“Awesome site to create customized event registration pages”

My nonprofit org has created over 400 events on Eventbrite and we love the incredible power of this site. We've even created bots with their great API to integrate registration data with other systems. Love it!

November 5th, 2016

Good Afternoon,

I am writing to express how unsatisfied I am with the way the Nick Cannon Wild 'n Out 9:30pm show yesterday (Fri November 4,2016) at NYC Arena was run.

This was possibly the worst event I have ever been to at this venue, unsure of who to put the blame on (venue or event promoters) BUT the 9:30pm show was conducted with out any form or fashion. Doors were scheduled to open at 9 however the line did not begin to move to allow for those to enter until 11 o'clock! Two hours later, around the time the show was scheduled to end (11:30pm). No one came to explain the delay or inform us of what was going on. My friend and I had to leave line to ask security what was the hold up, and we were told the meet and greet had ran long.

We did not enter the venue until around midnight upon which the show was in progress, and we were told there weren't any more seats together and that my party would be separated in order for us to have a seat.
Despite the ridiculously long wait we were cheated out of our money. We paid $64.29 for mezzanine seating yet there was no distinguished area for it. We were scattered throughout the arena with those who paid less ($40). Defeating the purpose of the additional funds. I need someone to explain to me what our extra money was for because it was obviously not apparent.

I am a faithful user of Eventbrite, having used the services many times before in the past and have never had this issue. I understand this event was listed as no refunds but this was not acceptable. Since I can not get back the time I wasted as promoters/venue kept us outside, compensation for tickets I reaped no benefit of would be the least that could be done.

Please if this is not the correct outlet for me to voice my complaints please inform me of who to reach out to.

Thanks.

I used Eventbrite recently to purchase tickets to a networking event. The website is easy to use and for the most part a great platform.

Eventbrite locked my account and took down my event without informing me. When I called, they emailed me within 24 hours the following email.

"After reviewing your account and the events you have listed with Eventbrite, it has come to our attention that your Eventbrite account does not comply with our Terms of Service. As a result, your account has been locked and your events will no longer run on Eventbrite.

As you may recall, the Terms of Service to which you agreed to when you signed up with Eventbrite state that we reserve the right to review and stop running any events when deemed necessary. You can review these Terms of Service here: www.eventbrite.com/tos.

For privacy reasons, Eventbrite Support is unable to provide any additional information regarding this account, and the Trust and Safety team is only available by email."

My company is a start-up company, it's an online learning center, it is still not accepting business although it is fully registered and legitimate. http://thelearningweb.me

I work for a large prestigious employer, when I log in as a large corporation, I get VIP treatment (they send the checks super-super fast!), when I log in with my own start up company's email address, I get thrown out. I can't believe the discrimination. I say it is discrimination, bias and bully because no concrete reason is given for deleting my event.

I did not contact Eventbrite further because I no longer need to use an external software. I managed to configure the shopping cart to handle event registration that is integrated to Moodle LMS and Joomla CMS. Eventbrite cannot do this although it's a good event registration system.

I have bought tickets through this site 3x the 1st 2 times the tickets were real, no problems so I felt safe buying my aftershock ticket for Sacramento, CA; It was $150. It should be noted that the last time i bought tickets was 2+ years previous and they were 20$ tickets, but still i felt safe getting tickets. I got a receipt and confirm email telling me i had to get their app downloaded to open my ticket, so i did all that time-consuming stuff before going to the event. Well the downloaded ticket looked real and opening it produced a ticket that showed a square bar code type thing. I get to the event and I am told that the real tickets only have traditional upc barcodes, i of course argue and show them my receipt, but reffered to box office tent, they look up code and at reciept and say that it it 100% a fake ticket and they cant help me. I tried to get a refund but they refer me to the promoter. I then look them up on the BBB--- they have 150+ complaints last 3 yrs with over 50 in the last year, and a rating of 1.5stars! I cant believe they are in business still. PLEASE AVOID THEM! It seems they have gotten much worse over the last couple years. I am going through my bank trying to get a refund for fraud. I caution you to look them up on the BBB

I was looking for an event to schedule for my meetup group, and stumbled on a "Wealth Wisdom Seed & Harvest" event that is hosted at a local church. A church that claims to teach "financial literacy." Many times, people are scammed out of money, believing that if they "plant a seed," it will come back to them in the form of different kinds of wealth... well, this "seed" is often hard earned money of the congregants, and they keep giving more and more of their money. Yes, sometimes a seed refers to a good deed, etc., but not in this case--they are clearly referring to "economics" if you click on the link. They take quotes about "prosperity" from the Bible and distort them for their own financial gain. Please watch your susceptible family members--especially the elderly or disabled, who could be taken advantage of. Check out John Oliver's comedic, yet deadly serious look into these so-called "prosperity gospel" charlatans. He's a satirist, yes, but within satire contains the "seed" of truth. He exposes a scam that people cannot afford to ignore. I reported this event to EventBrite as fraudulent... they said they'd review it. Checked and it was still listed, so I reported it again, and this time, I also told the Jacksonville Police Department. The people of this town come to a church to pray, and not to be preyed upon. They are still recovering from Hurricane Florence, and its abominable to me that EventBrite would allow a charlatan like this to advertise an event that's going to bilk these trusting people out of their money. So far, the event is still listed as active. It's my hope that if you click on the link, EventBrite will have had the decency to make it inactive.

I purchased tickets for last nights Wild N Out event Amazura. This event was listed to begin at 9:30pm and end at 11:30pm. I along with many others waited in line for over 2 hours just to get inside. This was not the fault of the patrons because when I asked a security guard about the delay he mentioned that the VIP meet and greet was still going on. There was no other mention from anyone else what was going on inside. The staff seemed to be very upset themselves and at some point two bouncers had to be separated from each other as they were about to get into an altercation. At this point my friend, who I attended the event with, and I were very confused and figured that the show itself would just begin late. This was not the case as when we finally entered the arena at 11:45pm the show had begun and seemed to be coming to a conclusion. The mezzanine seating that we had paid $64.29 for was not only not available but the staff angrily shouted out that there were no more seats and that we could look for ourselves to see what was left. My friend managed to find a seat on the other side of the room and I unfolded a chair near the bathroom to sit. The comedians were on the stage but you couldnt hear what was being said due to the fact that people were still trying to find seating. At some point people began to stand on their chairs to see the stage, which completely blocked the little view that I had. Shortly after, the lights came on and the event concluded. I have used Eventbrite many times before in the past and have never had this issue. I understand this event was listed as no refunds but this was not acceptable. This event was very disorganized and I did not receive ANY of the services that I paid for and I am asking for my money back.

Update: Feb 13,2024:

Can Eventbrite get ANY worse?

Not only do they NOT provide decent customer service, but now they are now forcing organizers to do the following to list events requiring money:

1. Provide Eventbrite with their banking information to be paid,

And

2. Allow Eventbrite to hang onto full profits until they are ready to pay the organizer or refund the organizer's customers,

And

3. Only accept payment methods that Eventbrite's system will allow.

They no longer allow people to put links to external ticketing sites in their descriptions, and this is why I left.

All Eventbrite staff care about is collecting as much money as they can. After all, when you try their website (scan it through a website checking site), they load a bunch of other stuff of which half I could guarantee are advertisements and data collection scripts.

Eventbrite needs to be shut down!

I have attached the CEO's response to an innocent question, and I attached the email I received today with the event title and ID number blocked out

Old review:

So many reasons people shouldn't use it.
1. Its too slow to work with then creating events. Sometimes you can't even type characters without delay.
2. It's run by someone who told one of their customers to go F-themselves.
3. Eventbrite event organizers are FORCED to assign a price to events even if the ticketing is managed outside of EventBrite. This creates confusion to prospective buyers because if people want ticketing and money run by an outside source ONLY and they put the correct price on Evenrbrite, then eventbrite will have the money if people click the eventbrite button instead of following the links to the right ticket source in the description.
4. It cuts creativity. A chunk of your event page will be white with Eventbrite branding and your competitior's ads will show too.
5. You have to wait until sometime AFTER the event is finished to receive pay from EventBrite.
6. They'll market you and your attendees when they feel like it even if you delete your account. They even send a reminder email 48 hours before the event start time that the event is happening even if the organizer has cancelled it.

And here's what I may have experienced that I hated (and thus why I create outrageously high prices for my events just for eventbrite viewers only)... When I list some events as FREE on eventbrite despite the actual event not being free, some people were going for the free tickets, and it got to the point where a venue owner complained that some attendees wanted refunds... Had the attendees read the fine print for my events, they should have figured out to contact ME!
There's probably 100 more but I can't think of them at the moment.

Tip for consumers:
Just DONT use the platform at all!
Anyone who wants to be an organizer there or wants to buy tickets to an event... you are doing so at your own risk. why? because countless number of reviews on review sites such as this one have stories of people not receiving their money, or their events being canceled.

My girlfriend purchased two tickets for the Black Out Gold In Masquerade Gala that was going to be held at the Willis Tower, 2323 South Wacker Dr., Chicago, on Nov. 29,2019 (see photo of tickets). One day before the event the address was changed to 2105 W. Division Ave, Chicago. A place, west of the city, in an old building that was up-for-sale where you would NEVER have paid over $109 for this event! No doubt, the reason why they waited until the night before to change the address knowing how hard it would be to refund your tickets!
I contacted Eventbrite using their corporate number provided. They DO NOT ALLOW YOU the option to speak with anyone, just provide a web address, in which to contact them about any tickets issues you might have need to discuss. I left numerous messages, but this "$#*!" company NEVER bothered to reply back to ANY of them to issue a refund. I then called American Express, which initially refunded the cost and opened up a dispute. Here is where the "SCAM" is between Eventbrite and the people / companies they deal with.
Eventbrite "markets and sells the tickets" for folks /company putting on the event. They told AE they take ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONIBILTY if the event turns out to be a SCAM. NONE! Eventbrite will NOT even provide you with information on how to contact the establishment putting on the event, so you have NO WAY to get in touch with them to try and have them issue a refund.
I will be doing everything possible to let the public know this is what can happen if they purchase tickets from this corrupt company! They could probably not even put on the event and you would NEVER be able to get your money back.
John

We use eventbrite to books hundreds of shows per year and for the most part have good success with getting our money from them in a timely manner (Wednesday each week they payout less fees). People need to remember that eventbrite is a ticket system used by the promoters for events so if they need a refund for a ticket the promoter or event has to refund the ticket first before they can refund the ticket to the customer. The challenge we have is that the system really has not been updated in a few years. COVID forced a large number of cancellations and postponements so we had to setup a credit card with Eventbrite and advanced money to them to refund tickets. Challenge we have is many customers used emails or contact numbers that are no longer working, we have even confirmed a few are in fact deceased customers and anything postponed longer than a year cannot be refunded to the credit card companies for some reason. We are trying to work with our customers who have reached out to refund money to them using a new credit card number or even cutting cheques to estates if need be but we need to collect the money back from Eventbrite that we advances so they could try and refund customers. In many cases we postponed the event and ran it in 2022 or 2023 but the system will not update it from postponed so it is not paying out the balances they owe us. What I found even more interesting is there is no way to run a report to see what events have balances owing, if not for our year end review processes we would not have realized we have a few thousand dollars owing from them. We reached out to customer service and they would not talk about how we would get our money back they kept trying to tell us that we needed to refund all our customers before they would return our money. Hmmm... we gave them the money to refund to our customers through their system and they havent yet they will no longer give us our money back so we can refund them directly because their system cant handle refunds properly. It has now been over three weeks with no refund and no response, each time we call the customer support line all they do it try and chastise us on our refund processes. So tired of this we are now looking at different solutions. Careful with this stock as if this is the approach they take with all their customers this is not a stock I would want to own, to clients. Review any events that you previously postponed or cancelled if you gave them any money there is a good chance they owe you something.
