Connections academy has been a life saver. My son isn't the best student, and school definitely isn't his favorite thing, but his teachers have been the best. They have encouraged him along the way and have been there for me every time I needed them. Thanks!
I love it. I've started homeschooling my eighth grader half way through the school year for multiple reasons. I understand some of the negative reviews but some of it sounds like complaining and excuses for not succeeding. Some of the work is hard and some is super easy, just like in public school. Homeschool is not supposed to be an easy way out. You can do it as long as you stay on top of your schedule and correspond with your child's teacher on a regular basis, like you would in a public school setting. You have to be organized so assignments don't pile up, and show your child the best way to navigate the system for them. If you and your child are not focused on the education, problems would arise, I''m sure of it. Now my daughter is thriving and our relationship has gotten closer because of North Carolina Connections Academy. I would would recommend to anyone.
Connections Academy has been a perfect fit for our family. My 7th grader is doing much better with the virtual format versus the physical format. The teachers are very responsive and the applications are easy to navigate.
Hi Sara, We understand that not all students learn the same and that some excel in an online environment. We're happy to hear that your student has been able to thrive at our school! ~Alexis
My son is 5th grade special education and his education here is amazing! His reading jumped two grade levels in the span of 7 months. He doesn't miss any school for all of his doctors appointments being a kidney transplant kid. I also have a 9th grader. It took us while to get a good Homeroom teacher (3 minutes old ones). Her new one is amazing! She is way head of her friends in our brick and mortar school here.
Hi Sarah, Thank you for taking the time to leave this review! We love that we have been able to provide the flexibility your son needs. We're also happy to hear that your daughter's new homeroom teacher is so great! We wish you and your family continued success. ~Alexis
We really like it. Yes it is a lot of work and parents do need to be actively involved with lessons, but theyre much further along than he was in traditional school. Its a temporary choice for us but its definitely one I feel good about. Am I tired? Yes. Is my kid getting a good eduction? Absolutely.
Thank you for the acceptance of my son, thank you to all the teachers, they are excellent and very dedicated and are always attentive to the student, thank you for directing and guiding me in my difficult moments and when I did not know what to do there was always someone who helped me. I could guide...
This is such a heartfelt review, Maria. We're so happy to have been able to provide you and your son with an education option that allows him to reach his full potential. ~Alexis
My son has needs lots of extra help plus small group time. The staff and his case manger are awesome and are always there to help my son and the teachers have time 4 days a week open when you can schedule extra time for help one on one time as well...
We love hearing that your son has been getting the support he needs from his teachers! Thank you for sharing, Sherrie! ~Alexis
My daughter is beginning her senior year with Calif CA. She started at CCA mid sophomore year, after struggling with sleep deprivation, anxiety and working within her classes' time frame.
She thought a lot about going back to her huge high school so she could do all the senior stuff with the kids she grew up with, but the benefits of the online learning were greater.
She loves being able to do the work at whatever time each day. If she sleeps till 11:00, and starts work at 4:00 pm, that's fine! It is a lot of work, probably more than the regular high school, but she loves the style of learning.
Any time we have needed anything the teachers and staff have been fantastic. We have learned the importance of establishing a report with them through emails and occasional phone calls.
My daughter's grades are all A's and B's now. She knows what she has to do and gets it done. She is picking out colleges to apply to, and feeling positive about school thanks to this great program.
All these other kids complaining must not work a lot. I'm about 3 months ahead of everyone else in my local school because I spend a lot of time working on my lessons and work on the weekends. If you put in the time and effort, its really not that hard. Thanks to this school I'm going to be able to have an associates degree before I even graduate highschool. You just have to actually be motivated enough to do it yourself and actually spend time working ahead and you'll be fine. Since I work through everything a lot quicker, I normally do a lesson or two a day then have time to do whatever I please. If you don't put in the effort, your going to hate it but if your willing to actually work, it's a great school!
I have been going to this school for 3 years now, and I love it! The teachers are amazing! I was skeptical about going to this school, but I am so glad that I'm attending! Thank you ConnectionsAcademy!
Answer: Work at your own pace is the biggest lie out there. Supplies are usually quick to arrive though.
Answer: That is a very good question Dee. We were drawn in with that promise as well. They use exampmes of child athletes and child actors (at least they did when we were going through their website looking for schooling options) as examples of how flexible their program is but we found it to be a very different experience.
Answer: Do not put your child in this program i hate it i switched to connexus i could get more time in the gym and work out i used to spend five hours in the gym in normal school but now im only limited to one hour a day because i have so much work.the teachers never respond and its horrible they dont help me and when im at gym they call then i cant i pick up so they call my parents who are at work and will get in trouble if on there phones. I hate tis school and everyone in it and your kids will to so DO NOT DO IT! 1111
Answer: Attendance is more important to the school keeping it's Charter, than making sure a student is truly on track academically. The School has no communication skills, which is why it probably attracts lazy teachers.
Answer: I find that people take the time to vent about bad experiences rather than take the time to write reviews for good experiences. If things are working, why scour the internet for reviews. Every kiddo/parent will have a different experience with Connections Academy. Like any school program, it's not going to be right for everyone, not everyone will like a teacher, or administration or class... It's a rigorous school, not a homeschool program with lots of flexibility and curriculum that can be changed. It's working for my 7th grader, but it is hard and we wouldn't be enrolled if he didn't have me to sit by him 80% of the time. Otherwise he's getting an excellent education in Oregon and we love the teachers.
Answer: Yes, you can do you your at any time. I start at 5:00am and finish at 11:00am.
Answer: Maybe once a month. The student might get a phone call from his or her homeroom teacher on a monthly basis. Other than that, unless you or the student contact the teacher individually, then the interaction is done as a whole in the Live Lesson rooms. And so much outside stuff goes on during Live Lessons, the students do not get a lot out of them.
Answer: Hi Tina, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per day), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. Outside of the LiveLesson sessions, work is done independently, and students can typically complete their schoolwork any time of the day, any day of the week. ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Malorie, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per week), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. In general, there is no set time to log in outside of the LiveLesson sessions, so students can typically work any time of the day, any day of the week.
