data. As of today, the data works from my payment, but the phone won't connect to "jack"! Ran through recommended online fixes. Nothin'! Switching to T-mobile android this week, and porting the number. Suffered enough and will contact the NY AG when I have the energy of mind.

Claims this is TMobile service actuality is they are the parent company and Metro PCS is the actual service which lacks service in our area. Reality is this device rarely works when home even on wifi. The phone does not allow wifi calling feature much less provide quality service. Would be better purchasing a plan from a service provider than this garbage. Pretty ridiculous for the folks that need it but, hey good ole government assistance.

My original experience with Assurance started slow as I had to drop my original pay as you go service with another company due to recent disabilities prohibiting me from working. I had no working phone to bring with me and had to wait more than a month for my free phone to arrive as understandably they were backlogged on devices. I did receive a very nice late model T-Mobile phone but unfortunately someone tried to plug a mini USB into the C type charging port and broke it 6 months after I received it. Assurance was fast and helpful in the replacement but the new phone is mediocre at best compared to the original one. But beggars can't be choosers. I'm just grateful for assurance wireless service in my time of need...
Tip for consumers:
Stop complaining about a free wireless service and phone that you didn't even pay for. As part of the T-Mobile family, Assurance Wireless has awesome coverage and their "free" phones are mostly up to date late models that are more than adequate for what you need. If you want better then get a job and buy a better more expensive phone. Full stop! ..
