Backstage is generally well-regarded for its platform, which effectively connects actors and creatives to a variety of projects, enhancing career opportunities. Many users appreciate the intuitive interface and prompt customer support, highlighting positive interactions with specific representatives. However, significant concerns persist regarding customer service accessibility, with frustrations over the lack of live phone support and inconsistent response times. Additionally, some users criticize the platform for outdated features and irrelevant job listings. Overall, while Backstage offers valuable resources, improvements in customer service and platform functionality are necessary to enhance user satisfaction.

It's a bit expensive, considering the use of the website by the casting agencies is very limited. I feel like many casting directors do not go through this websites messaging service when you get call backs. I've received one call back and it was via text message to my personal number. I had to download the sms and it would not download and no one answered the number it was from. It was also in a group message so I had all these people texting my phone.
This is a great site for new actors looking to get experience in films. Lots of auditions, but a lot of work offered is unpaid.
I got more auditions than I have had in recent past. The only growth statement I would make is there was one audition I had at Hollywood casting on Santa monice street that contacted me later and attempted to illicit funds from me in order to procure auditions
I think Ive chatted with Stephanie about 4-5 times trying to figure out this site and she has just been wonderful! Thanks again!
I is hard to figure who is responding in Emails when I look at my emails I didn't realize backstage is the subject area when they respond

We look forward to hearing from you.
I love Backstage! This site is amazing! It is great for Actors and Actresses or anyone who wants to entertain!
Good straightforward answer. He made it clear that Backstage was not a forum for recruiting a production team without money on the table. Thanks.
Don't waste your time or money. Complete sham. Overpraise and deliver nothing. No way to even contact them to inquire about the product they ave sold you. If you want to flush $100 or more down the toilet - go ahead. Otherwise I would look elsewhere

Thank you for answering my question quickly! The service was great and simple. They responded in a timely manner which took care of the problem.
Please read reviews before purchasing subscription to this site. I have not received any auditions on his site... same listings posted on other sites Ive been called in for. Customer service is horrible, they are only interested in getting your money. BeWARE of this SCAM site.
Hi London,
Thank you for your feedback - we apologize if you were unhappy with our service.
I just wanted to clarify a few things about scams.
In 2017 almost 40,000 casting calls were posted on Backstage, and only an extreme minority (~1%) were possible scams, all of which were removed within a few hours of going up. When a casting call is posted on Backstage, it's automatically labeled as being an un-reviewed 'Instant' item with a scam-prevention warning. Then Backstage's team of casting specialists check every item for authenticity, at which point potential scams are promptly removed. Additionally, Backstage carefully monitors for suspicious site activity and examines feedback from the acting community to identify and eliminate any potential scams that may have slipped through the cracks. Backstage is successfully used to cast more than 100,000 legitimate roles every year, and has been the most trusted name in casting for more than 50 years.
If you are interested in learning more about our scam-prevention process, we'd be happy to discuss it at customers@backstage.com. We'd also be give you any other feedback or help regarding your subscription.
Customer service is rude and unhelpful. The manager Richard was very snarky and did not make me feel like a valued customer.
Listings are scam, as the whole site is.
Hello Diana,
Thanks for submitting your feedback, we're sorry to hear you were unhappy with your service. You unfortunately contacted us almost three weeks outside of our grace period so we were unable to process your refund. We understand that sometimes life gets in the way, which is why we send out a subscription renewal reminder 30 days before renewal so customers have ample time to cancel should they need to.
Additionally, I wanted to share some numbers with you, and give you a little window into the vetting process for our casting calls. In 2017 almost 40,000 casting calls were posted on Backstage, and only an extreme minority (~1%) were possible scams, all of which were removed within a few hours of going up. Again, we appreciate your feedback. I'll be communicating it up the chain to see if perhaps we should make adjustments to either our renewal reminder processes, or our refund windows.
Take care!
I am not pleased with this website. It seems as the majority of casting calls I've seen on this website for the past year are nothing but scams: improper grammar, strange word choice, etc. I just don't trust any casting call I see online. Which is why I am going back to college to take actual IN PERSON classes and not put up with this online nonsense anymore.
Hello Lisa,
Thanks for submitting your feedback. Additionally, Backstage carefully monitors for suspicious site activity and examines feedback from the acting community to identify and eliminate any potential scams that may have slipped through the cracks. There are occasionally casting calls submitted that maybe do not use the best grammar and have spelling mistakes, so they also clean up notices to make them more legible and understandable.
Backstage is successfully used to cast more than 100,000 legitimate roles every year, and has been the most trusted name in casting for more than 50 years. Again, thanks so much for your feedback but I wanted to show you some of our numbers and explain our process so you can see what's going on behind the scenes.
Good luck in your career!
Make sure you read the fine print on auto renew! My daughter got 2 leads and one guy wanted to meet her at a Starbucks. Very shady! I was charged the following year for the renewal and I tried to cancel. Can't get anyone on the phone but someone emailed me. Because it was after they charged my credit card it was basically tough $#*! we got your money already! Its too late to get a refund but we can cancel your subscription. Which they did. They canceled it but kept the money. I have never had a legitimate company cancel my subscription and keep my money.
Beware!
Hello Robert, thanks for submitting your feedback. I just wanted to respond to clarify some of the details.
As you mention, Backstage is an automatically renewing online subscription service, much like Netflix, Huluu and Spotify. Annual and semi-annual subscriptions with us have a refund window, but you need to get to us within 5 days of the charge in order to be eligible. We understand that sometimes life gets in the way, and subscriptions like this can be forgotten, which is why we send out a renewal reminder one month before renewal so customers have plenty of time to cancel should they no longer desire to use the service.
The good news is, that when a subscription is cancelled, you retain access to the subscription features for the time you have paid. Your daughter's subscription will not renew, but she'll be able to continue to apply to the opportunities on our platform for the duration of her subscription payment.
Hopefully that helps clear up any misconceptions.
Thanks for using Backstage.
Don't think you need special talent to be an extra.
Also fees whats all that about? I'm still interested but a little bit complex.
I love backstage because of the opportunities to get acting gigs, but for some strange reason I have been in many acting projects, but backstage never helped me receive any work, I did it on my own! Maybe in the future I will get gigs with Backstage!
Hello Nathan,
Aw yeah, you're a tough independent actor who don't need no casting platform. Congratulations on your success! If you're ever feeling lonely though, feel free to come back to Backstage where more than 100,000 roles are posted every year. We'll treat you right, we promise.
I really enjoyed Backstage during my time in New York. Unfortunately it is not as helpful in chicago.
I wish I could have had some information on backstage about the email I had sent I hope I can hear something back and I also hope to be able to have a career with backstage
