Gurney's has a rating of 1.1 stars from 212 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Gurney's most frequently mention customer service, tomato plants, and credit card problems. Gurney's ranks 96th among Plants sites.
I paid $140 for one live tree and three dead ones. Gurney's ignored my emails and I had to report their charge to my Credit Union as a fraudulent charge. Total ripoff. Do not buy from this company.

Save yourself the headache and disappointment and AVOID this company. There are plenty of hardworking, reliable and honest seed and nursery companies in America, which grow and ship from America.
CHECK THE BBB (better business bureau) for the complaints and issues going back years.
If you decide to purchase from this company, you will be angry and disappointed. When you try and contact customer service, you will sit on hold, get hung up on and worst of if you are lucky enough to get through, you will be speaking to INDIA!
Save your money. BUY AMERICAN!

Shipment eas made late only after I called customer service. The plants were either dead or not viable.

I had ordered a large packet of the ruby red carrots to fulfill a fall order to two large restaurants, who had previously purchased products our small business made. I planted enough seed on a rainy day, and followed through with regular watering. Because this was a late summer planting with expected picking after early frost (October) which increases the sugar content, I made sure that even if there was only a 50% germination rate, it would give me enough product to make the sales. After a few weeks, less than 1% germinated! I scrabbled to find similar seed from other companies but to no avail. I communicated the problem with customer service and all they offered was credit for future purchases, yeah right! I had to contact the restaurants and they were not happy. With everything going on since Covid-19, they decided not to do any future business with my company. For a small business, the loss of an average $1,500 purchases each was a blow to me. They are well -established and were going to spread my good reputation for my 6 year old business. I'm really screwed because of the failings of this company. I even shared with customer service, the impact of these bad seeds but nothing but sorry and is there anything I needed to buy! I suggested a larger type of refund, which went nowhere. You couldn't pay me enough to ever do business with Gurney's again! Any catalog sent will be used for firewood kindling. Good riddance!

I ordered two jujube trees from Gurney's on 11/14/20 and none of them are growing leaves until today, I have contacted the company two time via E-mail and never got a reply.
Tip for consumers:
I'm not recommended to order trees from this company.

I will never ever ever order from gurney's again. All 3 tomato plants arrived dead. They arrived today and I carefully unpackaged them and I've included a photo of how they look. Pathetic!

I used to order from gurneys years ago. So when I wanted to order plants it was the first place I looked for. My mistake. I ordered two orders of strawberry plants. Ten plants per order. The order was placed on 5/28/19 and didn't get shipped until 5/31/19. Not a huge timeframe but definitely not good. They sent it fedex smart post and the estimated delivery time was 6/11/19. That's right... almost two weeks for live plants to be getting thrashed around and sitting with no soil and water. The package sat in one location for four days idle. Are you friggin kidding me? I sent a message to gurneys asking if they would be ok... no answer. I sent another the next day and finally the following day they responded giving me the normal crap from customer service. Finally today on the 11th of June we got the package in a plastic packing bag. No box, no real protection from anything being banged or thrown on them. I opened the package and several of the green plant parts were broken from the roots. I will give them that some were still intact but the plants were dry as bone. Thanks for your caring handling of peoples hard earned money gurneys. NEVER will I order again from you. You are not a trustworthy company any longer. Too bad.

I am glad I only purchased one small plant from them. It was shipped on schedule but that is were positive experiences end. Apparently they ship FedEx post which is advertised as an economical (cheaper) means. Tracking information initially gave a reasonable date but that kept changing and my package was on a weird journey. Finally a dead plant arrived after after a week. Interestingly my Chewy order was sent from the same town as the Gurney order and was shipped by regular FedEx. It arrived the next day. A 35 lb bag of dog food cost me less in delivery charge than a 7oz plant. I sent a email to gurney thinking they may really not know how long it was taking for their orders to be delivered. I received an automated reply with a case number and a promise that I would hear back. So far that has not happened. EDITED- I received a reply and a gift certificate for the amoubt I had spent. The lemon grass I originally wanted was out of stock. I found a tomato plant in the same price range so I can watch to see if it takes the same bizarre route. I will update when it arrives

Would not recommend this company. Customer service is terrible. No return calls,. Eternal holds... you do not deal with the same company you order from!

We put our order in over a month ago. I noticed that many of the items was backordered into June on at least 4 items. The site listed the dates that items would ship but this week all dates are gone! So I have no clue as to when I should expect them!
I've been emailing the company for close to two weeks now to get information on how to cancel backordered items. I've not received ANY response. Their website has a Cancel Order button so I filled it out but it states I cannot cancel due to "order been already shipped" which is not true & this is misleading. There is NO shipping or tracking information.
The order was for $189.90
It seems as if the business is ignoring customer concerns & just forcing them to accept their inability to fulfill orders. This was our second order with the company. Orders are split up & not sent until certain times. We ordered from another seed company last week & our order has already been shipped! Gurneys is not fulfilling their promise as a company & is misleading. We will not be using them again for fruits & vegetable seeds/plants.
Tip for consumers:
Avoid using Gurneys unless you don't mind unsure shipping dates

If I could give them negative five stars I would!
I bought a 2 in 1 Asian pear and when I received it (as a bareroot which they don't tell you!) I planted it right away according to their (somewhat limited) planting instructions. The tree was super dirty, like it was buried in clay mud before being shipped. I took pictures which is why you can see the dirt still on it.
I called them right away to tell them my tree was NOT a 2 in 1 and it took forever to find someone to help me because I had to email several times. Then I was told that no, it was a 2 in 1. I sent pictures, they said oh see that tiny bump there? That's the graft. I squinted in disbelief but said well maybe it's a tiny graft, though it doesn't look like it. They said that bump by the tiny branch is the graft... Hmm...
They also said the tree would produce in a year or two. Well, my tree is three years old now and not a flower not a fruit nothing except the ONE tree it still is. No graft. Is it any wonder their warranty is only for one year. They too my money and laughed all the way to the bank.
FRIGGIN SCAMMERS!
I also bought seeds from them at the same time as the tree and well, none of them germinated. So yup, never buying from this place again!
Tip for consumers:
RUN AWAY SCREAMING IF POSSIBLE. This is NOT a trustworthy site!

Back in March I ordered 2 vines, a hardy Carolina Jasmine and a Hops vine nugget. I really should have listened to the reviews, because as it turned out it was a complete waste my time and my money. In June I was advised that they didn't have the Jasmine for which I was given a refund.
I received the hops vine in May it didn't look good but I hoped it would grow, unfortunately it didn't grow. When I called customer service I was advised it was very slow growing and to wait a bit. I did further research after hanging up with customer service and read its a very fast growing vine. I called back spoke with another representative she offered me a credit which I didn't want because I will NEVER order from them again. I asked for any other vine they have in stock, the only thing this had was the hops vine so she sent me a replacement. I can't believe they sent out what they did which was a dead twig in soil. I called customer service today asking for a supervisor was advised someone would call me back. I am writing this review 6 hours after my call and no one has called me back. As a avid gardener I have always found from the many companies I have purchased soooooo many plants from lol, that they always went out of their way to resolve any issues. NOT GURNEY'S...
Don't waste your money.

The tree I ordered never arrived. They said it had shipped. Since they had shipped it somewhere, they refused to reverse charges. Never again!

They charge high prices for tiny inferior plants. They take MONTHS to send seeds.
The asparagus plants I bought on Amazon, 2 years in a row, were thick, juicey, with nubs started.
The ones I received from Gurneys, more expensive, were tiny and dried up
The honeyberries I bought from another company were 2 ft tall, for $15.
The Gurneys cost $30 each and were 6 inches tall!
I ordered black raspberries and they sent me BLACKBERRIES!
Don't buy from them, you'll be disapointed.

Also... hybrid means they don't produce seeds after 1st run... aka they have been genetically modified so have 2 keep buying. You want: NON-GMO, NON-HYBRID HEIRLOOM SEEDS!. DEMAND SEEDSNOW.COM ALLOWED 2 REOPEN. RESIST NWO. BAN 5G

I have gotten plants from many different catalogues and decided to try Gurneys this year. I ordred in February right after I got my catalogue. The week they were sending me most of my order in May I got a note saying one of the items was not in stock. They should have told me that in Feb. When I could have ordred it elsewhere.
We were told over a week before they shipped the order that we would have record breaking heat the following week. They sent the plants when it was over 90 degrees. They traveled 3 days in that heat and arrived in terrible condition. Plants were dead or badly damaged. In the past from other farms i got plants that were nicely developed, around 10" tall. From Gurney I got plants that were 2" to 4" tall.and in terrible condition Only the Rosemary was taller. I called and had to spend an hour with an agent going over numbers many times trying to get her to replace the dead plants. I hope they send them this week as the weather is cooler.
Needless to say I will not buy from them again. I emailed them and never got a response. And when I called again about something else i had the same problem with the agent.

Called and told them five of my eight honeyberry plants arrived dead. They told me I have to wait five weeks to make sure. I said they will be hearing from me in five weeks. This is not the Gurneys I grew up with. They can barely speak English. NOT ONE MORE PENNY FROM ME AND YOU CAN TAKE THAT TO THE BANK.

Well I have ordered seed from them and plants. I can tell you about the seed right now. The seeds I bought were Kale along with several others. I will say I love the Kale seeds they are extremely easy to grow. We had very delicious Kale this past season. I planted artichoke and they just popped right up. I planted Beets oh my goodness I love pickled Beets... well they came up just fine also. I have had seeds that are mixed with other seeds for whatever reason. I don't really care why they are mixed but I don't like it. I like planting and growing the seeds that I ordered and not different varietys of that seed. So Gurney's well let me tell you what I have absolutely no problem with them. I did think they had forgot to ship some plants but they I looked at the order status and they ship them out when the window is good for your state and also when the season is right also. I like that too. I like getting the things I am suppose to grow in the proper season to plant them. I prefer getting citrus trees in the warmer months. Well you know what I mean. Anyway I love their customer service also they are extremely helpful when you need them.

Well, here it is October 8th and I finally got the rest of my order, a diseased looking raspberry plant. Mind you, I placed my order on February 24th, and received the bulk of my order in July, when the order was supposed to be shipped in April... I received 70 strawberry crowns, 60 of which were completely DOA. The blueberry "bush," huckleberry "bush," and 3 raspberry runners were alive, but ridiculously puny considering the price i paid for them. When I emailed them about this, I was promptly sent a run of the mill response about plants being under stress during shipping. Um, I've been gardening for 13 seasons now, and I most certainly don't know it all, but I can tell the difference between a stressed plant and a dead one. I sent another email a few week later with pictures of the dead crowns and never received a response back... So for around $100, I received a scraggly blueberry bush, a 4inch huckleberry bush, 3 raspberry runners, a diseased raspberry plant and 10 strawberry crowns... Unbelievable Gurney's. You're poor customer service and horrendous product quality lost you guys a lot of business, because I've let all of my gardening friends know.
