Some of their stuff is actually nice but only a value if it's on sale- otherwise most items are seriously overpriced. The real problem which repeated itself this year (because I'm a slow learner) is that your online order seems to go into a large, unchecked mailbox. Any followup inquiry by email is carefully ignored. Even their website looks at your account and just spins in circles.

A great retail concept that lost it's way due to high prices and an unconvincing model lineup (NYC types spend nice weekend, return home) vs. the old, more rugged and credible models. Lost the great Adirondack imagery. Even this review site is wonky to use. Not sure anyone cares. Sad.

Received a Frank and Eileen shirt that was a completely different style and pattern. Had to return, but never heard back. Ordered a navy nautical jacket for women and received a men's golf jacket.
Impossible to get hold of these people
Tip for consumers:
Don’t- nothing like the wonderful company that had a store in Marin and Stanford Shopping Center. What happened?

I ordered a pair of pants using their size guide. The pants were way too small so I asked to return. My total charge was $101.95. They refunded me $79.05. They charged me for the shipping and the return label. This company has a long way to go before they are consumer focused. Shocking.
Tip for consumers:
Do not purchase from this company

Cool clothes but I returned $295 shoes that I never even tried on and I used their return shipping sticker - three months ago. I have phoned, emailed, and written them but no response. Avoid them, too bad but time to face reality!

I placed an order January 17 with an order confirmation that I would receive the merchandise in 2-5 days. February and nothing so I sent emails asking for assistance. Not one response to my email. Called today and had an extremely unsatisfactory call. Waiting for a confirmation email that the order was cancelled.
Do NOT order from these guys.

I ordered 12 items in November 2019. They showed up at different times-two items well after Christmas. I subsequently returned 8 of the items. Let the nightmare begin. It is April 30,2020, and I have still to receive money back on FOUR of my items. The company owes me $841. I had to chase down the first four refunds-that took three months, multiple phone calls, and me ignoring some very poor customer service. No one at Guideboat seems to care about solving any kind of problem. I've only been given excuses. I left a message on April 17,2020; no one called me back as promised in the company's voice message. I called again today and no one answered. I left another message. I composed an email and then my email got sent back as undeliverable. I used the email address on the Guideboat website. I DO NOT know what is going on with this company but whatever it is, it appears dishonest and at the very least is unprofessional to the hilt. Steer clear of Guideboat Company.

I have purchased items from this company a number of times. I find the items made of good quality materials and like the fact that they usually not made in China. The customer service unfortunately is abysmal.
I purchased a shirt from them. After not that many wearings and washings almost every button on the shirt broke into pieces and rendered the shirt unwearable. I called customer service three times. The first time I was promised a return call which never came. The second time the representative told me she'd see if any replacement buttons might be available, but couldn't guarantee anything...nothing showed up. The final time I called, when I finished explaining the problem I found the agent had put me on hold mid conversation. I waited several minutes but he never returned.
I don't believe I have ever experienced such dismissive arrogant customer service with a company before, especially one that obviously considers itself elite.
Tip for consumers:
Don't expect much from their customer service.

I ordered shorts from Guideboat. They charged $17.95 for shipping. They sent the wrong size, XXL, by mistake. I returned the shorts and asked that I also be refunded the shipping fee since they made the mistake and sent the wrong size. They reimbursed my credit card the cost of the shorts but kept the shipping fee. When I called, I was on the phone for 40 minutes. The supervisor, Tammy, refused to refund the shipping fee even though their company made the mistake. She offered no rationale as to why. Do not deal with this company!

After spending hundreds of dollars with this company in past years when it was based in Marin, Calif. I ordered a $135 sweater from them in February. The sleeve ripped open at the shoulder after wearing it for the first time. When I tried to return for a refund the company said I was two days over the refund period and in any case they wouldn't accept return of damaged merchandise (!). Stay away! Guideboat prices were always high but the merchandise was great quality and before becoming "corporate" they were good to deal with. Now they're just another chintzy outfit.
Tip for consumers:
That I couldn't get my money back if their product was no good.

Nice catalogs, nice pictures, but very dishonest staff. They all promise your money credited back to you when you return merchandise. I would NEVER trust anyone that is associated with the company!

HEADS UP on this company: I was surprised to receive a Guideboat catalog in the mail, in 11/2019, since this company officially folded in 2918. The company J. Peterman was handling the liquidation of Guideboat Co. Inventory for some months. But now Guideboat Co. Seems to be up and running again, with no evident relationship to J. Peterman. When I tried to research company ownership, I got nothing. When you call the Guideboat phone number, the call is now answered with the company name rather than J. Peterman. So who owns this company? Is it J. Peterman under another name? It's very strange for that to be so opaque. I'd steer clear.
Original post: Phoned them on a Thursday to ask why I had not been credited for my return by the previous Friday, as I was promised. The customer service rep said she was looking at my file and saw that my return was processed and that I had indeed been credited a week prior. I asked her for a transaction code because I knew that this was not true. She said she could request that a transaction record be sent to my email. I have received that transaction record. Date of transaction? Today! The day after my last phone call asking why I had not been credited. They just can't stop lying! It's almost funny... but, not.

I had delivery confirmation that my returned items had arrived at "Guideboat" (actually J. Peterman Co.), so I phoned to check on my return credit. I was told that it would be two to three weeks before the return was processed! I pointed out, to the customer service rep, that J. Peterman was selling by deception, by sending out their constant promotional emails as Guideboat Co. She said that J. Peterman "acquired Guideboat Co. Last year." That is a lie, and I told her so. The truth is that Guideboat went bankrupt, and J. Peterman is acting as liquidator for Guideboat's remaining stock. They are required to divulge that to customers. I told her all of this, and she backed off and said that my return credit would be processed by the end of the week. Well... surprise. It wasn't processed. She lied. I have little hope that I will see my money. They owe me about $200.

After this company had the nerve to send me used, dirty merchandise, I am the one who has to waste my time chasing them down. I have sent them an email, phoned twice, waited on endless hold, and then been bounced out of the phone queue only to be instructed by the automated system to leave a message... so they might get back to be in 24 hours. Ridiculous. Update: I have since found out that Guideboat Co. Is technically out of business, and J. Peterman seems to be selling off Guideboat's stock. Yet they are sill sending out email offers for "Guideboat Co.". Deceptive business practices! Thieves.

I've made many purchases from Guideboat Co. (Guideboat.com), but they have lost me forever after what they did to me on my last order. They emailed me about an online promotion for Mother's Day, for which a limited number of items were available at deep discount. I purchased two knit shirts and a pair of handmade leather moccasins by Quoddy. When I opened my package and reached into the shoebox to pull out my new shoes, I was disgusted to see that what I held in my hand were used, dirty, heavily scuffed and worn, used shoes. Not just a little shopworn from being tried on in the store, but actually used. One of the knit shirts was also used, and arrived rumpled and covered with bits of dirt and pet hair. Only one of my items was new, clean and in unopened packaging. I don't know what they were thinking at Guideboat. Were they clearing out their bins of returned merchandise at the warehouse? They sent me items that should have been donated to a charity (although I never donate anything that is not clean and in good condition). I am furious that they would do this to a customer. It's fraud. It's downright unsanitary.

More than once I have been charged for items (+ freight) not shipped & had to request a refund - beware
Tip for consumers:
Be aware that at the time of ordering they bill you for whatever is ordered & charge the freight costs for all items, even when the order is not shipped complete.
On multiple occasions I have had to request the refund when the item didn't ship & then go back to request the refund for the higher freight charge. Not sure I would have received if I had not gone to the trouble to request
Really poor policy & a very bad customer service for refunds, especially for an upscale clothing company

A lot of their women's clothes are too fitted and about 2 sizes too small. I bought a sweatshirt that shrunk to a child's size.
