I would give 0 stars. I bought a game in 12/17 it is now 2/10/18. No game. I have written 4x with no answer on tracking if they need my info. They didn't give me any info of how to access my order. They did accept my money through PayPal and never returned it. This site is a scam. Avoid it if you can. Filing fraud charges through PayPal currently.

I had been on BGG for some time, the site in it's self is very good. So what happened? I was a member of a guild/group and when I finished making a post, as I do in all letters/post after my sign-off name I would say God Bless Ya!, or Jesus Lives, I was warned that doing this was overtly religious and not welcomed. Later on when replying to a post about the need to having more gay/trans inclusion/representation in actual board games themselves, said in a tact full manner, BGG said because of my past contuct (the God Bless) and my opposition to the LBG movement I was not the kind of person they wanted on their wed-site. They gave me a lifetime ban / and don't ask for reinstatement, for it will not be given.

If you need to know anything about a board game, this is the place to go. An invaluable resource for rules reviews and detailed information about almost every game ever published.

Unfortunately there is a biased and dictatorial regime that oversees the community that visit this world. Those viewed favourably may post skewed comments about games and add personal criticisms usually because a game is at variance to their preferred lifestyle or perception of history. Attempts to debate these points of view is not tolerated, even when the response is respectfully phrased and factually on point. Any counter argument is promptly delated under the banner of being 'disrespectful' or 'derailing'. It is like the 1st amendment never existed.

Favoured individuals and publishers are given royal treatment with BGG staff even uploading and promoting product. Outsiders to this clique are ignored and made to jump through hoops to gain even basic access to the site. Rules are cited to justify the hurdles which are frequently created to slow the process or deny approval of copy. Meanwhile the preferred members can be seen to have no such regulation imposed on them.

Tip for consumers:
Refer to the database but don't engage with the community or admin

It may take some getting used to but this site is incredible. I've been using it to learn about board games ever since I learned it existed in 2012.

You can get all of the information you'd want on a game including images, reviews, questions on rules, places to buy it (including the BGG Geek Market which I've successfully used once), previous versions, etc. My favorite feature is probably the ability to log your plays. It's not easy to do, but it's well worth the effort. The BGG app that I regularly use on my phone is easier than using the website to log games, at least in my opinion. Another very useful feature is ability to make a wishlist and keep track of what level of excitement you have, personal notes, and whether you might just want to try playing the game first.

Another great thing is there are other websites that use your BGG stats to display them in another way. A great example is Playback (https://playback.geekgroup.app/[your username]). It shows your plays in chronological order as a growing bar chart and you can click "explore more" to get a ton of stats.

I think if you have any interest in board games, this is a must-use site. Very reliable.

Tip for consumers:
Your personal experience with the Geek Market will vary because it's your fellow gamers. You can't rate that any more than you can rate eBay as a site for the wide variety of sellers you'll end up with. I think it's valuable because it's another option, but I still personally default to board game retailers, local stores, or sites like Amazon/eBay.

Boardgamegeek is a great source for all things board game. I have consumed and contributed much over the years.

"Octavian" (BGG administrator) however has a record of deleting posts that he feels are "inflammatory or argumentative". A noble thought. However, as usually is the case when acting on this level of power, the controller of said power ("Octavian" in this case) clearly allows his personal prejudices to show through. I have seen numerous inflammatory posts supporting leftest thought left up permanently (challenge me and I will demonstrate). But if somebody posts something speaking against those leftists thoughts, even if written respectfully and courteously, he will remove them. I've seen it happen numerous times, and numerous people have witnessed/discussed it. And these are game-related discussions. Many games deal with "controversial topics", and it seems if the point being made supports current left view points, they can stay,... even if generally disrespectful of others opinions and/or personally offensive. Argue against those points, your post is removed.

It is a shame that BGG supports this cancel culture. Even though I personally am middle of the road politically speaking, I will no longer contribute to BGG simply because I can not stand such selfish, single-minded, un-American thought/action. I hope BGG makes some changes in the future. I am only speaking of games/gamers in this post, but this single-sided cancel culture is hugely pervasive in society now. It stands in the very face of what this country is all about. Freedom of speech (even if I don't like what you have to say), the sharing of ideas, this is what makes the US special. C'mon BGG, get it together!
