As others have stated, I almost was turned away from Backcountry by all the negative reviews. But I couldn't find what I wanted on sale elsewhere, and I didn't want to pay full price, so I decided to take a chance. Most of the negative reviews are about the return process. So I was very careful to read the item reviews and size charts. I got what I ordered within just a few days. I paid less than half of what it would have cost elsewhere. I am very happy with my purchase.
Thought I bought a new jacket, but when it arrived it was clearly used. I contacted customer service and they offered a $15 refund or $25 in store credit. I don't understand why they would accept a return from someone if the product was used. I don't think it is fair for BC to then sell the product as new. They could at least let the buyer know the product is in used condition. I will never purchase from this site again.
If you shop at REI, then you should go to this website and look for their deals. You can find great coupons online that will give you 20% off and you can get your camping equipment at very good prices. Better than REI IMO.
I ordered a snowboard jacket during the holiday season. Post office had issues delivering and it was sent back to Backcountry. I called and had a service rep help send out another jacket from a different brand as the one I bought soldout. Gave me a small discount to match prices.
I bought a pair of sneakers on Friday. On Sunday morning they went on sale for $20 less. I bought the last size 6.5 on Friday and because that stock was now out (because I bought it!) they wouldn't price match their own price! Less than 48 hours after I ordered!
Will probably send them back. Idk why they wouldn't do that. They would have been my first place to look for the sneaker brand I purchased if they would have honored their own price. Absolutely ridiculous

Fix your policy and make it worthwhile for your customers
I have used backcountry several times and once upon a time they did ok was able to correct an order and still get it to me on time. Recently i place an order and was expecting 2nd day when they filled the order i notice they switch my shipping to standard priority mail the only reason i purchased was for the 2nd day shipping. When i contacted them the girl came on didn't know what say of the week it was and tried to tell me she couldn't do anything and its on the truck. This is bs at it's best. They no longer seem to care after they get your money. This is my last order with backcountry.
I would give -stars if possible! My bank just allerted me that there was weird movements in my account. I bought a jacket fod 60 dollars and was charged 2.000 euros on my account! I am serious. It's a complete scam. Beware
Tip for consumers:
SCAAAAAMMMMM? Beware, they will steal your money
I recently bought a Northface hoodie from these guys, threw out the tags and even wore it, only to realize it didn't fit like the Northface store one I had previously bought. I called Northface directly and they told me that Backcountry.com was indeed a reputable store and carrier of their merchandise. So I took the chance of contacting Backcountry at 4:30am via chat on their website and they said they would exchange for the correct size even without the tags and free of charge to me. Surprised the hell out of me! I highly recommend this store and will do business again.

I can't speak for others' experiences but mine was great. I hardly write reviews too, so I had to be extremely satisfied in order to write this one!
I ordered a pair of climbing shoes from backcountry.com. I was contacted shortly after my purchase by Trey Schanzenbach via phone and email. He was super friendly and assisted me in any questions I had. I was looking to replace some climbing gear as well and he assisted me in getting all of the items I was looking for. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and will definitely use backcountry.com for my future climbing needs!
I purchased a very expensive jacket from their website and they didn't even have the decency to let me know that they had canceled by order, when i went on to chat with them I asked what happened to my order and they said they don't feel comfortable selling to me... WTF? Ok thanks for nothing I will buy my son his $600 canada gooose jacket somewhere else from now on!
Bought a dog lunch bag that was shown as white with black dogs, however what I received was a black bag with white dogs, doesn't seem like a big deal but my canine bff is a large black dog. It was why I ordered it in the first place.
This company is for you. Have placed over ten orders... each one was ridiculously delayed to the point I had to buy duplicate products at REI. Their return and refund process was equally ridiculous.

I ordered an expensive ski jacket from Backcountry... I'm 6'3" and 250 lbs, so I'm in between an XL and and XXL. I ordered an XXL to be safe and they delivered a jacket labeled XXL. The jacket has arms that are 4 inches longer than my 'long arms' (I'm a 36" shirt arm length) and the jacket was literally 5 inches too small for me to even zip it up. It had XXXXL arms and M circumference. Nice job guys, good grief!
Hey James,
Just curious, was this a Backcountry branded jacket? I just want to make sure we understand which jacket this is you are reviewing so that we can relay this review over to our owned brands team! I hope we were able to help with a return or exchange on this item for you! Please feel free to reach out to our Gearheads by chatting through the site or calling 1-800-409-4502 if this situation has not been resolved yet!
Do not buy anything from Backcountry horses. Terrible return policy. It cost me $26.60 to return pair of shoes. Stay with REI, or Amazon the best companies for return merchandise

Purchased an on sale SRAM cassette from this company, waited over a week and a half and never received it. Tracking ID said "Waiting for pick up" and I had to contact the Support team for more info. Rep ended up placing another order for me, NOT refunding my original one and sending me a new tracking number. I had to contact Support AGAIN to request a refund. Now I need to return the item as I don't need it anymore because of the delay annnnnd find out that they charge $6.99 for a freakin' UPS return label.
Avoid this company at all costs.

They sendt me the wrong item. They sent me something that was similar, but cheaper and definitely not what I ordered. It appears that someone at Backcoountry switched the tags. I had to contact customer service twice. The first time, the rep went MIA mid-chat and the chat timed out. The second time, the rep was so slow responding that there were several times during our chat that I thought it would time out. Then instead of fixing the problem, they billed me for the item a second time... which means they charged me tax twice for a mistake that they made.
Hey R. W!
Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your experience with us on Backcountry. I am sorry to hear that our customer service on chats was not up to par. I can assure you, no one in our warehouse can switch the tags on any of the products and the reason why the tags might be different from the actual product is due to the vendors shipping to us as is and there can be mistakes throughout their product line. That being said, we should have totally helped you with getting this situation resolved in a timely manner. If you still need help with this situation, please feel free to reach out to our Gearheads by chatting through the site or calling 1-800-409-4502!
Backcountry are AWFUL - shop elsewhere. They charged my credit card three times, shipping was incompentent and delayed, and they claimed I didn't get a rebate I should have gotten, so they basically stole my money.
Hey Jingu,
Thanks for taking the time to express your concerns. Our billing process does include an authorization prior to actually capturing the funds. Depending on the bank and/or card company, these transactions can sometimes show up separately. In these cases, it's typically just a matter of the bank and/or card company releasing those funds back into the account. If you were shopping through a rebate site, typically that can be a little finicky and it's always a good idea to reach out to the site to make sure we are following the right steps to get points/rewards. I am very sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused. If you are still having trouble with this situation, please feel free to reach out to our Gearheads by chatting through the site or calling 1-800-409-4502 for assistance.
I placed my order in time for Christmas (barely) but received confirmation of delivery before Christmas. THE ORDER NEVER CAME! My account was charged but gifts for my children never arrived. Checked status after Christmas and Backcountry CANCELED my order!? When I called to ask why my order didnt arrive, then was canceled. They apologized and offered to resubmit my order (at full price) and as a gesture of apology, they offered me 30% off of any ONE regular priced item.
THAT was the best they could do for greatly disappointing my family's Christmas. 30% off a reg priced item? They offer better discounts on their website all the time.
I gave them an opportunity to make it right / keep my business and they basically told me to take a hike.
Kind-ish to speak with but very very poor attention to customer satisfaction.
Definitely dont count on them for anything important.
Disappointing.
I ordered from Backkcountry once, and that will also be the last. The product I received had a flaw in it and Backcountry gave me such as hassel about returning it, I will never order from them again.
I was on the phone over 2 hrs talking to multiple agents from back country. My return package which was ups label was last Scan was on 11/28 raonoke, VA ups facility and I had to repeat myself multiple times and cs agents even lied to me saying they opened investigation with ups but they didn't… as I called ups right after and was told ups investigation wasn't opened so I had to call ups myself and open the investigation. Cooper, one of the supervisor even blamed me saying this is part of refund scheme? Excuse me? My return package Was lost in transit and I was on the phone for 2hrs with no cs agent trying to escalate this case. They keep saying investigation was opened when it wasn't.I'm surprised how backcountry trains their cs agents and I'd like refund issued for my order. I'm also escalating this case to general attorney of New York, FTC and department of consumer affairs of nyc. Unless I get my refund, I won't close the case. N*******678 Is the order number

I spent a lot of time looking for a NorthFace Jacket that was Triclimate so i can have a spring rain coat, winter coat, and a sweatshirt too. I was also a little nervous about ordering from backcountry since I have never ordered from them before and read some of the previous reviews. But I am very happy that I ordered. I got the best price and the order was produced quickly. I did the standard shipping and it was here within 3 days of ordering it. I will order from them again
Ordered 2 STETSON brand hats from Backcountry. 1 of the 2 hats received reads RESISTOL on outside hat band. Site pic reads STETSON. Reached out for help. Reply was " so sorry " and gave me info to contact STETSON directly to see if they could help. I just wanted what I ordered and paid for. Went on to read reviews and 1 even stated credit card charged 2 times. Pulled my card account and sure enough they show 2 charges. BEWARE

I purchased my spouse a Northface winter coat for a Christmas gift and UPS delivered to the wrong people. I contacted Back Country and their Customer Service Agents was sympathetic and resolved my issue promptly! I would do business again and recommend.
If I could give a zero, i would. You have been warned, they offer products that they dont have and then they will send you somethig else, they will not resend what you order and they kept my money, so they stole my money and I never received what I order.

Nice site! Discovered here before christmas and I can say they did deliver the goods on time and everything was in working order. Cheaper than REI too.
