As others have stated, I almost was turned away from Backcountry by all the negative reviews. But I couldn't find what I wanted on sale elsewhere, and I didn't want to pay full price, so I decided to take a chance. Most of the negative reviews are about the return process. So I was very careful to read the item reviews and size charts. I got what I ordered within just a few days. I paid less than half of what it would have cost elsewhere. I am very happy with my purchase.

“Thought I bought a new jacket”

Thought I bought a new jacket, but when it arrived it was clearly used. I contacted customer service and they offered a $15 refund or $25 in store credit. I don't understand why they would accept a return from someone if the product was used. I don't think it is fair for BC to then sell the product as new. They could at least let the buyer know the product is in used condition. I will never purchase from this site again.

Now backcountry is a terrible company. Do not recommend them to anyone. I have been a customer since 2003 and have spent thousands on gear. They used to care about their customers and now they care about money and only money. They have done nothing but destroy peoples lives.

Do not order from backcounty, I ordered a pelican cooler with wheels, and it has not been delivered. Ontrac held it 5 times, I called Backcounty and they didn't do anything, called Ontrac, same, it was worst, automated. Check on their website, held. Worst customer service and delivery. Who uses ontrac?

I was skeptical after I first ordered my helmet from them, after reading some of the reviews, and after never receiving a confirmation email that I had purchased the helmet, I was unsure of if I would ever receive it or not. I received a confirmation email on monday after the weekend letting me know that the helmet had shipped. I got it yesterday after the free 2 day shipping and was stoked! Ready to break it in! Thank you backcountry!

I returned a brand new pair of gloves that were never used, still in their original packaging with tags attached, and they rejected the return claiming they weren't in their original packaging and "smelled" used. Very dishonest company we will never do business with again. Over the years I've spent several thousand dollars with them and they've lost a customer over a $30 return. Shameful

When I found out they went after a woman run small business that promotes backcountry safety and education that was it. They are trying to destroy all the small businesses that grew from their love of the outdoors and our community because of what... using the word that describes the world we love to be in! How dare you BackCountry! It's NOT YOUR WORD! It's our world and you lost a whooooole lot of your customer base by turning into greedy pigs. Shame on you! How could you do this to the people you claim to support! DIsgusting! I am more than happy to spread the word to everyone I know to NOT use you for anything ever again.

I was a bit worried about negative reviews I read, but they had the best deal on a Helinox Ground Camp Chair with their 20% off summer promo and free 2-day shipping. And they also had another small item I wanted that I couldn't find in stores that I didn't want to pay half the purchase price on shipping! (It was only 9.95). Received order in 2 days - in great shape and they charged me the correct amount. Only complaint is I had a little difficulty with promo code registering the reduced price on web, so went back to previous page and clicked in discount banner. Then it seemed to take effect when order page refreshed. I would shop with them again.

They had a link to Outdoor Gear Lab stating that a Rab Microlight Alpine Mens' Jacket was on sale for $209.99. Following the link the sale was actually for an extra large version of the jacket from the prior year. Every single other Rab Microlight Alpine Mens' Jacket was $279.95. Very poor of this retailer to offer an advertising scam like that.

Avoid Backcountry.com like the plague!

I ordered a jacket from them 16 days ago, and have received no confirmation that the order was processed, and obviously I have not received the jacket either. I've called them three times to inquire about this, and I have not received a return phone call or an email. I wish I had read the reviews before placing an order with them.

Ordered a pair of boots. They sent the wrong size. They wanted me to pay for another pair to send out right away (I get the reasoning). I told them I will send the wrong ones back and send me the new ones once you get them. It took them 7 days just to process my return. I then had to call customer service again just to find out the status on my order. I asked if I would get my order by the end of the year. They said yes they would rush the order. Turns out all they did was bump my order to be sent out that day via ground shipping. Next time I will just pay $20 more so I will get my item right the first time.

I placed an order for a pair of winter boots with Backcountry. I received an order summary and was told my item would arrive on January 13th. A month later and with very little help on where my order was, I received an email that they had been returned. I have been on the phone with customer service for hours with no refund and no information. And no boots! Horrible customer service. Do not buy from here.

I will never order from this company again! I returned my shoes, and they say it will be two weeks before I get my money returned, maybe you guys should wait 2 weeks to take my money out of my account!

Wow, I am greatly saddened that this company is suing small companies and nonprofits for using the generic "backcountry" in their business names. These companies don't have the funds to fight back. I cannot, in good conscience, support backcountry.com. I will support companies that do the right thing.

I bought a dress which was too big and wanted to exchange it for smaller size, they did not have smaller size available so I had to return the dress and they refused to waive the return shipping fee, they said they only waive it for exchanges... I tried to reason that I would like to exchange it but it is their fault they are out of the smaller size, but they refused and were very rude, I will not ever go back!

I'm surprised to read so many negative reviews. I ordered a snowboard with them years ago and had no problem. I just ordered some bindings and within a few minutes I had a voicemail from customer service just checking to see if I had any questions and letting me know I can return the bindings if I don't like them. I also received an email stating the same. We then went back and forth on email about riding in general. Very pleasant experience! Plus free 2 day shipping!

I order the coat a size bigger and the coat felt like it was 3 sizes too small.
I got a refund number and after a month and a half no refund. Many tries to
Contact them and after the first couple they don't respond any more.

Ordered a pair of Arcteryx shorts then a pair of Arcteryx pants. I choose the $9.00 shipping for each. Big mistake! The UPS service used by Backcountry is slower than anybody. It has been 2 weeks and nothing has arrived yet. Each of these items cost over $100.00. You would think Backcountry will take better care.

I tried to order a pair of mountaineering shoes from abroad because i couldn't find my size in stores and they were one of the few to have them. I went through a very cumbersome process of calls and chats and checks to finally have my order cancelled... I would not recommend it if you are in my situation i. E. not a US resident with a simple situation. They will not try to help you and will actually make your life complicated

Never again. I saved and saved for the Telos Tr2 3 season 2 person tent. The first shipment was clearly too small a box to have the entire tent. They sent me an RMA and said they would ship the full tent 2 day air and I should send back the box that only had the body of the tent. Thank goodness I didn't. The second box, also crushed with no packing slip and no protective covering had the other two parts. I was given two shipments of product that look like someone else returned it and they sent it to me in parts. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I am afraid of what condition I'm going to find it in
When I set it up.

Tip for consumers:
I made a mistake getting a big ticket backpacking item from a company that I had not used before. That's the last time I do that.

If you are not able to use your gear-- like snowboard boots immediately upon purchase, and only learn when the season starts they don't fit-- if you bought from REI, you can exchange. If you bought from backcountry, you are stuck with it.

Tip for consumers:
do not shop at Backcountry for anything expensive. Buy from REI instead.

My order took 6 weeks to arrive after the assured me it would be 2-4 weeks. The junk they sent me is not what is advertised on their web site. Cheap cheap crap from china. I asked them to cancel my order before it was ever shipped and because it took them more than a week to respond to me, it shipped and now they refuse to return it. Multiple emails went unanswered and I was Blocked from their social media. Now they refuse to answer me at all. Complaint also filed with the BBB, which btw, they have an F rating with them.

I made a return to Backcountry, the item tracking showed the coat was delivered and Backcountry confirmed that it was returned. 1 week later still I didnt have a refund, I called Backcountry and they said they manually stopped the credit and no explanation was given. They said they will reissue my refund, we will see. Its bad when you have to chase a company down for your money back. Avoid this store.

They advertised current year stock and i received last year's ski pants. I informed them and they just said return them and that was it. I checked their site 2 weeks later and they still advertised their pants as current stock with the picture of the current stock pants. They just wanted to get rid of their old stock. Backcountry use to be awesome but now its the last place i would shop. Shame

I love them. Their prices are great, their sales are awesome, their shipping is quick. They have all the brands I need to buy, they usually have a decent amount of stock, and they have a large variety of merchandise.
