What was I thinking?
Why did I send my targa top out of town to this guy to be refurbished? It might have been the nice web site. Or his confident manner - he might have been right in his claims or he may have been wrong but he was never unsure! Perhaps that drew me in when it should've made me suspicious.
I sent my targa top to him for review and went with his recommended Full Restoration. Paid to ship to him. When he received my payment he began to work on it and returned it as promised. I followed his instructions for installing it.
Only issue is that the air noise was so loud when I drove it I initially thought it wasn't locked down! It was quieter driving with the top off than with the top on. All our conversations ended with a deflected reason on his end or a projected cause due to my car. It never focused on the solution which came when I took it to a local refurbisher I later learned about. He needed to tighten the fabric, orient the bead downward toward the channel and slightly bend the top sheeting. All dealing with the top, not the car.
I think I maybe I might've been able to force him to stand behind his work had I been able to take it there to prove my issue to him because he definitely was not taking my word for it. I ended up wasting a compete driving season on this, spent money for shipping and had to get it ultimately repaired for more money.
If you can't drive there definitely don't take it there.
Tip for consumers:
Get your targa top refurbished with a local shop. No need to ship it off.
