Wouldn't give me a refund for a trip I booked. When we showed up at the rental the owner who lived in the same building said her dog had a highly contagious virus which could kill my dog. So we checked out and went to a hotel. Can you believe Flipkey wouldn't refund my $1500. Said no refunds no matter what. Well shame on you, I hope you suffer the worst bankruptcy imaginable and I will yell from mountain tops how horrible your company is. You'd rather have my dog catch a virus than do the right thing and refund me 1500 bucks!
The home we booked for our group is on the same street as a mass shooting that recently occurred. My group no longer felt safe at that location so per the cancel policy, I contacted the owner. She took 5 days to respond but said in writing that we could cancel but would pay a fee to Flipkey. Then Flipkey tells me the owner told them she would not allow us to cancel and get our deposit back and that she was allowed to rebook the home to someone else and get paid that full amount as well. So I am out $700 because we didn't feel safe at that home, the owner that paid Flipkey nothing to list that property gets to keep my money and the next person to book the home. Flipkey rep told me that shootings are common these days and this is no reason for them to step in. I even have in writing from the owner that I could cancel and get refunded!
This site is ridiculous. I mistakenly booked the wrong date range, and immediately, within minutes, cancelled the reservation. Their system confirmed the cancellation, but the dates still showed booked when I looked at it again to re-book the correct dates. I finally go the refund after getting the condo owner involved, but they are charging me the booking fee anyway. Basically, they are charging me for a mistake. That's just ripping people off. I'll never use Tripadvisor or Flipkey again.
I looked at a house listed on FlipKey ONCE. Now, I have spent months attempting to get my personal information off of the site and unsubscribe. Of course, they are required to offer customers the right to unsubscribe, but they don't. I got information on their new privacy policies. If you want to opt out, you visit their site and it is automatic approval for them to keep your information. If you don't visit their site to opt out, it is once again tacit approval. You can't ever get out. I have left them dozens of emails, they never respond. They left an address for their legal department, but don't bother. They won't ever respond. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
I can't understand all the negative ratings. All my bookings went according to plan and as described. Was a great experience. They even called the host once to check I was OK in my travels. I had to cancel one due to Venice flooding and they gave the refund instantly, with no questions.
I will definitely use again.
I have not actually booked through their site. I did try however and even though the property showed as "available" I was informed that the unit was not available a day later. At least they informed me timely but why cant they update their calendar?
Our 500.00$ deposit was kept by the home owner. She claimed things that were untrue (furniture and pans broken, excessive people in the home). -- and immediately after we checked out, submitted an itemized budget and photos to Flipkey, to get their approval to take the deposit. We had no opportunity to defend ourselves, nor did we realize we should have taken photos of the house to disprove her claims. Flipkey sided with the owner and released our deposit to her. No appeals.
Booked an apartment in Miami, when I arrived the apartment didn't match the description, it wasn't clean and I found bugs. I contacted Flipkey and sent them pictures from the apartment, to show the problem. They provided a full refund within 24 hours, there is nothing more I could ask in this situation. I am satisfied with their services.
Property Owners - DO NOT list with this company!
Just got off the phone with them and they DO NOT screen potential guests in any form. The only information they get is email and credit card information for payment processing.
You could potentially be inviting a person with a mile long criminal history into your home and do not know it.
On the other hand, AirBNB requires potential guests to fill out a profile with them before they can even request a date. You can see the person's picture, personal information, where they live and past reviews from other property owners. BEWARE!
As an owner of 2 rental properties I find Flipkey/TripAdvisor a horrible, frustrating company to work with. Their people are rude, their technology is sketchy and amateurish, their policies are not at all customer centric - and worst of all, they don't care!. I'm so fed up that I'm going to let my listings expire. I hope my Flipkey guests will start using HomeAway/ VRBO instead.
Answer: If you do, you will loose all previous phone numbers and email address from previous inquiries. Flipkey will raise the rental rate paid by potential guests. In my case rents went from $3500 for a week to over $4,000.00 making my property no longer competitive. Service worked great up until a couple years ago. Subscription fees were raised annually, inquiries were dropping, and bookings were dropping. I contacted Flipkey yesterday and they said they are prioritizing free listings since Flipkey collects a healthy booking fee. Said their plan is to discontinue annual subscriptions. Convinced me that free listing will be best for me and they are going to credit my prorated annual subscription. After doing this, 330 previous inquiries phone and emails were gone! Make sure to capture previous contact info or you will loose it.
Answer: I list my property with Flipkey and VRBO. I finally got my first booking through Flipkey but the folks canceled because Flipkey charged them $300. VRBO's fee would have been $120. I would suggest going to VRBO. Looking at the rest of these reviews, it looks like a crappy company.
