This place is honestly horrible and customer service sucks! I didn't even get to have a new baby added to my home because of them canceling my order. They say it's cause of address issues but then say it's payment issues. I haven't got my money back and I will definitely not be reordering. DONT BUY FROM HERE!

I have always wanted a brazillian rainbow boa, and stupidly did not do enough research on this website. I browsed MM and couldn't find a cheep adult, so decided to buy one here. The seller told me basically nothing about the animal I was buying. I went through my usual questions that are extremely basic information when buying a snake, and was told pretty much nothing. Was not told when he last ate, WHAT he ate (so now I have no idea if he even will take f/t), when he shed, how old he was, or his weight/length. Luckily he arrived in fine condition, if a little skinny but boas are food vacuums so I'm not too concerned. No signs of illness or mites, I'm just trying to get to know his basic information on my own now. Not to mention I received a very defensive snake that is making me suspect he wasn't captive bred at all. I know how to handle snakes and their behavior, I have never had one this nervous. I wish I was at least informed of his behavior because it feels they just threw their most problematic snake onto an unsuspecting buyer. Of course I already love him and am more than willing to work on his behavior, but the communication is definitely an issue. Also could not even get into contact with the breeder until I had made the purchase, so it was too late to back out.
We received our 5-year-old male Russian tortoise, Dex, on November 5th. As first-time tortoise owners, we didn't know what to expect from his personality. On November 7th, I texted Big Apple Herp because Dex wasn't eating or drinking enough water. Over the next few days, I sent daily texts asking for advice on food and other ways to make Dex happy.
After 2 weeks of watching Dex do nothing, and never seeing him eat, we took him to the vet on November 21st. The vet gave him antibiotics to treat common Russian tortoise issues ($250 vet bill). Unfortunately, the medication and daily warm soaks didn't help Dex recover. This was heartbreaking for our 8-year-old son, who spent his birthday money on his first Russian tortoise.
Throughout this ordeal, I've kept in touch with Big Apple Herp, asking for a refund under their policy. However, they've denied my request, citing a 3-day health guarantee that only covers dead-on-arrival animals. I think that's a terrible policy. Looking at photos from his first day to his last, it's clear he wasn't healthy when he arrived. Big Apple Herp should be ashamed of their poor business practices, which ruined the "first pet" experience for our son (https://www.bigappleherp.com/pages/live-animal-policy).
Terrible customer service. Non existent really. Sent wrong snake then refuse to refund, offered to exchange so long as I sent it back urgent overnight on my own dime- even after admitting the wrong one was sent!
Ordered a 7 to 10 inch red bearded dragon from this company. Received it it was pretty much dead upon arrival. It was nothing like I ordered or was in the picture that I thought I was getting and still don't know what they're gonna do about it. I paid almost $200 to get some thing that I could've got at my local pet shop if that's what I want it. But that's why I ordered it off this website and now I'm regretting doing that. I don't suggest purchasing any animals from this company in my opinion. I would risk it.
Place is horrible! Sick gecko bad customer service. I mean you Steven. Animal ended up dead 1 week later. They said my pictures are blurry. It's got a bruise on its back, respiratory infection, mouth rot, and for some reason it never runs from me and won't focus on anything. Cause it's blind Steven, it's blind! Booooo! Ordered a snake on Thursday, received an email stating the snake would not be shipped till Monday. At 5:04 on Thursday I received and email showing my snake was sent with a tracking number from FedEx. I checked the tracking number show it was going to the wrong state Texas, I live in Indiana. I checked my order and confirmed it had the right shipping address. I immediately texted pictures and informed them of the situation. Received NO Response back…. Watch out scam alert…
These jerks will charge your debit card, and then cancel your order for the most Ridiculous reasons. Then, claim they didn't do anything. They're arrogant, ignorant and shady. Worst buying experience I've ever had! They flat out SUCK.
I'm very dissapointed with the customer service at this place. The lack of professionalism is crazy. I was considering buying a skink from them and unfortunately will not be doing so after my very short and unexpectedly rude conversation with them. I'm pointing out that on their website they give a contact number for questions, as well as a posted statement saying "before you buy anywhere else text us for a better price". I didn't even ask for a "better price" I asked if they price match and if I could potentially pick out my skink from the ones available. This was my very unprofessional response I received. (Look at screenshot below) I was taken back. If the response was professional and kind, I would have went ahead with the purchase anyways, and bought one from them. But now I'll be sure to steer clear, I'll be recommending people do the same as well. Buying a new pet should be fun and from a source that is professional and happy to help. This is not that place.
My Zero Beardie came well fed and energetic, also came within a week which is amazing. Company takes great care of it's customers and animals definitely recommend them and would definitely shop with them again if needed
I bought a savannah monitor for my 11 year old son. It was his first reptile pet. Monitor arrived alive but skinny. I have owned many reptiles including monitor lizards. This monitor would not eat, we tried pinkies, fuzzies, crickets, mealworms and nothing. Two weeks later my son checked on it and it was dead. Very unhappy. My guess is it was not captive bred and they probably did not make sure it would eat before selling it.
I ordered an adult male European Pond Turtle that was confirmed via email to be available. I received an adult female today and took a photo of the cloaca / tail that is proximal to the plastron. Males have a distinctively larger, muscular tail with the cloaca closer to the distal third of the tail to facilitate mating. Despite the picture, they insisted it was a male and that their "guy with 22 years experience" says it is. "We appreciate your understanding the complexity that often goes with identifying the sex of many animals." Perhaps he thought the turtle identified as male. They also cited their proviso that "sexing" of turtles is not guaranteed. Well they advertised this as an adult male for sale. This "male" turtle is also gravid with eggs that can be palpated.
Update: The turtle in question was found dead in my pond 3 days after delivery. Cause is unknown. I dissected the turtle and found eggs and ovaries confirming the gender of the turtle.
Phantom Fantasma arrived energetic and healthy! The box was very secure and well packed. When I messaged the site with a question, they were quick to respond! Will definitely purchase from Big Apple again!
Got a pied ball python today. Only has one white band close to tail. It's 95% color. Very disappointed. Won't be ordering from them again. The packaging of the snake was great. One thing they should do is let customers know what they've been feeding the animal. I thought it would have at least 2 bands... According to other pictures of people who ordered the same snake it had several bands on it.
After writing my previous review I started receiving messages from an unknown number 7 4 7 9 9 *******. They are sending me vague threats asking my mother's name and address. These people are jokes, iv already reported the number to the police. A company like this should not be able to do business.
Waist of time. I received an email about corn snakes and when i attempted to buy one, they accused me of fraud and when I sent them the photos they requested they said it was sold. I mostly keep tarantulas and IV bought all of them online and this is the first time iv had a bad experience trying to buy.
Placed an order paid for it charged 27$ for shipping then later that night got an email from them that they wanted 24$ more after i already paid the agreed shipping on the site or they could ship all i got was crickets absolutely ridiculous
ETA- after the snake died, we were able to actually measure it. It was a total 31 inches long. I gave a review on multiple websites for this awful company - one being better business bureau- the company actually went back and forth in comments to me and even had the nerve to say my NINE year old son and i just try to scam reptile dealers! Disgusting company, even worse customer service. I highly suggest purchasing absolutely nothing from this company or any company associated with them. I added a phot of the deceased snake :( it was belly up, but i couldnt bare my child accidently seeing her thar way, since he checked on her every morning when he woke up.
I highly recommend purchasing from anywhere else. I purchased a baby ball python. They took the payment out of my account immediately, but sent absolutely no confirmation on my order. Shipping was fast but that was the only positive thing that came along with this order. The company states florida, but the snake was shipped from texas. The snake was between 18-19 inches long. Nothing like the video "of a comparable snake" we would receive. There was zero information in the box. Not approximate age or the last time she was fed. Also, no information on if she had been given live or frozen mice. The Only way at all to "talk" to someone from the company is to text them. Emails are all automated and just tell you to text them anyway, so don't bother sending an email. I texted them the day after we received our order, and asked approx. Age, when is the last time she was fed, and if she had been given frozen or live mice to eat previously. They responded to wait 48-72 hrs to try and feed. Also that they eat fuzzy mice. We waited the 48 hrs, she wouldn't eat. We tried again after the 72 hours, still nothing. Her cage had two hides, one warm and one cool. She had a water dish. Her cage was set up great, but sadly i woke up this morning and she was dead. We hadn't even had her for one week. Please do not order from them. They do not get back to you in a timely manner, if at all. For live reptiles, you must report any issues withing 3 days. If you choose to order from them, keep everything your reptile was sent in along with the shipping label. Then send it right back. I am so upset, and so is my son who was really excited about our new snake that died within a week. Awful.
My college student was very excited about buying her first chameleon. She decided to use Big Apple Pet Supply. What a mistake! Her chameleon arrived dead! Why would they mail a reptile in the middle of winter to Reno?! On top of that, this company that claims to have been in business for 27 years with 1 million reptiles sold refused to refund my college student her money! Absolutely ridiculous! This company should know better and have better customer servive! I hope they enjoy the $135 they stole from my daughter! I will not recommend them to anyone.

Answer: Absolutely a legit company! DO NOT ORDER from backwaterreptiles.com, they sent a sick baby skink that needed an emergency vet visit that cost my daughter $208, she paid $220 for the skink from them to begin with and it ended up dying.

There's something seriously wrong with this individual who resides in Flemington, NJ and goes by the name of Kristopher Stryker. The individual has multiple orders to our company for a $450 corn snake with different email addresses, names and each one came up with a high listing as potential fraud. According to the bank information, they did not match what was on file with them and we denied sending a $450 order to someone who's purchasing with credit card and information that could not be verified. Since this time this individual has continued to review us negatively simply because we denied to sell him an expensive animal based on the issue above. He also tried to use the Sezzle payment system on our website and they denied the purchase as well. We have absolutely no idea what this person is talking about on this review as we are in Florida with a 561 area code so likely he's in trouble with someone else. Please stop harassing us on websites and making false claims. We do not wish to have any contact from you in any way. We will defend our good name as we have been in business for 26 years and online since 1994.
