eBid has a rating of 1.9 stars from 175 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about eBid most frequently mention lifetime membership, customer service, and credit card problems. eBid ranks 184th among Auction sites.
I've been a seller on Ebid for many years and the platform has grown organically over that time. Fees are low (or free) but do not expect Ebay levels of sales. Ebid seems to have certain categories of items that sell regularly and if you offer goods in any of those categories, you will see regular sales. The one off payment lifetime seller option is so comparatively cheap that you will most likely make back the cost in savings in your first year particularly if you sell regularly or run a niche business - it's a going to be much cheaper to set up a store front in Ebid than hosting your own website.
Looking for eBay alternatives. Thought I would give eBid a try. Apparently, there is no free option - that is, you have to pay a fee to get access to eBid site functionality. I was hoping for at least a free-trial option so I could "kick the eBid site tires" before signing up. But even the site support option (which I was going to inquire about free trial options) comes with a cost. I'll pass on eBid.
I have been delighted with eBid both as a seller and a buyer. I've been there almost four years and I have never had a bad experience.
The site is growing rapidly, management is careful to screen out and control dishonest sellers AND buyers, only one account per address (keeps the dodgy people out), no duplicate listings (so I don't have to plow through pages of junk to find what I'm looking for), many payment options, worldwide exposure.
I have noticed that some of the people giving the site bad reviews did not follow the proper procedures to get help. I also know that some of these problems will not be handled by any other auction site. Try getting help on eBay if a buyer rips you off! Buyers always have recourse (they can get their money back).
I'm a seller on ebid and have been there for about 2 1/2 years. I sell collectibles and their fees are extremely fair. Support answers your inquiry within 24-48 hours and the response is not canned like at the bay. You actually get a live individual to respond. Listing an item is easy with their 'default listing' option. Sales are increasing and as more sellers find us the variety of items is growing. I'm happy I found this site to sell my collectibles on.
Recently returned to Ebid after several years.
Needed to change username to start afresh. Customer Service promptly dealt with my request offering a more personal service rather than the automated response from other well known rivals.
Listing is very easy and fees very reasonable compared to other online auction sites.
So far so good.
Ive been selling on and off on ebid for over 4 years now. Casually to start and now a little more seriously. I paid an upfront fee of about fifty bucks I think. I pay nothing to list and about 2% when an items sells. My things are sent to Google shopping for free which helps sales. Not sure why the site gets slammed when someone buys off a bad seller. Check feedback guys before making a purchase.
Ebid is an awful site. A 'one-off' fee is charged up front with the promise of no more fees, they then add a fee to every sale. They never advertise themselves, relying on their customers to do it for them. The traffic through the site is fairly high but no-one there seems to be making any sales. This is a shame because the site looks good, is relatively easy to navigate and has everything in place to make it work except decent management. But I suppose, if they charge up-front, then they see no reason to do anything for their money. If you're looking for a viable alternative to ebay then I suggest you pass this site by.
Terrible, terrible site. I bought the Seller+ Lifetime membership so I could sell for free. Was "selling" (if you can say that) items for a bit. Then I "randomly" got chosen to submit my passport/utility bill. I did both. In fact, I actually submitted 2, not 1, utility bills. My electric and gas bill, both of which have my name and address clearly printed on the FIRST page. BOTH of which I had received not but 3 days prior.
I wake up the next morning to get an email saying "Please submit a valid utility bill that has your name and address and is within 30 days". What a joke! I email them back and tell them "look at the front of the page". HAH! I wake up again the next morning and my account is disabled! Emailed them again and haven't gotten a response.
Thanks for stealing my money and providing terrible customer service. You should try hiring people who have at least graduated from elementary school, because apparently they have no idea how to read.
The site is difficult to navigate for both buyer and seller. I am a seller who was born before the computer was invented, and as such need much more tech help than eBid offers. They are quick to get back to me by email, but I can't understand their written instructions. There is no one from the company that you can actually talk to. I would like to bulk edit many of my listings, but can't determine how. Many of my customers from other sites don't like having to sign up with a credit card before they can even view my listings. I don't accept paypal, but my customers tell me that they can't determine how to pay on the site with their credit card.
I am a seller on this site, or at least I would be if anybody actually purchased anything on there. It is my belief that the site is genuine, there will always be con men willing to use sites like this to scam people, ebay are well established and used to the scams and have learned how to beat them, or at least compensate losses when they occur, but lets face it, ebay can afford it, it costs a fortune to sell on there. I would like to see ebid survive, I think it is about time ebay had some serious competition.
I bought 2 items totalling £93.85 from a seller on the eBid Internet auction site. The items were excellent and arrived next day by Recorded Delivery. I am very pleased with the excellent service I had from this seller. Also the site is easy to use, you can pay with an existing PayPal account as well as other means and the site has a wide range of items available for sale. Buying here is a pleasure.
I am also a seller on eBid and find that my items sell well. The cheap fee structure is very attractive.
Took my $50 for lifetime listing membership. I spent considerable time putting up listings, which go NO interest. They then deleted my listings stating I didn't log in and check on them often enough. Hours of time wasted! They get no traffic and just rip you off for the $50. Ask for a refund and they tell you it's past the refund period. BS! Terrible! Stay with Ebay or use something else.
I'm sorry for those who have had a bad run of things. It isn't ebid's fault that a seller was bad or that people looked but did not buy an item they put up for auction. Nor can ebid or any auction site make people look at what you are selling. Perhaps you could try selling something more popular or at a better price.
I both buy and sell on ebid and I love it WAY more than e-bay. The tools for selling/preparing your auction are way more user friendly.
It's a fantastic site & I think everyone should give it a try to see for themselves.
I have been selling quality merchandise on the internet for nearly 2 decades, on several websites, and have found that Ebid is by far the worst of them all. They have absolutely no interest in promoting sales for the sellers and are only concerned with getting money from advertisers. Moreover, they will constantly delete legitimate auctions, without any notice, and for absolutely no reason whatsoever ~ thereupon removing all photos and descriptions. Sellers who have been with them for many years are so infuriated and frustrated with them, that they are all leaving like rats fleeing a sinking ship. Do not waste your time, money and effort on this disastrous so-called auction website. They are by far the very worst and will not last much longer.
Sorry E-Bid pals today I decided to switch back to e-bay after nearly a year of trying to sell my stuff on E-bid, nothing moved seems like either no-one see it or perhaps no one trust or know this web site. I have to admit that e-bid website is a lot easier and more user friendly to add stuff but what is a point if stuff is not selling. I even paid a premium price for a year to have maximum visibility, lost money on it.
Sorry to say but I do not recommend e-bid again feel bad for those guys but this is a truth.
I love ebid.net. It is a very user friendly site with great customer support. The forums have lots of friendly people and knowledgeable threads to help you get started. I have been selling and buying here for over 2 years and would highly recommend it to anyone.
Got my periodical log in or we close your listings today. So logged in. Quite a lot of views but no sales. In the same period with eBay I have had over 100 sales in spite of my prices being higher on eBay - go figure. Are the number of views legit? I would like to see lists of items that have sold on eBid but have never found a way of doing it.
I have been a life member for over 15 years and have over 150 feedback all positive. Sales used to be slow but regular. Now none.
I tried contacting eBid to change my username to by eBay username about a year ago. I never got a reply in spite of repeated efforts. I will keep the current listings on eBid but it doesn't compare well to eBay in sales, in research of what is selling or has sold, or customer service.
On my first, and only purchase on eBid, the seller sends the wrong item. So OK, they made a mistake on their listing, I will just hit the return button. But wait... there is NO return button on eBid. I have to go to a LOT more trouble pursuing this directly with the seller via messages.
Unlike eBay which has a great infrastructure to manage transactions between buyers and sellers, eBid is just a wannabe copycat, except that they have missed out most of the essential functionality.
I will be deleting my account.
UPDATE - I had a reply from a message to the seller who sent the wrong item: 'This email is not monitored'. Unbelievable. I have never had this much trouble at Amazon or eBay.
Lets look at the facts:
OK you get more traffic at eBay and you may sell more at eBay but you also make eBay even richer.
My reason for returning to eBid was when I was told that eBay was cutting ties completely with PayPal and all your earnings will be paid directly into your bank account 2-3 days after payment. The majority of the items I sell have a purchase price of £1.99. Imagine my bank statement. And even worse if some customer is nor happy eBay will take it automatically out of your account and you may not be able to pay your rent because of it.
But back to eBid. I wanted to change my username and eBid was very helpful. The forum community is kind and helpful.
But don't expect sales without doing the legwork. You have to promote your store yourself and that's how you get sales. Talking of traffic. I only just moved back less than a month ago and I do have views as high as eBay. (See highlighted in one picture)
Tip for consumers:
Give it a try the guys selling there are just as good as on eBay

I have bought many knitting patterns and have never been disappointed
I have been with ebid for over a year now.
I think it is the best of all the alternate sites to ebay.
It works the same way in that it has browsing lists.
Your items rise to the top and do get seen.
There are several ways of joining.
The best is a one off lifetime fee and then you can have gallery pics with a final value fee of only 2%.
Your listings can have 5 pictures and a video.
You can list auction style or Buy Now.
You can have upto 5 free shops.
They have rules that are enforced.
You can contact support easily if you want to and there is a very active helpful forum.
Sure ebid does not have as many members as ebay, but it is growing.
If you want a friendly safe place to sell, then I recommend ebid
I get my account banned for no reasons. I haven't done any violations and the next day they don't allow me to login. I tried contacting them about the issue and I get zero response! I have made several accounts in the past and they all shared the same fate. Registering isn't even functional, alot of times they claim to send confirmation email but they don't. Janky website with terrible service! Don't waste your time with it!
Do not waste $50.00 on these clowns and there bogus website.
Ebid sucks big time! I joined 5 months ago without issue. This week a buyer had buyers remorse and told ebid that i sold a fake item. Bam my account is closed without notice and after 3 days of submitting proof about the item via email, i am still locked out of my account and ebid does not reply any longer. They must consider this person an expert in authenticating items that Neiman Marcus will not even evaluate.
EBid does not wish to communicate with you. Otherwise what kind of a business wouldn't have a telephone in 2011?
Even Ebay don't ban you on the word of some buyer with a line thorough there user name.
Avoid these bum scammers altogether!
Tip:
This is a easy way to eliminate your competitors on eBid! Just make a purchase and lie to eBid about it.
Signed up from a Google ad stating "FREE BID AND SELL". Turns out it's only free to bid. You need to 'upgrade' to a seller - which will cost you. The one time fee is great if you are listing one really expensive item or many items but is no good if you only have a few inexpensive items to sell.
This place has apparently been around since 1998 but I never heard of it until yesterday. Tried searching for a few items that I might want and there is nothing being offered. Lots of junk. People selling dollar store items and what not. No thanks.
I read one other user having to supply them with ID and utility bills...????WTF. NEVER send that kind of information on line or by email. Might as well just hand them a copy of your fingerprints, blood type and your debit card for good measure.
Been here 2 days - and I can't wait to get out.
I am a seller bought their membership for $49.99. Have not sold one item but they charge me fees! I sell coach, Michael kors brand name items! Go to EBAY! Its is 100 better then this company! And their is no number for customer serivice That is so wrong!
I am an online seller and sell on amazon, ebay, ebid and a few other sites. Ebid is by far the worst of all the sites i use. I have listed the exact same products and I have yet to make a sale. I am a seller plus but have sold not one item although having over 200 items listed. I have constant sales with both my amazon and ebay and other sites. The evidence speaks for itself... Not the best site but maybe Im doing something wrong... highly doubt it though. Yes it has less fees but I prefer actually making money and having something taken out than making none at all..
After a year of hard effort and money spent, eBid marketplace is not worth it for a seller.
Cheap fees comapred to eBay and others.
Not many buyers, No customer services.
Claiming open and friendly but recently asking for your Passport, Driving Licence without guarantee to keep your confidentiality safe! I have doubt about the motive behind the ID Check: ask you for more money!
I am saying bye to eBid.
Tony from London
Very bad website to use. Poor navigation and bidding is very complicated and difficult. I would not recommend using them. I tried calling and calling because I had a credit issue, and no one seemed to be able to answer simple questions. Only once a manager came on the line I got somewhere, but it was a pain.
