I have ordered from Gurneys in the past, they sent smaller than expected items but had good prices ( with a coupon). Fast forward to a Juilet cherry bush ordered 3 months ago. The estimated shipping date keeps changing. Upon contacting an employee last week, they said my order would be put on "rush". Not sure what type of rush they are in, but my order still hasn't shipped. Unfortunately the "prime" warm day/cooler night window is rapidly closing in my region. Roots need this weather to get established and I will have to work WAY harder to make sure my cherry bush stays alive (if it ever shows up). Absolutely disgusted with this company and will never order from them again.

I just bought tomato and pepper plants. When they arrived after being in the mail for 9 days the peppers were needing water but still green, the tomato plants were in horrible shape and probably sick when they were shipped. Whole plant yellow, most of the leaves off or dead. I have emailed customer service twice with no answer.

Jan 8 0rdered5 trees all in stock.April 16 received one tree saying the other 4 out of stock. You can see from my photos how irate I am.What is their gimmick. They had guaranteed payment. Why do they do this and shamefully say sorry.Causing a loss of enjoyment.Who supervises this blatant fraud.
Tip for consumers:
Disclaimer eventhough it is in stock today.Dont expect to get it.

I ordered 3 tango hummingbird mint plants. They were all dried out and dead when they arrived. Even worse, when I called to report this, the customer service representative did not act like this was unusual. She was rude. Whatever happened to class? If she worked for me, I'd fire her. I got my money back, but to be honest, a simple apology should be STANDARD procedure. These plants are packaged in such a way that you have to literally tear into the hard plastic that surrounds the tiny seedlings. So even if the seedlings were alive, you'd probably kill them trying to get to them! I have dealt with mail order plants before and never had any problems.

Took too long for my order to come, customer service gave me incorrect information about my order ( they told me my order didn't go through, when it actually did) looks more like a 2 long stick instead of apple tree. Almost 3 weeks now and no signs of growing yet. It's end of April in Philadelphia and all fruit trees finished booming by now, mine doesn't have any signs of any leaves or anything :( don't think I would order again from this company

I bought seed and tomato plants from them for first time... won't do it again. The live plants didn't look robust and healthy when they arrived ( on time as promised) and now 7 weeks in the ground they haven't grown at all - still look like the day they arrived. Sweet corn, sunflower seeds have failed and the peas are sporadic. I'm an experienced country girl and will go back to the tried and true names. 2017 garden is a write off... so disappointed

HORRIBLE. Bought items that showed up in the winter. Returned them in spring as told to. Spent nearly a year trying to get a refund, as they didn't have anymore stock I wanted. Now that they sold out to Gurney's, the store credit doesn't work either. Total rip off.
DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS TRASHY COMPANY!

Customer service was a joke

I ordered plants that needed to be planted in early spring. I was told that they would be shipped the first week in April. They kept delaying my shipment back by two weeks. Then today (May 22) my order was cancelled without any kind of communication from them.
I took time to kill the grass on my hill for these plant, and I was ready to plant them in early spring. I wish I could rate them negative stars.

Do not waste your time no matter how good the price

My first order from Gurney's will be my last. Their shipping methods assured that the plants that they DID ship would arrive gasping for life. I'm not certain how healthy they were to begin with. Hard to tell when the plants are nearly dead.
Two items still have not shipped. The original dates were approximately 2 months ago. I doubt that my tomato plants will have time to produce tomatoes and my lilac, who knows.
Expensive and unreliable. No communication. Never again. You lost a customer and I will always tell others who ask to avoid Gurneys at all costs. I have ordered from some wonderful online sources. Gurneys is NOT one of them.
Tip for consumers:
Look somewhere else

Ordered all my garden seeds over three weeks ago as to start garden indoors for transplanting. Still no seeds have arrived. Next year, I'll order seeds from China, they are much faster. Oh yes,. I only live 200 miles from Gurneys too.
Tip for consumers:
Don't buy seeds from here gurneys seed co

This is not the Gurney's from a decade ago. They used to have great quality plants and seeds and excellent customer service. After they were bought out by some mega-corporation, they became rude, dismissive, and don't care about the quality of their stuff. I placed an order in February and they took my money right away but never shipped part of the order. They kept stringing me along claiming items were back ordered and then finally in May said the item was out of season and offered a partial refund. I will never order from them again. I recommend that if you get emails from them, mark them as spam and never buy anything from them.

Extremely disappointing. Waited a long time for the order to ship and even though my money was taken, the product shipped was not complete. When I called I was informed that they could no longer fill my order (way to let me know ahead of time!), but I would get a reimbursement. This level of customer service is at the very least inadequate and at the most an insult. The bulbs were packed loose in a plastic bag and had taken quite a beating. I have ordered from other garden-supply merchants and was pleased with the results... this was practically insulting and showed the least amount of product care I have ever seen, and I spent early 25 years as a Purchasing Supervisor. Shame on you. I will not be buying from you again and will advise members in my gardening club and on-line blog to avoid your service going forward.

I will NEVER order from this company again. Product (if they can even fill the order) is subpar. 1/3 or what they sent did not grow and I grow a wide variety of fruits and vegetables so I'm not a novice gardner. I placed my order and paid the amount indicated. They were unable to fill several items then kept sending me a bill wanting MORE money for the crap they did send. I've called twice now to get it taken care of. Absolutely absurd way of doing business.
Tip for consumers:
Don't bother

I purchased a 10 pack of asparagus crowns from gurney, and they only sent 5 in the package. Either they have dumb illiterate American employees, or illiterate illegal immigrants doing the counting. I mean we are the only counting up to 10 here. How do you mess that up. I can't reach gurney on the phone to help them correct the ai problem. Mean while I have already dug out the trench to plant for 1O. How incompetent can a big company be? Their website is so lame you can't even post a pic. Never order from this company if you are looking for quality service.

Was nice that they didn't ship until time zones said but all live plants were dead when they arrived took days to get to us and none of our seeds grew. We have tried a couple different years and not for our region save money and time we babies ours inside house for weeks with taking th out for sun. Don't work for our area.
Tip for consumers:
What does it matter for credit if plants-seeds don’t work. Free shipping only if you spend a certain amount of money.

I bought several tomato plants from them last spring. They arrived late and all dried out - very poorly packed in comparison to the burpee website. I have no connection to either. But I would not buy from gurney's again.

Tomato plants were out of stock. I was notified they were "back in stock" on April 10,2020, so I placed my order. Total BS... Gurney's shipped my tomato plant on more than a month later. 100% misleading.

Gurney's sucks... ordered seed potatoes over a month ago. When checking on my order numerous times 3 of the 4 items show "available to ship" but I've received nothing. Now all 4 items show back ordered. Have emailed to cancel my order and get a credit... crickets. Have tried to do an online chat but I get a message it's disabled and can only call. Sitting on hold now for WAY too long. Will never order from this company again.

We have done business with Gurneys for 50 years. Received two packets of cucumbers that arrived with no seeds in a large order. We Asked for a replacement and they wanted to charge $5.00 to ship. They would only take a 55 cent stamp on an envelope to ship. FIVE DOLLARS, are you kidding me? Called them back and asked to be taken off their catalog list.
Tip for consumers:
That they were not gracious enough to replace missing seeds free of charge, no shipping charge.

Peas last year didn't come up nor did the beets. 2 Plantings of each. Decided tp try again this year. I have been totally satisfied till last year. Figured it was a fluke! Beets only 1/2 came up. Ordered some plants. Pepper plants were great. Tomatoes on the other hand. Several were dead on arrival one didn't even have a plant in it Planted 4 of 10. Looking like they wont make it either! Disgruntled!
Wont order again!

Ordered 9 bare root raspberry canes. Received 3 plants in peet pots. 2 are alive, the third not so much. I have reported this issue to Gurney's twice and so far have received no response. They did acknowledge shipping was short so I received credit for 6 of the "plants"

I was able to speak with a live person in customer service, but they did not resolve my concerns about a shipping date. I had asked that my shipment be delayed until I could possibly plant the elderberries I ordered without having to dig through three feet of snow. This conversation occurred about two weeks before the shipment was made, so I cannot understand why the shipment could not have been delayed.
The plants were a good price. I hope the quality is good.

Despite claims that seeds would be shipped for timely planting in my zone, most of my order arrived too late for optimal planting. After over a month of waiting, I purchased seeds locally, and emailed Gurney's asking my order to be cancelled. This resulted in Gurney's sending me an email two hours later stating that my order was shipping.
Other issues - items that were in stock at time of order, were not shipped. I received notifications weeks after placing the order that stock for specific items was depleted and would not ship.

"The message I sent to Gurney's) Received the above order #*******200 and to say the least very disappointed in the quality of not only the trees but the way they were packaged. The one tree was no bigger than a pencil diameter and the other was slightly bigger. They came wrapped in plastic and a few newspaper shreds that I guess were supposed to encase the roots. The trees were out of the plastic wrapping when I opened the box and the roots were dried out. I have ordered trees from other nurseries and they came with the roots wrapped in wet, grass like substance. For the amount I paid for these trees I would think you would take better care of shipping and handling. I took pictures of the items I am writing about but do not see where I can attach them. If this is the normal for your company this will be the last order. Jay Miller

I placed my order January 24th 2023. I was given a shipping date of 1/30/23 with 4 weeks to deliver. I only ordered seeds ($100). My planting season for starting the seeds starts in April at the latest. By May I want a 3" to 6" plant. It is now 4/25/23 and I still do not have my seeds. They are not lost, they did not ship until the end of April. If and when I ever get my seeds, it is way too late to plant them this year.
Tip for consumers:
It is less stressful and more beneficial for you if you just take your money and burn it. At least you would get some heat, vs nothing but frustration.
