Very good, the teachers are very kind. And my daughter has more time to do different activities besides the school.
As I said great staff the star of the staff is Dorothy Larson they need more just like not only is she my son's teacher but now our family friend!
HI Donovan. Thanks for the shout out to Dorothy! We
With multiple students, it would be very helpful if correspondence reflected which child it is for. I get so many, and never know who it is for.
Hi Debbie, We're sorry to hear that our communication hasn't been clear! Can you please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com with more details so we can have someone from the school reach out? I tried to connect with you privately but did not hear back. Thank you! ~Alexis
I absolutely love this school. My daughter had a biology teacher at her traditional high school who was not a good fit for her. While I would normally force her to work it out with the teacher, in this instance it wasn't worth the anxiety.
I pulled her out of that class only and enrolled her at CA. Her new Biology teacher was interested in her as a learner, was willing to individualize the curriculum needs to include what she had missed in traditional school, and was a complete professional, keeping in touch with both my daughter and myself as her learning coach.
I understand the frustration that a student might feel if they think they can work at their own pace, but it simply is only true to a point. If the school year ends on June 4, the student HAS to be done by June 4! I'm not sure why they would think that "at your own pace" means you can take as long as you want to. My daughter traveled a bit and missed about a week of school, but because she had worked ahead, she didn't fall terribly far behind. She was able to complete her late lessons at her own pace (again, within reason) to catch up and finish the class on time.
My daughter gets A's, B's and C's in traditional school and as expected, earned a B in Connections Biology. More importantly, she learned a LOT more than she would have with her traditional teacher.
IF you are willing to take personal responsibility for your education as a student, and if you are a good reader and have a good support system at home, this could very well be a GREAT opportunity for you. Parents: Keep in mind that you are expected to partner with your child's teachers as a learning coach to help keep them on track. If you don't have time to monitor each day what they are doing and where they are going on the computer, then this is probably not a good option for you!
It's a great experience. We have enjoyed the Connections academy experience and would recommend the program to anyone.
Thank you for the recommendation, Cynthia! ~Alexis
This is our first year at connections Academy and we love that our daughter is above to get an education and still do what she love to do(dance)
Hi Tammy, We love to hear that our students are able to pursue their passions while enrolled at our schools! ~Alexis
Excellent Teachers, always there to help when needed. Excellent learning platform. Just an all around excellent school.
Thank you for the 5-star rating, Giselle! ~Alexis
I've been going to Connections (ARCA) for 3-4 years now, I'm in 9th-grade rn. The school is more worried about passing than anything else, they claim they care SO MUCH about the students, but they do not. If they did, they'd address the concerns that I brought up and not completely ignore them. They do not care about the students. I realized most reviews were made by parents, not students. Is it helpful to other parents? Yes, it is! But you need to also look at how the student feels. Most students I met (which was not a lot, because this school doesn't care about social interactions.) Does not like this school, most cheat because this school throws so much stuff at you. Lessons have many grammar errors, and the questions can be wrong, confusing, or have more than one correct answer, but you have to pick one answer anyway. If this school did what they claimed, I wouldn't be here. As a student with learning problems, I feel like the school does not care about me and many other students. They expect everyone to learn the same way. So if I had to say, this school NEEDS to be fixed and NEEDS to change for the better. I am going to leave after this year is over.
Edit: I want to add this. It matters from school to school. ARCA isn't good, no social interaction, no talking, nothing. At the time of making this, I was trying to do my work, but I needed to stop, there is just so much work. The weird thing is, I like reading, but for learning it's a no-go. I'm better off learning from someone talking to me, the normal school that I'm going to next year is good. No bullying, most people are nice, and it's in a really good area. If you are not good with in-person learning, your local public school is really bad, or you like being by yourself a lot, this school would be okay for you. It's just not for me. I felt like I needed to add this, so if you're fine with the stuff I said, then the school wouldn't be bad for you.
I'm a student at Connections academy and it's my first year and it's honestly great! I'm passing all my classes and the teachers are very helpful
The staff goes above and beyond to help the students. They are always there to provide support and encouragement.
Hi Tresa, We are so happy to hear that our teachers have been able to support and encourage your students. Thank you for taking the time to leave your review! ~Alexis
Answer: Work at your own pace is the biggest lie out there. Supplies are usually quick to arrive though.
Answer: That is a very good question Dee. We were drawn in with that promise as well. They use exampmes of child athletes and child actors (at least they did when we were going through their website looking for schooling options) as examples of how flexible their program is but we found it to be a very different experience.
Answer: Do not put your child in this program i hate it i switched to connexus i could get more time in the gym and work out i used to spend five hours in the gym in normal school but now im only limited to one hour a day because i have so much work.the teachers never respond and its horrible they dont help me and when im at gym they call then i cant i pick up so they call my parents who are at work and will get in trouble if on there phones. I hate tis school and everyone in it and your kids will to so DO NOT DO IT! 1111
Answer: Attendance is more important to the school keeping it's Charter, than making sure a student is truly on track academically. The School has no communication skills, which is why it probably attracts lazy teachers.
Answer: I find that people take the time to vent about bad experiences rather than take the time to write reviews for good experiences. If things are working, why scour the internet for reviews. Every kiddo/parent will have a different experience with Connections Academy. Like any school program, it's not going to be right for everyone, not everyone will like a teacher, or administration or class... It's a rigorous school, not a homeschool program with lots of flexibility and curriculum that can be changed. It's working for my 7th grader, but it is hard and we wouldn't be enrolled if he didn't have me to sit by him 80% of the time. Otherwise he's getting an excellent education in Oregon and we love the teachers.
Answer: Yes, you can do you your at any time. I start at 5:00am and finish at 11:00am.
Answer: Maybe once a month. The student might get a phone call from his or her homeroom teacher on a monthly basis. Other than that, unless you or the student contact the teacher individually, then the interaction is done as a whole in the Live Lesson rooms. And so much outside stuff goes on during Live Lessons, the students do not get a lot out of them.
Answer: Hi Tina, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per day), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. Outside of the LiveLesson sessions, work is done independently, and students can typically complete their schoolwork any time of the day, any day of the week. ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Malorie, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per week), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. In general, there is no set time to log in outside of the LiveLesson sessions, so students can typically work any time of the day, any day of the week.
