Blurb used to be a good company, but now has poor customer service. There's no number, and it takes almost a week for someone to respond to you. I've been in communication with * regarding my complaint for almost two months now, and the problem still has not been resolved.
I had ordered a proof copy of my book, but Blurb did not include my apartment number. As a result, the book was returned. No refunds given nor discounts or replacement of the book. I've decided to use Lulu from now on. Better all around.

I received my two lay flat books from Blurb and they were incorrectly printed and most pages have bleed on them. I triple checked the bleed on my pdfs and they were fine. The bleed issue only seems to be on the left pages of a spread so it's definitely not me. It has been over 8 days since I've received them and nothing has been resolved. Any company that gladly accepts $1200. 00 for printing but doesn't even have a phone number for customer serviced should we reported to the BBB.
I was dismayed to find that Blurb cannot handle images with resolution greater than 75 MP.
When asked about this limitation their response was to Google image resizing. Half of my images exceed 75 MP. None of the apps I tried will resize the resolution. Cannot use the app at all.
Excellent web site.
Their book design tool is one of the flexible, easy to use and intuitive that I have come across. I've tried several and found their tool get's me my books designed the most quickly. You are limited only by your own creativity.
The books are good quality. I've designed and bought around 1/2 dozen now.
Only once did I have an issue... a book was damaged in transit... i let them know by email, and they replied within just a few hours promising to immediately ship a brand new copy by express (premium) delivery... with no charge to me. And they were true to their word.
Only word of caution... they do offer a premium paper option... this is good, however, if you have too may pages, then you may find the binding struggles to hold. But this is well documented, and plenty of literature and guidance provided.
Very Reliable. Fantastic Service, Good value... why use anyone else:-)
Not sure what they are trying to pull but they grossly over calculated sales tax on a $2000 order. I had to contact them and point out the error. Interesting way to add revenue to their bottom line. Buyer beware!
I used them to buy two books for my clients that I paid full price for. One book never showed up as per my client (who really knows in that case) and the other book showed up cut way outside of the trim lines. I reached out to customer service who very coldly told me best they could do was a coupon and that this was a self fulfillment service so it is not their fault, they're on our end. I lost $150 to this company for nothing. I can maybe understand it was just this rep having a bad day but this is unacceptable! I want refund for both of those books if they even want me back as a customer.
Hi Azande,
I'm really sorry to hear of the problem with your books. I know it must have been upsetting not to receive one of the books and in cases like this, we're happy to offer a free replacement.
I also understand there was some confusion with your book layout and where the content should be placed. The following article explains trim guides in BookWright: https://support.blurb.com/hc/en-us/articles/207792656-Trim-Guides-in-BookWright
I hope you'll find this article useful if you decide to make another book with us.
I've read your support request and I'm glad to see that everything is resolved now, and you were offered a solution you're happy with.
Please feel free to update your support request if you have any further questions or if you need help with anything else.
Best,

I think my review title says it all. I recently created four magazines on Blurb and am highly disappointed on a number of levels.
1. No customer service. My highly experience design team was having an issue uploading to Blurb so we sent out a simple request to customer service and all we got in response was an automated reply which was of no help. Thankfully we were able to resolved one of the issues ourselves but we we not able to resolve the e-book version and Blurb never replied to us. Ever...
2. Horrible! I mean horrible color. None of the colors matched when printed.
3. Ridiculously overpriced for such a poor product and zero customer service.
My company is looking for an alternative print-on-demand source. Does anyone know of a good one?
Hi Michael - My apologies that you did not receive a reply from us. We do respond to all emails sent to our Help Center. It is possible that something went wrong in the receipt of the email. We can certainly look into the color issues for you. Please send an email via https://support.blurb.com/ and include pictures of the printed magazine(s) showing the issues and we will get back to you asap. Best regards ~ Jessica K.
If i could give ZERO stars I would. This place is a joke. I ordered 10 magazines for my photography business and it ended up costing me around $130. I received the product... later than anticipated... and it was complete garbage. Some text was missing throughout the magazine, all of my images were completely washed out. I cannot send this to clients. When I submitted a customer service request, it took over a week for them to get back to me. I submitted multiple pictures of the product and why it was defective and was told I should have gotten their more expensive magazine... I asked if I could get credit for the defective magazines and was told NO (even though other photographers I talked to said this happened to them and this was the outcome) The real slap in the face was that Terry the customer service rep told me I could have 25% off my next order. REALLY? Why would I want to waste any more of my money with this awful company.
This company has atrocious customer service as in I would send an email through their system and never get a reply. I asked them to change the shipping address on a very important book while it was still being printed as I was travelling and needed urgently shipped to NYC where i am going to. The customer service never replied while it was still possible and only after it was shipped did she reply. After reading the reviews for quality here on this site I am even more petrified that this will be an awful experience. The book is stuck in customs most likely die to the fact that they dont know how to fill out simple paperwork. The customer service is truly deplorable and I will be asking for a full refund as now it looks like i wont be able to get my book in time.
Hi David,
I’m sorry to hear of the problem with your order. I was able to find your support request and saw that we couldn’t change the shipping address while your order was in production because the new address was in a different country. However, I’m glad to see that our Customer Support team offered a solution that worked well for you and that you received your order. I hope you enjoy your book!

I've been working with them for over a year now. I've had all sorts of technical issues to solve, and they've always come through for me. (Customer service even seems to be working at night and on weekends.) My project had some unique challenges, so perhaps it wasn't typical. I shouldered all the technical aspects of creating the body copy and cover myself (thousands of lines of server-side code, then lots of Photoshop), so I didn't have to use any of their software. I'm amazed at the sharpness of the body copy from my pdf file. It looks a lot better than anything I can even render out myself from Adobe Acrobat. So if you've had some professional experience with design and typography and don't need a lot of technical hand-holding, I'd stick with Blurb and save a ton of money.
Answer: Hi Vincent, I'll be happy to answer your question. Blurb prints on demand, which means that we don't store copies of your book but, instead, we print a new copy every time we receive a new order. If you closed your Blurb account, your book file was permanently deleted from our servers. However, you may still have the original file on your computer, in which case you can upload it to a new Blurb account. If your account is still open but you can't remember your log in credentials, please reach out to our Customer Support team and they'll be happy to help: https://support.blurb.com/hc/en-us/requests/new Best, Blurb Team

Answer: Hi there! You can definitely make your book or magazine with Blurb and keep it private. When you upload a book to your Blurb account, by default it is private and only you can see it and buy it. We offer you the tools to publish and sell your book, but you don't have to sell it if you don't want to. Also, the copyright for your content remains yours. We are offering the authoring tools and the printing/binding of your masterpiece. The content, book, and all rights are yours. This is detailed in section 8 of our terms and conditions: http://www.blurb.com/terms. Section 6 of our End User License Agreement also clarifies that you retain all title/rights to your content as used in our books: http://www.blurb.com/software-eula I hope I've answered your questions but feel free to contact our Customer Support team if you want to know more: https://support.blurb.com/hc/en-us/requests/new Best, Blurb Team
Answer: You still own rights, and they do print on demand. When you say later, I am not sure if you mean when ordered or different. However, they are a rip off and treat sellers/authors like you are stupid. I have for 3 years been trying to publish with them and never got answers to my questions. I had to get an employee to contact them who had patients with their stupidity. I asked where else do they send it besides Amazon. Their response "Amazon and so forth." No Kidding! As far as ripoff, in order to make $1 in royalty for each book, the price has to be $61! My books are not textbooks, which it would be a great deal on. They are everyday self-help or educational and only 100+ pages. The same thing on Amazon, if I got there directly, is less than $10. On Amazon $10 is considered a high price for it. STAY AWAY! With over pricing and rude people, you will not make money even if you do get it published.
Blurb has a rating of 1.4 stars from 101 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Blurb most frequently mention customer service, phone number and photo book. Blurb ranks 313th among Writing sites.
Hi Kate,
I'm sorry to hear that you're not happy with your order. I was able to find your order in our system and see that you were charged the right State tax rate for your order. We are required by law to charge tax in certain US states where we have a physical presence, such as our headquarters here in California or one of our print facilities. We may also charge tax in other states that tax e-commerce orders. A list of the US states in which we charge tax can be found here: https://support.blurb.com/hc/en-us/articles/207794606
I was also able to find your support request and see why your book didn't print as expected. I see that you were given some advice, including checking the online preview, to prevent this from happening again. It's also a good idea to order and review a single printed "proof" copy of your publication before you place a large order, put it up for sale or send it to a client. That way you can see how the printed, trimmed and bound publication looks and make any necessary changes before you place the final order.
I hope the advice and discount you were offered by our team will be useful for your next order. If you still have any questions or doubts about this order, please feel free to reach out again and our Customer Support team will be happy to help.
Best,
Blurb Team
