Maybe I got lucky, but I ordered twice from Gurney's and they were not bad experiences. The first time I ordered a peach tree and it came perfectly packaged, in good timing and the instructions were simple and easy. My peach tree is growing strong two years later with no issues. It is just as resilient as it was advertised. The second time I ordered a pack of variety roses, and 3/5 thrived. Gurneys was good for me, but I can only vouch for my peach tree and roses.

We ordered many items for our garden on March 12. Credit card was charged, and estimated delivery was in April. Just checked on our order (5/17/21) because we had yet to receive one single item, and delivery is now not available until June 1 - June 14, and many items are on backorder. We live in a very time-sensitive area with a short growing season. Canceled the order, but now probably won't be able to find the seeds locally because all are sold out. We've purchased through Guerney's in the past with good results, but never will again.

Ordered potatoes which according to website were in stock. They charged my credit card same day. It took 3+ weeks to receive my order which was incomplete and incorrect. No german butterballs and red gold potatoes sent in place of red Pontiac I ordered. Placed on hold for over 30 mins with customer service to be told they will not issue a refund to my credit card only an in store credit! So what do they expect me to get when EVERYTHING is out of stock AND expect me to pay additional shipping charges? Sent an e-mail again requesting refund doubt I will hear back from them. Probably gonna just put it down as lesson learned and let it go but my advice is stay away DO NOT ORDER from them.

Gurney did not send my order in a timely manner. I sent them an email asking them to cancel my order because of this, and without any response they sent the order out. I had already purchased peas as they had to be planted earlier -- but the still sent the order along with other items I had requested canceled the VERY NEXT day after my cancellation request. It seems a bit strange that they had indicated some items would not be shipped for 2 more weeks, but miraculously were shipped when I asked for a cancellation. Lost a customer Gurneys.
Tip for consumers:
DON'T!!!

Gurneys Seed and Nursery Company does not live up to its promise as a no risk guarantee. Stating that it will replace it, give credit or refund your money. I had purchased a Meyer's Dwarf Lemon tree on 3-24-2020. I finally received it on 4-21-2020, it was dried up and completely dead. I called customer service and they said that they would provide a credit. I asked, is this a credit to my credit card, they said, no, a store credit. I said I want a refund. Customer Service stated that they don't provide refunds anymore only store credit.

I was so excited to find this particular tree altogether. It arrived broken and dried out in a plastic bag in a broken box. There was no soil, no moisture, no packing material. I tried to to bring it back to life, hoping it was only mostly dead. No luck. I will be refunded only because I used American Express. The man who answered couldn't care less about poor packaging and wanted me to take credit. Hahahahaha

They cancelled my order but never notified me and didn't refund my payment until I made a stink about it months later.

I have called 3 times to find out why my order has not been shipped, each time getting promises that "it will ship in 3 days." The last time I canceled my order. I need to start my seeds! The service rep said he was "unable to cancel my order." I'm done with Gurneys!

I ordered from Gurneys for the first and most certainly the last time two months ago. When they couldn't ship part of my order, they did not apply my coupon, and billed me full price for the remaining items. A lavender and a rose plant cost me over $53, and the lavender plant has already died. Buyer Beware.

I ordered $650 worth of arborvitae emrald green shrubs. When I received them, the were far from emerald green. They didn't come with the roots encompassed with soil and the roots were dry as hell and the branches were already Browning and wilting. I planted them anyway and have been nurturing them for about a month. They don't look like they're going to make it.
Pathetic!

I ordered 5 fruit trees and spent over 260$ I received 5 sticks in two boxes, they will not refund your money. That made me so angry when I opened the box! They gave me credit for overpriced, everything is over priced! I went to Walmart and tractor supply and got 7 ft trees in containers WITHdirt for 10$ chepper then the dormant sticks. I want my money back! I would not buy ANYTHING from this company but and I will dispute this worthless credit they are trying to force me to except.
Tip for consumers:
Do not buy from them!! Go to another website.

Placed my order on 3/25/17 and it's 5/5/17 and have received 2 shipping delay notices so far (we're sorry, but...). As soon as I called today, they said they would put my order in to ship today. WTF? This is not the first time, but this is the worst, and the last!

I ordered 4 items on 2/19--2 seed packets and 2 types of plants. My last frost date is March 15th, but I didn't receive my 2nd plant order until today (4/25) and I had to call and beg them to send the seeds or I wouldn't have gotten them until today. Their customer service is a joke.
Tip for consumers:
There are many purveyors of seeds and plants--use anyone except Gurney's.

I have ordered 4 rose bushes in the pots on March the 11, today is May the 12th, and I have not heard from Gurneys. No one picks up the customer service phone line, I have emailed several times, I have tried to reach them man times, nothing. I have paid a lot of money for my roses and I have not received anything!
If I don't hear from Gurneys in one week, I will search for a legal ways of dealing with this. I know, it is a corona time, but this is ridiculous. Will never order from them again!

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY!
I've placed (3) orders for both seeds and live plants for my garden. Two out of the three plants arrived DEAD and their customer service 'offering' of compensation didn't even cover my shipping costs. THE WORST customer service is terrible... it's taken me several attempts to get a reasonable 'credit" of ($10.00) AND THEN after trying to place another order the 'gift certificate' expired within 34 minutes of receiving in my email. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE! I spent well over $100 with their company. NEVER AGAIN!

I am so so sorry I didn't read the reviews before ordering from these losers. I usually order from Plant Delights Nursery and should have stuck with them this year…Plant Delights Nursery actually delivers items quickly - because they know they are dealing with live plants that need sunlight, water, and TLC, plus they actually CARE about the living products they sell, unlike Gurneys which must be a company of morons or plant haters. I am so furious! I ordered a cherry tree and the poor thing is in some hot warehouse somewhere, with no sunlight and no water. Gurney's Phillipino "customer service" dude was kind but useless…he wasn't able to tell me any more than I already knew; my poor cherry tree is dying in transit. I hate this company and truly wish I had read all these other reviews before I ordered from them. Lesson learned the hard way.
Tip for consumers:
Buy elsewhere!

I was a long time customer of Gurneys and was always happy with the seeds and service however over the years I seen a constant drop on product quality and service my latest and last transaction ever was placed in March 2022 we are now June 20th and I'm still waiting on my last plant to arrive, seeds are non consistent at germinating (probably old) and to add insult to injury when some of my plants arrived yesterday the substituted one bell pepper. Enjoy Gurney Seed and Nursery that's the last dollar you get from me

Don’t buy from them you are better off buying locally

DO NOT BUY PLANTS FROM GURNEY'S! I ordered 12 tomato plants from this nursery. They arrived poorly packaged. They were not able to get fresh air. Instead of being in starter pots they were wrapped BARE ROOT in plastic... TWICE. They were yellow and limp. They were not properly hardened for zone 3. DEspite this I decided to go ahead an plant them because I am generally pretty good at bringing sad lants back to life. NOT THESE. They are all dead. It only took 3 days! STAY AWAY!
Tip for consumers:
Don't.

They used to be a real nursery, but have turned into some kind of aggregator or secondary shipper. They have no quality control, and absolutely no gardeners or nursery people! Customer service is overseas, and they cannot connect you to anyone who knows anything about the plants they sell. I was sold "thornless" boysenberries that are filled with thorns. When I called to ask about the plants, I was appalled that they had no way to let me speak or email anyone who even knows what a boysenberry is.

I ordered 3 packets of seeds and small planting pots in one order. The 3 sets of seeds I ordered all showed to be in stock. The first package of seeds I received had an expired date on them. The next package of seeds I ordered only had 5 seeds in them (package said 15). I have yet to receive the 3rd packet, with no explanation. I have emailed the company, with no answer. You can not get anyone on the phone currently either. I want a refund on the seeds that are expired, and the rest of the seeds and an explanation as to why I never received an email on why they were backordered when they showed to be in stock. I won't order again with this kind of lack of communication.

Placed a simple order for seeds on Feb 4th. Received an email on the 7th saying the ordered shipped and should arrive in 10 business days. Called today, the 27th of the month to let them know I had not gotten anything yet. They now say to wait until March 15th to see if the seeds arrive!
If they shipped on the 7th and it takes 10 business days to receive, then the order is either lost or never went out. Not hard to figure out!

I placed an order of potatoes in March. I tried to get a status update several times, but no luck. I checked the website and it passed the estimated ship date of April 14th. Finally at the end of April it said backorder until June. Why couldn't they have said it up front, or sent me an email letting me know they couldnt fufill my order as promised?

It should be against the law for Gurney's to charge for the HORRIBLE so-called plants that they send out to people! My tomato plants that I received look like something that would have been thrown out by Burpee plant company! Do not waste you time even looking at their catalog and definitely Do Not order from Gurney!
