Dropbox is terrible and it ruins everything. Please please please do not support its creators. It is garbage. Please heed my warning: dropbox will ruin everything.
Thank you for your time.
I use Dropbox as a back up for important files and and to send large data files to others I work with. I had no ideas that dropbox was duplicating everthing I sent on two of my computers. Dropbox used up all of my hard drive space and cost me over a thousand dollars in repairs and service fees and stress for crashing my office server. Bull $#*! ignorant assuming company!
My business had me sign up for a plus account and upon noticing that they had charged me an additional year I called and requesting cancellation / refund. It was not long after renewal and they refused to offer any support and had to pay for the additional year of service...
Apparently I have been charged for a service I barely used by Dropbox. There is no phone number. Chat sends you to a site that tells you to cancel on another device. I checked and I paid $10 five years ago and somehow this is a recurring billing. I would really avoid this company. GoogleDrive works much better for the same price. I have had it for years.
I used to love dropbox until I had a problem with my account and they did not respond to me. I think unless you are a corporate client you are going to get low customer service. Their prices compared to box.com are also extremely high.
I`m still not sure if its safe to store something in ANY of the cloud services, but this one seems ok to me. Atleast I didnt find anything wrong using it for 2 years. Not a premium(or how thats called?) user, just personal file storing, low amount of info
BeingI was offered a trial of business Dropbox. Being very busy I thought I would give it a go. Next thing over $800.00 was taken from my bank account by Dropbox with NO email or call asking if this is Ok or warning me. Of course they claim it is in the small print but they will NOT refund my money. That's it for me. I liked using Dropbox before but will never support a company that uses underhand ways of coning people in. A disgrace. They deserve to be charged and made to pay all the unsuspecting customers back in full.
Would you like to use a file hosting service that have a tendency of deleting your files? Then this is for you.
Across the Internet just before the approximate year 2012 or so, almost ALL links to dropbox files suddenly breaks and leads to error 404. This is not because the user purposely deleted them. This can be proven here:
https://smwc.me/******* (if it was deleted on purpose, it would've state the reason)
This is a disgrace, almost as bad as the recent photobucket disaster when they changed their TOS to require $399/year to display images off-site. Again, if the user of Dropbox is inactive, there is no way for that to be fixed unless someone else has a backup available. Use google drive instead.
How can they do this? A site designed for backup and sharing your files (legally), now trashed and gone for good.
EDIT: it happened on March 15,2017. They decided to remove public links and never admitted the reason why.
Couldn't get done what I intended to use Dropbox for on a business account due to all the glitches and confusing way it's designed, so I never really used it. Got a notice of a $799.50 charge that I didn't want and was unaware it would renew for full year when the norm using other apps is a monthly subscription.
This sting tactic although legal is unethical and bad business.
Taking that amount of money unannounced and on short notice at a time when it's needed for more pressing family maters is UNETHICAL! Their refund policy is nonexistent, as well as their customer service.
Buyer beware!
I used the basic plan free of charge to upload some files before some years and yesterday all of a sudden, they decided to charge me with 199 euro out of nowhere and their support can't find the transaction, as they don't have a transaction number and they can't even locate the account charged even after they were provided with a referral number and approval number too. So convenient for them. This company is a fraud, stay away and never give them any credit card details. Thank you for ruining this Christmas for me Dropbox, really if I had the time and money, I'd gladly proceed with legal actions against you!
Answer: TRUE THEY SCAMMED ME TOO!
Answer: SCAMMERS!
Answer: I hope there is a class action suit and I will join it.
Answer: Dropbox customer support will soft talk you into thinking they are helping to put a stop to their fraudulent charges, but in the end they actually do nothing. I don't believe they have an in-house system to stop credit card charges. There are many crooked companies that do business this same way as well. How many people don't read their credit card statement in full every month? And the dropbox folks rake in the fraudulent charges people don't catch. Call them, and they say "we're sorry" it won't happen again. I went through that three times and finally had to re-issue my card with a new number. Shown is a canned text statement below sent to people with billing problems: >"I will need all of the following information for security reasons and to locate the charge to assist you:"< > Card type First six digits of the card Last four digits of the card Full name on the credit card charged Date of charge Amount charged Billing postal code< "Dear Dropbox, If I spent the same amount of time, it takes to cancel a CC looking at the thousands of negative online reviews before I bought Dropbox I would be well ahead of the game. I added my negative review of dropbox to the many already online after I changed the CC number on my Visa, of course. And no, I will not give you any more cc numbers or names. Dropbox has a worldwide reputation of continuous charges once they get your number. Did you think I just fell off the turnip truck? LOL Goodbye Forever,"
Answer: I was unsuccessful as well. I ended up disputing the charge with my credit card. It is still being investigated. My wife was successful in getting a refund on a new account that she never used, within 7 days of paying. She is the only one I know of that has done that successfully.
Dropbox has a rating of 1.9 stars from 198 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Dropbox most frequently mention credit card, customer service and free trial. Dropbox ranks 109th among Online Storage sites.
