I've been going to Connections (ARCA) for 3-4 years now, I'm in 9th-grade rn. The school is more worried about passing than anything else, they claim they care SO MUCH about the students, but they do not. If they did, they'd address the concerns that I brought up and not completely ignore them. They do not care about the students. I realized most reviews were made by parents, not students. Is it helpful to other parents? Yes, it is! But you need to also look at how the student feels. Most students I met (which was not a lot, because this school doesn't care about social interactions.) Does not like this school, most cheat because this school throws so much stuff at you. Lessons have many grammar errors, and the questions can be wrong, confusing, or have more than one correct answer, but you have to pick one answer anyway. If this school did what they claimed, I wouldn't be here. As a student with learning problems, I feel like the school does not care about me and many other students. They expect everyone to learn the same way. So if I had to say, this school NEEDS to be fixed and NEEDS to change for the better. I am going to leave after this year is over.
Edit: I want to add this. It matters from school to school. ARCA isn't good, no social interaction, no talking, nothing. At the time of making this, I was trying to do my work, but I needed to stop, there is just so much work. The weird thing is, I like reading, but for learning it's a no-go. I'm better off learning from someone talking to me, the normal school that I'm going to next year is good. No bullying, most people are nice, and it's in a really good area. If you are not good with in-person learning, your local public school is really bad, or you like being by yourself a lot, this school would be okay for you. It's just not for me. I felt like I needed to add this, so if you're fine with the stuff I said, then the school wouldn't be bad for you.
The overall reputation of Connections Academy reflects a strong commitment to personalized education, with many customers praising the supportive and responsive nature of the staff and teachers. Parents frequently highlight the positive impact on their children's learning experiences, particularly for those with special needs or who struggled in traditional settings. However, some reviews reveal significant concerns regarding communication issues and unprofessional handling of enrollment processes, which have caused distress for certain families. While the majority of feedback is favorable, addressing these service-related shortcomings could enhance the overall customer experience and trust in the institution.

Homeschooling might not work for everyone however, we have had a fantastic experience with Florida Connections Academy. The teachers and staff are great and they act fast when you need something from them. The lessons are just about right for my learner and interactive. No plans of returning back to a brick-and-mortar school considering our amazing moments with FCA. We have all the control over her lesson time and if you are lucky that your learner doesn't need too much of your time, just like mine, bonus point!
Our experience with Connections Academy has been nothing less than a dream come true! From the very first phone call, to almost the end of our first year has been amazing. Everyone is kind, supportive, helpful, and there when you need them. The teachers go out of their way to make sure your child's needs are met and they are successful. Homeschooling keeps my child safe, and allows her the freedom to build connections and create friendships in the setting of our home. I would recommend this school to all parents! It has been a blessing! Thank you Connections!
We're so happy that we've been able to help provide your student with a safe learning environment, Katie! Thank you for your review! ~Alexis
My two daughters have been enrolled (6th & 8th grade) since Sept. 2016, and they both love it. Yes, the workload is high, but it's possible to have flexibility if taking off and catching up during weekends and other holidays. Even if the amount of work is high but students soon catch up with the rhythm and know what is expected of them. Connecting with teachers is super easy too, again it's a matter of habit to pick up the phone or email them when we need something; they are very responsive. I haven't had any issues and both our daughters love it.
The best part of Connection Academy by far are some of the teachers, one in particular is Scott Collins.my son is a student of his.
You could not ask for a better teacher to work with your child he just makes it easy. The kids love him and he is an overall amazing person. If it wasn't for Scott I don't know how things would be for my child that faces some speech challenges. I am so glad we've had the opportunity to work with Scott. I'm so grateful and appreciative.
Thank you for your kind words, Patty! We're so happy to hear that Mr. Collins has had such a positive impact on your student's education. ~Alexis
My sophomore has a better GPA since starting than she had in years. The teachers are very accessible and compassionate. These instructors clearly love what they do and are very invested in my child's success. It feels wonderful to have such a great team on her side, finally.
This makes us so happy to see, Jessica! We're so proud of your student for increasing their GPA! ~Alexis
We were hesitant at first to enroll in this school, but we decided to give it a try. In fact, we were shocked by the amount of organization and attention on the part of the administrators and teachers, who provided us with the necessary assistance. My child now had enough time to learn and be disciplined with school schedules. Which made his life much easier. The program is easy to use and there are continuous trainings for parents, which makes the work easy, and that will help the students to achieve their goals. Thanks to everyone who participated to create this amazing school program.
We're thrilled to hear that we've exceeded your expectations, Hadda! We hope you have an amazing rest of the school year! ~Alexis
This was defiantly not for my son... He ended up so depressed and hated it. Always confused and we always had issues with the lessons and no one would help or get back with you in a timely manner. This was a big mistake and I'm so glad he's back in regular school he's so happy and actually is having fun now!
My son was behind in public school and couldn't get enough time with teachers and little one on one. When he did it was with little results that stuck. He struggled with math and writing papers. At Ohio Connections Academy there are several EXCELLENT Math, Science, and English support options and effective supplementary computer programs! They have made a huge change in my sons education and confidence. I am not good at teaching writing or math so the additional help was a huge help. My son went from a D to B in one quarter and maintained it. Thank you for putting such an effective program together. My son actually likes going to school, likes his teachers, and his grades and education has consistently improved in Math, Science, and English. This is our 3rd year and we're staying.
You’ve made our day, Sharon. There’s nothing we like to hear about more than a student who has rediscovered enthusiasm for learning. Tell your son to keep up that amazing work. We’re proud of him! ~Kim
My son is high functioning autistic and his attitude, interest and success rate within his education has done a complete 180 after switching to connections Academy! His grades have never been better as well as his self confidence! I appreciate the time and effort that is being put into my son's education and we are here to stay through graduation! Hands down best decision we couf have made
This is so great to see, Kylie! We're so happy to hear that you've found a school that meets the needs of your son and allows him to reach his full potential! Thank you for sharing! ~Alexis
My son would get bored in other schools because he did not need a lot of verbal instructions as he prefer to read and work independently. Sometimes I wake up at 5am to find him reading the lesson for the day. My son is in the Gifted and Talented Program which he was already in before he enrolled in Connections Academy so we saw no decline in grades or enthusiasm.
Hi Mildred, We're so happy that you have found a school that works for your independent learner! We hope he continues to excel here! ~Alexis
Our experience with MNCA has been an amazing one that will have us continuing next year. Mrs. Werner has gone above and beyond everyday to help with any struggles or questions we've had and has made this year one of the best, as my daughter also says, and she hopes that she will have more great years. Not only have we received help when needed but Mrs. Werner has made it fun, exciting, and enjoyable even when it was challenging. Everyday my daughter looks forward to Live Lesson because she loves the positivity, equal participation, and the familiar structure. We've had a great year and also recommended MNCA to many of our friends as well. I highly rate Mrs. Werner as being an outstanding teacher!
Hi Sarah, Thank you so much for leaving your review! We love hearing that teachers like Mrs. Werner are having such a positive impact on their students. We hope that you and your daughter have a great rest of the school year and enjoy your summers! ~Alexis
This was our first year with SCCA and let me tell you, what an amazing experience we have had. My family loves the program and being able to go on these field trips every few months to interact with other students. There is so many opportunities with SCCA! We've had an amazing year!
We're so happy to hear that your family has taken advantage of the socialization opportunities that South Carolina Connections Academy offers, Tiffany! We hope you have an amazing summer! ~Alexis
I would spend over 12 hours a day with my kid on assignments and was never ending. And never caught up. Some of the answers in Math were completely wrong. Imagine math is stupid. We spend over 50 hrs on it and it states we only completed 1 percent. A waste of time. I regret enrolling with the program, it's a big burden especially for young children to be expected. Especially when when assignments don't stop piling up. I don't see why the teachers don't reach out? I'm pretty much homeschooling my kid and someone is getting paid for it and giving them grades.
Hi Mike, I'm so sorry that you aren't getting the support that you need from your students' teachers. We do recognize that our school requires more parental involvement than a traditional brick-and-mortar school, but the teachers are the primary educators. Can you please send us an email at community@connectionsacademy.com with the email address used to set up your account or the first and last name of your students so we can have a staff member reach out to assist? ~Alexis
My student is in 9th grade right now. He has trouble focusing and without connections Academy I don't think he would have stayed with his own age/grade range. The curriculum is sometimes a bit in depth, but for the most part, it is definitely doable. I also like the flexibility it gives with time to get lessons finished and being able to finish lessons ahead of time when needed. They also give plenty of time to catch up on overdue lessons.
We love that your student is thriving with Connections Academy, Jennifer! Thank you for sharing! ~Alexis
My son's teacher lost his math test at least 5 times now and she keeps on telling him to retake it, and the teachers lack communication with each other, causing my son to fail his class. So I'm planning on pulling him out of connexus all together
My son struggled in traditional public school. He was having difficulty keeping up with in class lessons and due to class sizes, his teachers often did not have time to repeat themselves or work with him one on one. He has always been a C or D student. Switching to Connections Academy has been the best decision I've ever made for him. He's now able to work at his own pace, live lessons aren't overwhelming and allow him ample breaks in between classes to regroup, and his teachers are available for one on one help if he needs it. He has been an A and B student this entire semester and even retains the information he has learned. I am so thankful we found this academic community and we are excited for the next school year.
We never like to hear that students struggle with their schoolwork, but we love that your son has been able to learn in an environment that allows him to reach his full potential! Thank you for sharing, Samantha! ~Alexis
The 2020 school year started with so much uncertainty that I didn't have high expectations that our district could scramble to keep up with hybrid/virtual/in person and variations of them all. A couple of my daughter's (3rd grade) classmates were doing Connections Academy and I figured that it would be a more seamless year for her if we did that too. It has far exceeded my expectations. The curriculum is presented in a very thoughtful way that let's us communicate on a wide variety of subjects. The way that the program is designed makes it easy to keep up, work ahead, and work on our schedule. My daughter is in gifted and the project was great. The teachers communicate well and take time to get to know students. I'm strongly considering continuing through elementary school because my daughter has been able to learn so much more than in a brick and mortar school where there is no opportunity to work ahead or explore subjects at this depth.
Hi Carmen! Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are so happy to hear that your student is thriving at Connections Academy. Have a great school year! ~Regina
I have two students that were straight A and B students, Now they're failing because this school wont grade work on time and they do not Participate in anyway to help the students. My daughter was in Beta Club and now she is failing. I'm really considering placing them back in regular school. I'm starting to dislike this school. I forgot to mention how much hard work they give kindergarden students, its ridiculous My 3 children are suffering all because of these lazy $#*! teachers.
Hi Robbie, I'm so sorry for the late response. Our goal is to provide a high-quality education to all of our students and I'm sorry that hasn't been your experience. Can you please send us an email at community@connectionsacademy.com so we can locate your account and have someone reach out to address your concerns? Thank you. ~Alexis
Be careful of this school! Lots of technology problems and very little communication between the different departments. My son loses submitted lessons on a daily basis, which means wait on them to restore them, which they cannot do - or redo them! Puts him further and further behind and discourages his grades. Mark Reider is an awesome teacher there - one of the few that is dedicated and works to help in any way. So grateful we had him this year. But we can't get acknowledgement of the problem from anyone else there or any real help getting it fixed. The principal of the Arkansas school is completely out of touch with what is happening, and the IT department is nonexistent, unfortunately. The association of Arkansas Charter Schools says there is nothing they can do to help! This is where our tax dollars are going, Arkansas!
From before school started to right this very moment my experience with Maine Connections Academy has been excellent. The communication between staff and student as well as staff and parent/caretaker is extraordinary. I've NEVER been so informed before, from absences to information on my child's work and grades. I am impressed about the fact that I have to submit work and attendance is also reported by the parent. Every step of the process is amazing. Our counselor and teachers are great, informative and caring.
We're so happy to hear that you feel informed at Maine Connections Academy, Faylene! Thank you for your review! ~Alexis
Answer: Work at your own pace is the biggest lie out there. Supplies are usually quick to arrive though.
Answer: That is a very good question Dee. We were drawn in with that promise as well. They use exampmes of child athletes and child actors (at least they did when we were going through their website looking for schooling options) as examples of how flexible their program is but we found it to be a very different experience.
Answer: Do not put your child in this program i hate it i switched to connexus i could get more time in the gym and work out i used to spend five hours in the gym in normal school but now im only limited to one hour a day because i have so much work.the teachers never respond and its horrible they dont help me and when im at gym they call then i cant i pick up so they call my parents who are at work and will get in trouble if on there phones. I hate tis school and everyone in it and your kids will to so DO NOT DO IT! 1111
Answer: Attendance is more important to the school keeping it's Charter, than making sure a student is truly on track academically. The School has no communication skills, which is why it probably attracts lazy teachers.
Answer: I find that people take the time to vent about bad experiences rather than take the time to write reviews for good experiences. If things are working, why scour the internet for reviews. Every kiddo/parent will have a different experience with Connections Academy. Like any school program, it's not going to be right for everyone, not everyone will like a teacher, or administration or class... It's a rigorous school, not a homeschool program with lots of flexibility and curriculum that can be changed. It's working for my 7th grader, but it is hard and we wouldn't be enrolled if he didn't have me to sit by him 80% of the time. Otherwise he's getting an excellent education in Oregon and we love the teachers.
Answer: Yes, you can do you your at any time. I start at 5:00am and finish at 11:00am.
Answer: Maybe once a month. The student might get a phone call from his or her homeroom teacher on a monthly basis. Other than that, unless you or the student contact the teacher individually, then the interaction is done as a whole in the Live Lesson rooms. And so much outside stuff goes on during Live Lessons, the students do not get a lot out of them.
Answer: Hi Tina, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per day), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. Outside of the LiveLesson sessions, work is done independently, and students can typically complete their schoolwork any time of the day, any day of the week. ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Malorie, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per week), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. In general, there is no set time to log in outside of the LiveLesson sessions, so students can typically work any time of the day, any day of the week. For information specific to the school(s) in your state, please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com. Thanks! ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Monique, Many students with special needs thrive in online school. Can you please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com so we can connect you with the Special Education team in your state and also provide you with additional eligibility information about the school(s) in your state? Thank you! ~Alexis
Hi Aleli. Thank you so much for your kind feedback! Happy holidays! ~Bri
