As others have stated, I almost was turned away from Backcountry by all the negative reviews. But I couldn't find what I wanted on sale elsewhere, and I didn't want to pay full price, so I decided to take a chance. Most of the negative reviews are about the return process. So I was very careful to read the item reviews and size charts. I got what I ordered within just a few days. I paid less than half of what it would have cost elsewhere. I am very happy with my purchase.
Thought I bought a new jacket, but when it arrived it was clearly used. I contacted customer service and they offered a $15 refund or $25 in store credit. I don't understand why they would accept a return from someone if the product was used. I don't think it is fair for BC to then sell the product as new. They could at least let the buyer know the product is in used condition. I will never purchase from this site again.
I had an excellent experience with backcountry. Granted I bought clothes, not gear, so my shipping was super fast. 2 days to be exact. Also they offered the best price I found online.
Absolute bully! The online retailer Backcountry.com is suing small businesses who also use the term backcountry' in their names. This includes many small adventure companies as well as the motorcycle non-profit BDR (Backcountry Discovery Routes). Please help the many small business who use the term "backcountry" in their name or product names and send Backcountry.com a message by boycotting their company. Backcountry' is a generic term that is widely used throughout the adventure industry and shouldn't be trademarked by anybody, this is totally nuts.
I had a Backpack reserved to purchase. They CANCELLED my order, sold and shipped it to someone else, then sent me an email AFTER saying my order was cancelled. I found this out the same day just a few hours later to pay for the order. The customer rep apologized profusely, but said there was nothing he could do. This was a discontinued pack that can not be found elsewhere. You would think they would at least call, email or SOMETHING asking if I still wanted my order before they sold it to another guy?
BE VERY CAUTIOUS with these people. They DO NOT KEEP THEIR COMMITMENTS.
Paid for my online order and never received. I contacted them and was told it's been waiting almost 3 days to be picked up by UPS. Now they tell me it's been lost and at can contact them again in 7 days to request a refund. LOUSY BUSINESS. BUYER BEWARE!

Bullying non profits and small businesses that don't compete with you and I fact could increase your wealth is stupid and a form of harassment that the backcountry community won't stand for.
Backcountry sent me a damaged pair of the ski goggles with a large scratch in the center of the lens, which I initially thought was a protective film. I wore once but stopped since it was too dangerous to ski without being able to see properly. After writing them several times without a response, they did not accept the return despite it being defective. Thus I paid over $100 for a pair of goggles I cannot use. TERRIBLE SERVICE. I WILL NOT EVER PURCHASE FROM BACKCOUNTRY AGAIN.
I tried to purchase an item on this website and when I checked the order status it was unable to be fufilled. So I checked my bank acct and realized they kept pulling out money until my acct was empty and the order could no longer be fulfilled. Almost $650 was pulled out of my acct without my authorization. After speaking to the rep from backcountry multiple times, they cancelled my 1 order and returned the 4 orders they pulled from my acct. That was yesterday. Today I looked on my acct and they did the same thing! Stay far away from this website. No discount is worth this. Stick with REI atleast theyre trustworthy.
I'm super disappointed in backcountry's shipping time. I ordered a tent on May 29th, it's now 8pm in June 16th and no tent in sight. The tracking number hasn't been updated since the 13th, so I have no idea where my package is. I'm scheduled to leave for my backpacking trip in 48 hours. If I don't receive my shelter as planned, I won't be able to go on the trip. I assumed backcountry was a reputable company and their shipping standards would be reputable as well. I wish I had done more research before ordering. Had I seen all the poor shipping reviews, I would not have ordered from them. I will not be ordering anything important from them in the future.
Ordered a gift for my husband on 12/5. On 12/19 the updates said my order was in China. Next update said it would be delivered 1/2/18. Still waiting. Calling tomorrow for a refund. DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY!
**WARNING**
This company is a scam! I ordered from them several months ago, the leggings were VERY different than the photos and the sizing was WAY off. I have emailed the company twice and received NO RESPONSE. So, now I am stuck with these disgusting, cheap leggings that don't fit and am out the money. BUYER BEWARE!
I posted earlier review as order confirmation
Was delayed, but rep was very professional & solved the problem. A glitch. Purchase
Is verifedd in transit with USPS. 4 stars. Thanks.
They got bought out by corporate sleezebags and now they sue small businesses who use the name backcountry. Don't support these trolls, shop local. Boycott Backcountry.com.
Looking for that perfect xmas gift for your outdoorsy friend... check out this site. Good prices and fast shipping. The variety isn't as big as REI but they do come pretty close
Purchase made September 8,2023. I shopped backcountry.com's sale page and decided to buy
a few pair of ski pants/bib for myself and my kids. Order was placed, received, paid for, processed and was awaiting to be "packed".
I was advised "once the package ships, we will send an email with tracking information". The only email I received was stating that they cancelled my order.
They offered me 20% off a single item for the cancellation, but the pants I purchased are ALL on discount still (except the color that I ordered and that they cancelled).
This was an intentional bait and switch, and super cheap way to acquire all sorts of personal infomation about new customers. This "mistake was INTENTIONAL, WILLFUL, DELIBERATE and carefully thought out as a way to boost their marketing base of customers.

I got some very good deals on two yeti bikes (previous models). Shipment of 1 bike went great. Something went wrong on the second shipment and it was delivered to an old employer address that I had not been near in 14 years. I had taken the address off of my profile.
A notice came that the bike had been delivered, but not to my home. I just had 3 packages delivered to my home address. The package showed up at the old work address. UPS left it in the 2nd floor lobby outside a vacant office without a signature ($6000) MTB.
The customer service rep acted like the whole thing was my fault. It did not occur to him that they lack the proper controls for confirming purchases of big ticket items and the addresses. The company used 3rd party insurance and authorized UPS delivery without a signature.
I should have caught the mistake. A similar bike 29" vs 27.5" wheel size had just been delivered about 3 days before this one to my home address.
Is it too much to ask for a signature on big ticket items like this. Is it too much to not go into automatically blame the customer mode.
I had the best experience at backcountry with the Associate (Jack Lucas) he was one of kind very professional, patient took the time to help me out nice friendly knowledgeable, expert the words i wrote not enough honestly I wish everyone be like him he should be customer service trainer backcountry lucky to have him thank you Jack

I recently bought a pair of snowboarding boots from backcountry.com that were advertised as "true to size." I tried them on when I received and they were at least a size too small, could not even get my foot in there. I talked to one of their "gearheads" and they said I would receive a full refund for the purchase. I put them directly back into the box and shipped them that day. Here is the return policy listed on their website:
"Unused gear can be returned at any time, with proof of purchase, for a full refund to your original method of payment. Unused gear must be returned in the condition you received it and with the original box and/or packaging, including manufacturer tags where applicable. If the original method of payment is unavailable, we will issue your refund in the form of store credit."
When I followed up with them, they said the gear was "used" because I tried on the boots. The new "gearhead" was super rude, and said that they weren't new because I tried them on. Lol. They also blatantly lied and said that the box was "full of glitter." Well that's a red flag for a company to be waiving. Do yourself a favor and go to a more reputable shop, like evo.com where I've never had any issues. Backcountry.com will straight lie to your face over and over again to keep your money. What a disgrace.
Tip for consumers:
Don't trust them.

THIS COMPANY IS TERRIBLE. I purchased 2 hoodies and they look NOTHING like the photos online. Worst quality I have ever seen. The sewing and material was awful. And the hoodies received were not even close to the same hoodies I purchased online. The packages were in Chinese writing, and came from China, with Chinese return addresses. The company is refusing to give my money back because they said the hoodies were on sale, but every item on their site claims it is on sale.
This is a terrible company. DO NOT EVER ORDER FROM THEM. They are deceptive, liars, and fraudulent. They lie about their prices and what they really have in stock. THIS ONLINE RETAILER NEEDS TO BE SHUTDOWN AND ONLY THE PUBLIC CAN DO THIS BY NOT BUYING FROM THEM.
I have ordered from Backcountry many times. Shipping is speed and always free with purchases $50 and up. Returns are easy and refunds prompt. Merchandise is quality. I highly recommend!
SCAM ALERT. Buyer Beware. They gladly take your money, and you will never get it back. You may however recieve a Cheap, flimsy, smelly version of what your ordered in a couple of months. And you can let your child wear it. If you can get stink out of it. CHINA CHINA CHINA. No wonder it took so long to receive. You can find better quality at the outlet mall, and take home your CRAP the same day. SCAM ALERT SCAM ALERT
Shipping department slower than a Sears & Robuck Catalog. Once the package eventually does ship and get lost, customer service department couldn't care less. I'll be shopping elsewhere.
Wow, I am totally at a loss for how awesome they are. Upon making a purchase I had a phone call from an account manager who wanted to make sure that I was happy with everything and offered to answer my questions and help me out if I needed. Turned out that one of the boots I bought was too small for my left foot, and it was a large ticket item so I reached out to my dedicated account manager and she got me all set up for a refund basically doing everything except actually shipping the boots back. Aleisha, my AM is awesome, she also gave me a call and provided a heads up on some camping sales which were timely because I've been borrowing camping gear my entire life. I figured it was time for an upgrade so I ended up getting a ton of equipment at discounted rates. If you want to learn a trick with purchasing stuff from backcountry, make sure to visit activejunky.com before hand because you will get cash back for your purchases as well, which is what I do. I highly recommend both of these merchants!
If you value your privacy, stay away from Backcountry.com After placing my order, I began to get pop-up ads in my browser window and they began spamming my email.
