“Dell Ain't Dull”

ClarkKent K.

I am in love with Dell, and everything that Big Mike touches. It would be very hard for me to say anything negative about their website. The only thing I can advice is that they give it a more store-like format, and less of a PR medium. Other than that, it's all good.

“Really Horrible Experience -- Very Terrible Customer Service from Unknowledgeable Workers”

Dianne B.
8/22/24

I called to get information on where to access an invitation for friends/family which was super confusing, to begin with. The Dell employees are terrible at their job and do their best to try to confuse and obfuscate the correct answer. They were quick to point out that my computer was purchased two years ago. Don't they realize we have other options? Very poor management team who allows this bad service to go on. Just look at all the one star reviews.

My dell g3 3590 was almost a thousand dollars. It is such a cheaply made piece of junk, if you press just a single key the keyboard flexed and since new the enire thing would creak and squeak, and was very flimsy. Then the super fragile junk hinge broke. I called dell warranty to have it fixed and i sent it in for repair but their computer system is garbage so the repair case is open but the warranty service got canceled and this all happened within the last weeks of warranty. Dell wants me to resend them the laptop in a new box and label but fed ex has it. They told me to call fed ex to have it returned to the office. I called fed ex and only dell is allowed to return it to me since dell restricted it. I called dell perfectly explaining everything and they have no idea what to do and they transferred me in a full circle around their "customer support" or lack thereof. By the time i get it back so i can resend it the warranty would've expired which is what i know they planned for. I was on the line waiting for almost an hour on hold and they just hung up. Don't ever buy a dell, such an expensive piece of cheap junk with zero warranty support. Negative 10 stars is a generous rating.

Well... I used to love Dell... not anymore... Dell sucks!.
I had to replace the hard drive on my Dell laptop... it died.
I called Dell to get a recovery CD and for the OS and drivers... and I was told... the system is out of warranty... nothing they can do... and I was even told look on EBay.
This is ridiculous, expecially because to save $ 0.10 DELL does not include a recovery CD with a new system, so if the crappy hard drive installed dies... YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK ( and will have to buy a NEW Windows operating system from Microsoft).
If you are in the market for a new laptop. KEEP THIS IN MIND!
In the last 2 years I have had the same scenario with an HP laptop ( even older then my DELL), and a 7 years old FUJITSU tablet. And guess what... HP shipped the recovery CD, no charge, right away.
Fujitsu charged $ 15.00.
Well... atleast my machines were back in a working mode in no time.
Dell... just you do not cut it anymore... LEARN HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR CUSTOMERS!.
I am sure this is not what Michael Dell had in mind when he took back the company.
Just do not let DELL and any sales person bamboozle you... do your home work!... and keep this in mind!

Reliable products but most of them are overpriced. If you do not count every penny - its rather a good choice for a computer.

I wish I had seen some of the reviews before buying a laptop from Dell. I purchased my laptop in May, in October I started having screen issues, I sent my laptop in for repair, I was told it would be 10 business days and I would have my laptop returned. A week after sending my laptop I got an email saying they are experiencing delays and it may be another 10 days before my laptop could be returned. 3 weeks later I received a laptop back and it was not my laptop. I have been waiting for a week for them to come pick up a 7th graders laptop, that was sent in for repairs over a month ago. I know this because I found the owner on FB and have been communicating with her and Dell in hopes that they will send someone to pick up her laptop and return it to her, she is attending virtual school and using a loaner laptop awaiting the return of her laptop. No one seems to know where my laptop is or if it has been repaired. They keep telling me that someone will call me in 24-48 hours but no one has, I have to call them to get an update. If I could give - 5 stars I would. I have to select at least 1 star to post, which is way too.

I've owned multiple systems by Dell:

My first was a Dual Xeon Precision 670, which I bought used from eBay in 2008.
I put in an nVidia geForce 7950 GX2, a dual GPU video card.
That computer was awesome, big, heavy, noisy, would rip through any task, and use up 680 watts constantly. Was great for games too. Aside from high power consumption, it was great. I gave it to my dad, who runs it as home server, and loves it.
Then I had (and still have but don't use much) an XPS m1330 laptop, bought in 2009, it's still running fine, except I had to change the keyboard and the AC adapter under warranty (both failed within a year), but the customer service was great, so I am not holding any grudges. Please note they do service their XPS customers through a different department - so I can't comment about regular support.

I gotta say, Dell definitely made custom computers a perfection. Their site is well designed, and is easy to navigate. Customizing systems is fun and very informative. Lots of information per page, and clicking to get to information is minimized.

Their prices are very reasonable, and their promotions give insane discounts from time to time. As always you gotta do heavy performance to value research, but overall Dell is very very solid.

1. Dell took my money for a laptop and sleeve on 23 April but never started my order and didn't let me know so I only found out after the delivery date had passed.
2. When I contacted them they couldn't even find my order so I had to send them the payment details.
3. They asked me irrelevant details to "verify" my order and wouldn't proceed without them (e.g. "Are you in Australia?" and "What are you using it for?").
4. Because of their delays I now had only a week to receive the laptop before I left on a field trip but they didn't tell me whether they would deliver it or not.
5. They didn't deliver the device or bother to let me know so I cancelled the order and demanded a refund.
6. They only refunded one of the two payments they took when I ordered and had to ask me what the second payment was for, which was paid on 31 May, five weeks after the order.
7. The Customer Care person (Nandan Bhat) didn't speak English at all well ("In relation to the below request i understand on the below, However it the part of the verification, I you are not answering the system will not get released. Kindly reply it back to our sales team email so that we can release the Order.") and mostly sent scripted emails without consideration for the circumstances. Their supervisor, Hanuma Sri Achanta, ws no better.
8. No-one has offered an apology for the company's ongoing series of mistakes and inadequacy.

Received this laptop for a work computer. So far, I am completely satisfied with the look, speed, and functionality of the device. I would recommend.

Tip for consumers:
Basically it's a business class machine. For the price you really can't beat it though.

I ordered a Dell laptop in the US for a relative in Vietnam, and was unaware that without changing the owner of the laptop and basically re-registering the item for my relative, the warranty would be invalid in Vietnam (funny how a smaller company like Acer has international warranty). Anyway, fast forward 11 months and the laptop stopped working; the relative was told there was a problem with the hard drive, and it would cost almost as much as the laptop itself to repair it. I decided to request for a change in ownership, and did not receive any confirmation or notification about my request, even though I followed every step given by a Dell customer service representative. Near the end of the warranty, and about a month after my then repeated requests, I received an email from this person who supposedly works for Dell, and the only thing he said was "Would you like to extend your warranty?", which should be quite obvious that you'd have to pay some hefty amount.
Aside from the fact that this laptop broke within 11 months, the other one I bought is slow to the point of near uselessness, even though it was advertised to work smoothly with Windows 10. An XPS 13 I bought, while having a decent (not great) screen, is also slow and can in no way compete with an Apple laptop, which is what the XPS is built to compete with.
I'm happily using an Acer Aspire now, and it's been running consistently without any problem. This one time there was a small issue with the screen, and Acer offered to replace the whole screen for free, and even paid for the shipping label. That, I think, is a company you want to trust. Not Dell.

I purchased an Inspiron 16 2 in 1 7620 in February 2023. I loved it, light, sleek, comfortable and fast. A few months later(3) i began having issues with my touchpad. At first i messed around with sensitivity thinking that would solve the issue. By june it was a lagging nuisance. In july the issue escalated to where my touchpad would not work at all when powered on. It would work only after trying restart. This happens every time i turned the machine on.
I called Dell Tech support in july and after numerous troubleshooting steps they decided to replace my touchpad. The guy came to my home and quickly replaced the part, it work for a minute then stopped. The problem now continues into August. All that had happened before was fine things happen, they are always polite and seem to try to help
Since then however i have really been frustrated with Dell.
Their motto should be "we will get back to you in 24 to 48 hours". That is obviously what their phone techs are trained to advise the customer. If you hear that, good luck to you. I have had my issue escalated to whoever level 3 technicians are. Not sure if they truly exist as i have never spoken to them. They have escalated this issue twice to these mythical beings. After failing to hear back from them after 24-48 hours i would call about 4 or 5 days in to hear the same line or be told my escalation case has been closed. This last time due to a "tools" issue (yup your guess is a good as mine, i have no clue).
Man, i am too old, and too busy to keep after these people just to fix my machine. I currently have a very expensive touch screen.
Look, I can't recommend anyone getting stuck like i am with this company. You have way too many options out there.

I had one order that was sent back because they just couldn't reach me over the phone once! I contacted their chat for no reason cause all they do is send you to their verification team. After waiting for an hour on hold got to talk to a representative and he was close to helpless and finally understood that I did not want a product that had taken a week and a half just for me to know that it wasn't coming. When he said that I was gonna get a refund after a week I was kind of relieved but after 9 days I tried to contact their verification team twice waiting for an hour each time with no luck so I can receive a refund for a product THAT I NEVER SAW. Unacceptable that a multi-million company has this lousy customer service and so much trouble just to get a product that was bought, no returns no repairs just a simple transaction. I advise everyone to stay away from the dell website if you like their products consider a reseller but personally I'll never buy their stuff ever again. This is my info in case a Dell representative reads reviews(I doubt it)

First, I have been a customer of Dell for at least 20 years, have their credit card for 18 years and have purchased numerous laptops directly from them over the years. I recently purchased a new Dell monitor to use as a second monitor for my Dell laptop, but the cable that came with it came with would not work with my laptop. I contacted tech support, and was told that they would need to charge me for tech support, so I called their sales department that offered me a different cable that I purchased directly from. The new cable didn't work either and once again I was refused tech support for the new Dell monitor and new cable I purchased directly from them, so I contacted the BBB. Then Dell contacts me, I return the monitor and re-order a new one and they were supposed to offer me the tech support I need to install the monitor. I was told to purchase a different new cable than the last time directly from them, and that cable did not work either, so I was told to take my new Dell monitor with the new cable I purchased from them and bring it to Geek Squad (or similar) to troubleshoot... REALLY! My BBB complaint remains unresolved at this time.

I bought a new Alienware computer from them less than a year ago. I can't stress this enough, but NEVER BUY ALIENWARE PRODUCTS AGAIN! From the start it has been having problems. While playing games, suddenly all USB ports will become unrecognized. Given most gaming peripherals use USB this makes my gaming PC pretty much useless.

I've opened 8 support requests spanning nearly 3 months with them and had zero luck. They've had me
1. Reinstall windows 3 times
2. Pack up my desktop and fedex it half way across the country only for them to claim my upgraded graphics card was the issue, even though I told them before shipping that I could replace the upgraded card with the factory one since I was seeing an issue either way, but they said there was no need for me to replace that.
3. After putting in the original card and reproducing the issue then they had one technician come out to my place. However they also didn't work on it because I had an extra hard drive attached (again made it clear beforehand that I had an extra hard drive).
4. Removed the hard drive and any non essential peripherals and issue still happened. Had someone come out again and they replaced the motherboard. Now Windows is saying it isn't a valid copy and needs to be activated, the original issue is still occurring, and the system freezes during startup quite often. When I tried to get them to send me my Windows key they said it was embedded on the motherboard, but I told them they just replaced the motherboard so it seems like it wasn't on the replacement and they won't do anything about it

Beyond the horrors of this service request, the actual Alienware system is pretty garbage. It's difficult to make any modification to the system given the poor air circulation and horrible server power supply they chose to use. Add to this they have a second NVMe slot that you can't even use and the lack of connections to properly power the latest gen of NVidia graphics cards. All of this makes the computer brand that used to be synonymous with high end gaming now get out performed by a budget best buy rando PC.

I will never buy a Dell product again after this experience.
