After ordering my first book, I came across this site and got nervous. Happy to report that my book arrived within a few days and was exactly what I ordered. Contrast that with the rental I got from Amazon, wrong edition and much worse condition, the one I got from CBR was correct and in decent condition, although it's clear it is a well used book. I don't know if they have improved their process since some of these other reviews, but I felt they could stand more of a balance in their reviews here. So far my experience is positive. If I have issues upon time to return, I'll come back and update this...
I will never get a book from here again. The book we received is highlighted almost every single word and there are notes like crazy on every section of every page. It is SO distracting and hardly usable. They told me they'd send another book and never did. Then when questioned took back their word. Rip Off!

Tip for consumers:
Don't use them! They ship books that are in horrible condition and promise they will remedy it and then don't. The book we received was barely usable.

Bought a book that was a piece of trash.
I ordered a book and it got cancelled. No biggie. I got the refund two days later, however it was taken back out of my account the same day. I am so frustrated talking to customer service who keeps giving me a new person every single time and don't understand what I'm talking about. I just want my dam money back!
Tip for consumers:
Skip the hassle and don't shop here.
I am a college student, and was ordering a book for my ASL class. Found a good price and ordered one through them, and even paid extra for faster shipping because I had a quiz the first week of class I needed the book for. Ordered and got the conformation email on Sunday, but never received an email saying it had been shipped, so I logged into their website that Thursday, just to see my order had been cancelled! I understand things happen, but could they not send an email or anything to notify me of this? I wasted 4 days waiting for this book that I need asap! I called customer service to see why this occurred and ensure that I get my refund, and she told me this happened because they were out of stock... my question is why make it available to purchase in the first place? If they have no stock don't allow customers to order and pay! Terrible communication and customer service. Currently waiting for me refund.

I ordered a Human Resources textbook from this site, as it is required for my college course. I even paid for fast shipping, and it still hasn't shown up yet. This textbook was going for about $80-$90 on the college bookstore website, this site only offered it for about $53. I'm going to find a way to cancel this order, get a refund, and order from somewhere else. I desperately need this textbook ASAP, as I have homework assignments due soon that require me to read it. You're better off paying more money when buying your books directly from the school's book store, or at least getting a pdf download of it.
"We wanted to thank you for your order of XXXX. Please know it's with our sincerest apologies we are letting you know this book has been cancelled.
It happened within 12 hours after the order was confirmed. This is the most insincere apology I have seen. These guys did not even bother to tell you why the order needs to be cancelled. Sucks.
Ordered a Biology book for my grandson for college. It came sooner than expected and in pristine condition and it was reasonably priced. So happy to have found Campus Book Rentals!
I will definitely be ordering again.
Rented a used book from them for my daughter. It was due 3 days ago. I did forget to mail it back which is my fault however they charged me 5 times the amount a used book costs and almost double a new book. States they will charge the difference of the rental and cost of item. Used book costs $31.40, rental costs $20.04. They charged my back account $179.14. Disgusting way to do business. Another thing when I place the order I never received any confirmation had to ask them the status of my order and was given a tracking number that day I don't think they would've sent it had I not reached out. They do not send you any emails at all, no order confirmation, no shipping details, no return reminder - nothing …. It's the way they do business to make themselves richer. They are thieves. Will be going to my bank first thing Monday morning and will take other reviews as well to show them they are crooks.
Ordered a book at the end of August, book shipped 5 days later and book was marked delivered a week later. So that is the time span you're looking at for free shipping. The textbook cost no more that $21 and it came in great condition.
BUT
The post office didn't deliver my package so that was the only drawback. I contacted the site, they were very responsive and even called me to offer advice and to send another book.
I did receive the book for a great price.
Not too happy. Books and prices were okay as well as customer service. But when I returned the book they said they received it late when I shipped it back 2 weeks before the due date and charged me 10 dollars for the extension that i never asked for. Email them and so far they are refunding me my money. Probably won't be renting from them for a while
I placed an order and even paid for fast shipping. Hadn't received it so I went on my account to check the shipping and turns out it had been cancelled. I was never alerted about this so I reached out to the customer service chat where I got the most unhelpful person ever. They said they cancelled because the shipping and billing addresses were different. Really? No website has ever given me a problem with that before. The chat "expert" also ignored any questions as to why they would treat customers this way to the point I thought it was a robot responding. Avoid this place at all costs.
I was looking to buy a new book but because of all the negative reviews, I decided to ask customer support to confirm it was in stock before ordering. Apparently they are unable to confirm stock until you have ordered, fortunately they "update their website with availability hourly." I have since ordered... it is not in stock, so now I have to wait for a week to get my money back (hopefully). What is the point in not knowing your own available stock, is it some bizarre banking scheme? (It is a $300 niche art book, there is no chance someone else ordered one while I was checking out)
I returned my book late and they charged me $116.00. They said I would be refunded my money and the last email they said their system showed everything was clear and the refund was due to their credit card processing company. And until the company resolved their problem, my refund would go through. They wont tell me what the problem is, it's my credit card, they had no problem charging me but now a refund seems to be swept under the rug. I have been trying to resolve this for a month now, and they never are available by phone. I would like to know why they won't communicate with me and continue this horrible customer service. Very bad customer service and making a profit keeping your credit card information to charge whatever they feel like charging. No record of any transactions in my account profile either. Don't Use Campusbookrentals.com RIP OFF
Poor customer service, poor punctuality, and the worst at communicating with customers. Their website got hacked, customer payment was compromised site wide, and they didnt reach out to anyone about their payments and card information being leaked until months after it happened, even though they were aware of the situation. They threatened to send me to collections 6 whole months after they claimed my book was overdue, just because the post office failed to deliver (which they tend to do) the textbook back to their warehouse.
Ordered 16 books for my students. They immediately charged me for 16. Six days later they canceled 15 of them, shipped 1, and only gave me refunds for 12. The same day as the refunds I had several fraudulent charges on my credit card, which had never happened before.
One star is far too many.
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. I returned a book to US post office 03.02.2020. I used the pre-printed label provided by CampusBookRentals, followed the instructions, bought insurance for mayhem. As of 03/31/2020 the book has not been received by CampusBookRentals. I've sent the tracking number showing the book was dropped off at the US Post Office on 03.02.2020. CampusBookRentals email responses- "You are responsible for the book. Because you have insurance you will only be responsible for 25% of the books price." I've demanded to have my situation review by a supervisor, they have not. Today is 03/31/2020. ***Use a book rental site that uses UPS, books returned within 5 business days**
The shipping times listed are ridiculous and misleading--USPS Media Mail takes 4-14 DAYS, period (not business days); I know this from working at a contract postal unit for 7 years. It's clear to me no items are on hand, because of the huge shipping delay. Essentially, you are ordering something they don't have in stock (because the "warehouse" is likely someone's living room, or does not exist at all) and waiting for it to be shipped to them via Media Mail, and then they ship it to you-- that's why their "expedited" shipping (for an additional charge, of course) is 5-8 business days!
Seriously, if you can wait three and a half weeks for a textbook, buy from them. If you think that's absurd and would like your book(s) before the end of the semester, cut out the middleman BS and order straight from amazon.
I rented a book from them. I had to extend the due date once. Then I forgot when it was due. They don't remind you or let you know due date is coming up. Instead they immediately charge you. Don't get me wrong. I messed up. I was over the time but they set it up so that you fail. That's the business model. They would rather charge you. Getting the book back is not what they want. That's why they're cheaper. They'll make it up on the back end. Stay away from this company. Loan sharks are nicer
I wanted to save some money renting from them instead of Chegg.com. Not worth it.
To begin, they didn't send me any type of email confirming that my book was shipped or a tracking number.
Then, not knowing where my book was, I called them on Feb 1st to know where my book was, they told me it was supposed to arrive on Feb 4th.
On Feb 5th I called them again to know where the heck my book was, and then they told me book was delivered, on the post office, Feb 1st.
Amateurs, never going to do business with them again.
Item ordered specifically stated it included an access code and since it is required for the course i ordered it. Then when I didn't get the access code I assumed someone forgot to put the card in the package. That was not the case. It is advertised that it comes with the code but they state they don't guarantee the access codes and therefore they will not provide it. If it does not come with the code... they why advertise it with the code? Oh that's right... bait and switch tactics. FTC complaint filed.
I returned a rental book from them a month before the return date and they received it before the return date. But they still charged me saying they didn't get the book. Do not rent books from them, do not give them your money because they will take more of your money.
I received the textbook fast and in great condition, not to mention it was cheap. However upon returning the book, I was told they hadn't received it and they automatically took over $100 out of my account. I ended up tracking the book, finding out that it was delivered and sent them all of the info. They still refused to give me a refund even though I had all the proof that it was shipped and returned. The customer service is terrible and they do little to help you. All they try to do is scam you out of money.
I ordered through them last semester, my textbook came extremely late. I was fine with that and promptly returned the book using the credentials found on my account. They sent me an email that I returned the wrong book, which was clearly incorrect because it was the only book I ordered through them. It was obviously a misunderstanding on their end because I used their prepaid label. Several months pass and they are trying to send me to collections because I violated their terms by not returning the book, B U LL S H I T. I have since sent them a dispute online, so lets see how this goes... DO NOT RECOMMEND. AT ALL.
The textbook I needed was $90 new or $60 used, I didnt have that kind of money so looked for an alternative. Randomly came on to this site and saw my book for less then $20, that should have been my red flag. I was so happy to get a deal on my book so I immediately placed my order. I needed my book by next week before Wednesday so placed my order on Thursday the week prior, I even put in $15 for faster shipping just in case! $15 was the 2-3 day option so I thought the package would hopefully come by on Saturday. I still had hope thinking it would be here by Monday, so here I am, Monday and still no book! I even checked my tracking and it said that it would be here TODAY. I urgently need the book now and Im not even sure if Amazon Prime will have my book by tomorrow. This website has given me so much stress and its not worth even if you think youre saving money!
