I ordered a waistcoat from Chaps of London that was advertised with an adjustable back strap, but the item I received was not as described. This is a clear breach of the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Refused to provide a UK return address (despite being a UK-registered company).
Forced me to return the item to China at my expense, which is illegal under UK law. Would cost me over 60 GBP for a 30 GBP item. This is not stated in their returns policy. They state it is to be returned at buyers cost, but not that it will need to go to China. They ask to send an email to them if you wish to return an item, but not the process.
They repeatedly tried to avoid a refund via email, offering 15%, 20%, and 25% refunds instead of processing a full refund as legally required. They also insisted on photos of the items before engaging.
To me, they appear like a dubiously operated drop-shipping company from China, not a company with any physical connection to London at all, hence why they can't accept returns to a UK site.
Ended up having to file a chargeback to get my money back.
Will donate the item to charity.
I am filing complaints with Trading Standards and ASA. If you've been misled too, report them.
I had to send multiple emails before discovering the return address was in China. I was offered 10-25% refunds without returning the goods. Good were not as described and useless to me.
