My 17-year-old daughter was excited about getting a second ear piercing done so she called Certified Tattoo. On that call she asked what she would need to bring with her to get the piercing. Certified Tattoo stated that since she was under the age of 18 that a parent with a form of identification (drivers license, Passport, etc.) would have to come with her and that the parent would also have to show an original birth certificate. My daughter specifically asked if they would need to make and retain a copy of her birth certificate. Certified Tattoo stated they would not need a copy of my daughter's birth certificate. My daughter got online and prepaid $180 for an appointment that same day. When we arrived at Certified Tattoo, they stated they would need a copy of my daughter's birth certificate in order to get her ear pierced. I informed them that with a copy of my daughter's birth certificate anyone could assume her identity and asked what security measures they had in place to preclude any such fraud. They stated that they did not have any. I informed Certified Tattoo that they specifically stated on the phone that they did not require a copy of my daughter's birth certificate and that my daughter would like a refund of the $180. Certified Tattoo stated they needed to contact a manager. After calling Certified Tattoo several more times about the refund for the service my daughter never received, we filed a dispute with her debit card company. To date Certified Tattoo has not refunded any of my 17-year-old daughters hard earned money and they are currently contesting the dispute.
