I am a senior in high school and I do remote learning because of my anxiety. I've been doing Edgenuity for the past year and a half. And you know what I have to say? Edgenuity is the bane of my existence. The absolute worst platform I've ever had the displeasure of using. The overabundance of work and long, annoyingly monotone videos are absolutely insufferable.
Let me explain here. For example, I take an English course. I'm usually given around 4-7 assignments in that class daily. That usually involves at least 2 quizzes. My class periods last around 50 minutes. There's no way anyone can finish the given assignments within one class period. And that snowballs and can result in you being behind (and although one could finish their work after school, the motivation to do that is as strong as wet paper). It is SO unnecessarily draining. I'm behind nearly 300 assignments in my Spanish class; which likes to assign some of the most tedious—and, dare I say—ridiculous assignments. Going around a neighborhood speaking to people you don't know? Making several recipes? Let's be serious…
Brings me back to an AP History course I took. Several of those extended assignments were impossible for me to do (I live in the southeast). I cannot collect leaves in Arizona, nor do I have a family member that emigrated.
The website is incredibly glitchy and crashes a lot. The videos and lessons are all outdated.
This is the most boring platform ever. You learn nothing. And I love to learn. If you use this, Quizlet and Brainly are your friends.
If you're reading this and consider, RUN FOR THE HILLS. And if you're like me—good luck.
Esteban was extremely professional, helpful, knowledgeable and most importantly patient. I was very pleased.
Edgenuity is by far one of the worst learning platforms iv'e come along by It has no inter activity and does not engage any of the students
In a pinch, Edgenuity is a good system. But, it could be so much better. When showing convection currents, why not show a short video of convection currents happening in a tank of water using food coloring rather than showing a picture of a pot of water and then having the instructor draw arrows on the picture? Almost every day there is something like this.
Another annoying thing is that the time estimates for the lessons are often wildly off. One of them claimed 17 minutes for the lesson and just the videos of the instructor talking were 34 minutes. That doesn't include the time spent answering the formative assessment questions. I'm happy they have formative assessments scattered though the lesson, that's a good idea.
Feedback options are terrible. What they should have is feedback button on each page so that a teacher can click on it and have the feedback automatically put the lesson, assignment quiz or even more specific info like the page of the lesson written into the feedback instead of relying on someone who has very little extra time to type out exactly which lesson, time of the video that something is wrong, etc.
The vast majority of the information is accurate but they have messed up on a couple of big ones. For example, in a lesson on gravity they say that a more massive object exerts more force on a less massive object. Not true. Equal and opposite is what it should be. They kept saying it wrongly through the lesson and there is not any good way to give feedback.
The platform is not as flexible as I think it should be, either. If I want to push things back a day, say I have a guest speaker or something, I can't create a "hole" in the schedule without doing some radical things like changing the starting or ending day of the entire class. Of course tons of other things get messed up if I do that.
The website is horrible. It auto logs you out after 10 minutes and you have close out your browser because it doesn't go back to the login page, instead it shows a loading icon that lasts indefinitely, and when I go back to the login page it still shows only a loading icon, so the only way to get back to the login page without seeing the loading icon is to close out the browser. Then when you do get back in, it goes to 4 or 5 assignments back, so you have to click the Next Assignment button until you get to the one you were working on. And did I mention that it loads incredibly slow--the screen flashes like 6 times every time the assignment loads.
The tests will auto-submit if you close your computer in the middle because why not. So let's say I'm in the middle of a test and I have to go somewhere, I'll get a 30 percent or however far I am through the test.
The text fields in the assignments always get marked wrong, lowering my grade. It never tells me what's wrong with it. Of course, I've tried using more characters/words/sentences, even though it doesn't say there's a minimum number of sentences, but no matter how many sentences I type, it still gets marked as wrong.
The videos are all basically in slow motion, so it takes forever to watch them. I'm sure some corporate guy who has no idea what he's talking about said "well that would be cheating" or something so that's why it's not allowed.
On the assignments that are in Google Docs or Google Slides, it doesn't show the project description until after you submit the assignment. And you can't unsubmit, so I never know what to do on the projects, I just have to go off of the project title.
The videos don't even teach what's on the tests.
If you want the answers for the test, every single one of them is on Brainly. If you don't pay $10/month for an account, you can block cookies on your browser and sign out of your account, and you can use Brainly for free. I would suggest using a separate browser for this (I use Chrome normally, and I have cookies blocked on Firefox) because you don't want to block cookies for all your pages.
Last thing: Edgenuity sucks
Funny they ask me to review and I never got any support. As an educator I will never use this app again. Not worth the confusion and lack of support
It is an awesome school site, it's so easy to do your schoolwork. I'm a student at Edgenuity, for online
The curriculum is filled with cut and paste busy work rather than research backed lessons. This is the new digital babysitter.
Tech support responded quickly and told me they were working on it. Got the issue taken care quickly and got back to work soon afterwards.
