The policy of returning a car with an incomplete fuel tank - a compulsory surcharge for filling the tank is 65 euros or you need to buy additional insurance for canceling your own participation for 151 euros
I am extremely unsatisfied with the services of EconomyCarRentals.com and Maggiore. In a nutshell, I booked a car for 130 EUR on EconomyCarRentals.com with full insurance package and had to pay in the end 320 EUR to Maggiore even though car was in prestine condition upon return.
What happend the cashier of Maggiore upsold some unnecessary additional insurance upon car collection and assured me that it was they way they describe deposit which is to be returned in full amount. It sounded strange, but I assumed this is how they do things.
In the end it turned out that it was not deposit put upsell of unnecessary additional insurances I did not need. EconomyCarRentals.com said they were not able to do anything about it (even though I was their direct customer).
So, the main learnings are:
- avoid EconomyCarRentals.com - use more reputable car booking sites, which provide customer protection
- avoid Maggiore - they are just intentially misleading customers
- don't sign stuff which explicitly doesn't state deposit sum and that it will be returned provided no damages are detected to the car.

It was great. Car delivered to our hotle on time. The driver was very polite, the car was very clean. We enjoid the car the all rental period. Return at the Airpirt was efficiant, fast and easy.
We didn't like the insurance contract with the site (huge deposit).
Eventually we paid twice- again with the rental company, which was mach better. No deposit needed.
THE DATE WAS 7. 10. 2019 - OCTOBER. ALL WAS ALMOST, O. K.

After booking I called the rental agent to see if it was booked and while it IS, it is not at the price I reserved. About 25% more. Illegal BAIT AND SWITCH... I get there, I have to pay more because what are my options at that point. I try to let the company know in advance, see if they will answer to this fraud... the number they provide does not work. I send and email - the email says they will not respond for 10-15 days due to high volume (they must be the busiest company on the internet!) and they provide a live chat link that is also bogus. Complete fraud. There should be some way to hold businesses like this accountable for their illegal activity.

Economy car rentals advertise themselves as finding the best deal for car rental, but this is absolutely not the case. They take a commission so it's cheaper to rent directly with the car rental company. The commission Economy car rentals charges the customer, is not clear at all when you do the booking. You will see the charge later on in your visa and when you asked them, they send you an invoice post booking. It was not mentioned either that they charge you in euros and not in $ to your visa.
It's impossible to contact them by phone. The communication is all done by email and they take several day to over a week to answer.
I had a very bad experience and it costs us 200$ more than if we would have directly rented the car from Alamo car rental... Economy car rentals charged a fee but no special service was received that justified the fee.
No way of contacting them to resolve an issue which led to the deposit being lost

Rented a car through hotwire, pickup off offsit today at FLL. I used my own insurance, they charged 3 dollars per day extra for the "privelege" of doing so. No choice, other than paying over 200 dollars for one week of liability insurance (without collision, that my credit card would have covered. Nowhere was that disclosed. I will dispute with my credit card company.

Al llegar a la oficina de San José (Budget) me incluyeron un seguro que yo no contraté ni quise incluir dado que ya estaba asegurado. Pero no me dejaron eliminar el mismo y no me permitían retirar el vehículo si no lo contrataba.
Es difícil demostrar que yo no lo contratara voluntariamente (pero sí ilógico si ya tenía otro contratado)

When I arrived at the San José (Budget) office, they included insurance that I did not hire or wanted to include since I was already insured. But they didn't let me remove it and they didn't allow me to remove the vehicle if I didn't hire it.

Already for two months I cant get my reimbursement back. I made a car reservation with a full insurance via economy car rentals site, paid half of the amount. However, in sicily airport Maggiore billed me again a full amount + insurance, claiming that the difference would be paid back once I return the car.
Unfortunately, the car was attacked by wild dogs, who scratched the car. The police confirmed the incident. All the docs were given to Maggiore, however, they charged me another amount for the damages + taxes. The taxes and damages are covered by my contract, which was half paid! I refused to sign the bill, but they took the money without my signature! After two months of struggle, calls, emails etc - still no reaction at all! We speak about 700 euro of difference which they billed me illegally and dont want to reimbource. Scamming company! Maggiore! Never anymore!
Rented a car on their website, with FINAL PRICE and no hidden costs blah blah blah written at check out. Only to find out from my credid card balance that they charge you (for me was around 30) a commission. Scammers, keep away
NEVER RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. They advertise fake price and fake cars. They show you completely different car and different rate online on the website, but when you go pick up the car you will old, poor, and much smaller car and that too in much more expensive rate that they showcase on the web.
