My husband and I live in a small rural country town, the nearest major shopping (grocery stores, fast food) is over an hour away. We usually drive into town twice a month, to stock up on groceries and necessities. But it's hard to keep perishables fresh, long enough to use before they go bad. We have come to depend on canned, boxed and frozen foods. So, our meals have become stale, boring and routine. Home Chef revived us: fresh ingredients, new cuisines, great recipes, great meat and vegetable choices, and we live within delivery!
I have gotten boxed meals for over a year and a half from several companies. A few have been great and some not so good. Home Chef has some really good recipes at an affordable price. However, their customer service is the worst by far! After receiving a box that had ants all through the box I tried to contact customer service via phone. They were closed at the time so I sent an email with pictures attached. This was on a Wednesday. It is now Monday and I cannot get a hold of them by phone. As has been the case everyday, the call is dropped after the first ring. And the have yet to answer either of my two emails. I had added an extra meal to that order to make matters ever worse. I'm very disappointed and will be cancelling my subscription and going back to Hello fresh. Their customer service is fantastic.

Best to be home or close by when delivered, so that ice packing doesn't melt

They are great if you never have any issues. Forget customer service...they are lacking in that department.
We've been using Home Chef for almost six months now and love the service.
Compared to similar offers Home Chef meals are the fastest with the least pans and pots required to prepare the meals, easy clean up.
Ingredients have always been fresh. Even at outside temperatures of 90 degrees plus the food stays cool sitting outside all day. Recently they improved the meat packaging after we had leakage problems a few times in the past.
We did encounter missing items twice but it was minor things that we were able to substitute. We also received a credit from their customer service.
I wish the folder that comes with the first order was bigger. We like to keep the recipes and use them whenever we need a simple side dish.
Subscribed to this service for a few months... 3 meals for two, every week. Most deliveries had one or more ingredients missing. Several times food was damaged or spoiled. It was well packed and still cold, so it was bad when it was put in the package. There's just no excuse for that. Got tired of having to go to my own pantry to make up for missing items. Also portions were always small considering the price. It's just not worth the cost or hassle, so I cancelled. They didn't seem all that bothered by losing another customer.
Their ad promised meals for $7.99 but once I signed up, the total for 3 meals came to over $56.00. After finding out there is no way to cancel your account, I contacted "Support" who promised my information would be deleted so that my account would effectively be cancelled.
Imagine my surprise this morning when, even though I didn't place an order or even put anything in the shopping cart, there is a mysterious charge for $29.80 on my credit card. No one at Home Chef will even acknowledge my attempts to contact them so I've contacted my bank about this unauthorized charge. If there's still no response by Monday, I'll be filing a police report for theft.
Maybe they'll respond to negative reviews.
So yes, they lied and then they stole from me.
I have been ordering 3 meals a week for several months now. All orders arrived on time, never any billing problems and 8 out of 10 meals are good. There were only two times that they got an order wrong or less than desirable but I got immediate handling from customer service.
HOWEVER I got to thinking about the food and especially the meats. I thought I was being supplied with hormone and antibiotic free meats. But after scouring the website I couldnt find this claim anywhere. So I emailed customer service and discovered that their meats are not clean. They have been sending meats filled with hormones and antibiotics.
This is a big deal breaker with me and I sent an email saying so. They cancelled my account within about 1 minute of me sending the email.
And so it goes... if you want to eat clean, Home Chef should not be your choice.
I had a total of 9 meal kits delivered and I'm done wasting money. I used all kits within one week of delivery and I've had several problems from missing products, expired products (sour cream, naan bread), bad produce (either vinegar smell from being expired or soggy potato's), and on 2 occasions liquid from a product leaked out and covered all the other ingredients (both times were from bagged veggies). Not to mention, everything is covered in plastic! It made me feel like such a wasteful person pulling green onions or carrots out of a plastic bag. Just buy fresh ingredients from the store cause their produce is far from fresh.
Honestly, the food isn't bad.
What I have a major problem with is that I waited for DAYS after the scheduled delivery date to receive my box. This happened on multiple occasions. Needless to say, I was expecting a timely delivery and when my meals never showed, I was stuck without anything to cook for dinner.
On top of that, when my last box eventually DID show up, everything inside it was warm, including the ice packs. I opened the box as soon as it was delivered, so it's not like it was sitting for a long period of time. I had to throw the entire thing out!
I would NOT recommend Home Chef... unless you enjoy late deliveries and room temperature, raw chicken.
Food is okay but if you ever have an issue, expect to be out of pocket with absolutely no customer service. I skipped a few weeks in advance but apparently one week did not go through their system properly. I only found this out after seeing a $139 charge on my account. I contacted customer service who basically told me it was my fault and they will not give me a full refund. So, I'm out of pocket and the world is wasting food!
I've been using this service for about 6 months. I like the recipes and most turn out great; however, at least once a month I end up of missing ingredients or the ingredients (usually sauces) have spilled out into the packaging. I've contacted customer service several times and have yet to receive a response. I am now looking at other options.
Update (4/19/17) - I am getting responses not pretty quickly from customer service and they are applying partial credits when items are missing. Also, I was missing an ingredient for another meal just recently. :(
We received a gift card for HomeChef.com and used it. Overall, the service is fairly expensive and has very limited options. The limitations become very rigid if you avoid fish and dairy - one week, we only had three possible dishes to choose from.
On the last week, they left out one item from the order. When asked to correct this, they instead gave us a partial credit to use for future orders. Since the gift card's out of funds, we're not going to place further orders - so we can't get the missing item unless we buy another week's worth of food!
I ordered one delivery (2 menus) at a discount to try it once. The actual delivery was as promised and arrived very cold, on time. But it's too expensive in my book, and they charge your credit card about 5 days before you receive the food. I liked the food but it only comes in servings of 3 so with a family of 4 I wanted to cancel. Their website is a "train wreck". It doesn't offer you a log in on the home page. I had to search the web for advice from other customers about how to log in. When I managed that, the first headline said "sorry, we don't deliver to that zip code." Allegedly, you cannot cancel, you just "pause service." The calendar delivery tab does not offer a PAUSE service button. I was on hold for 11 minutes twice, finally was allowed to leave a "non-urgent" message that cut me off after maybe 15 seconds. I am considering paying my bank $30 to stop payment because I am getting food that I was not allowed to select and doesn't fit our dietary needs.
If you receive a messed up order, don't expect any sympathy, refund, or exchange. And surly don't miss your 6 day contact window or they won't even take your complaint. So I'm out $50 and didn't even get so much as an apology for their error. Bad service recovery model and I hope they go bankrupt.
I signed up a couple of weeks ago. However, within minutes, after checking the menu, I realized the menu would not work for us. I followed the instructions online to cancel the subscription immediately. It said my subscription was paused. I received an email confirming the cancellation. I did not know that the first order was already processing. In order to cancel that order, today the customer service rep said I should have called customer service. No where did it say to do that. This morning I received an email that I was getting a shipment. Before I could even call, the order was at my door! When I spoke to Alex in customer service, he said there is nothing they can do. I am stuck with an order, most of which we will not eat! What a way to run a company!
My third box just arrived opened and damaged. I called customer service and explained this is not the way I am used to seeing the packaging. It appears as if someone went through the ingredients. I requested she put a claim with fed ex, she refused and stated that it was "probably safe to eat" no one is going to tampered it! Really? Not for my family! I asked her to cancel my subscription and she was fine with dad. Great treatment of your customers Home Chef
Their business model is based on fraud and deception. Their cryptic cancellation process is designed to trap you into receiving orders for life. Once you give them your credit card number, they will scam you if you ever try to cancel. They're a vindictive company... sorry I ever got involved.
Tip for consumers:
You'll wish you didn't.
I gave this company so many chances. I think out of about 12 boxes one may have been correct. Boxes consistently arrived thawed and warm, unsafe. Ingredients were nearly always missing. Customer service would usually issue a credit for incorrect orders but going through the process of throwing out food and having to go back and forth with homechef to get my money back was ridiculous.
My final straw was when I received an email from the account department berating me for using coupons THEY MAILED TO ME.
This company will never get my business and I will tell everyone who will listen how pathetic they are.
Tip for consumers:
Buyer beware!
Getting Asian beauty products can be tricky in Canada, with shipping times and dollar exchange rates. Noracora has good prices and tracked shipping and has never disappointed me! They have a wide variety of things and I can always find what I'm looking for.
I heated the Sunday pot roast with vegetables (I bought@ Kroger last Friday) for lunch today and it was so acidic & vinegary I threw it out. It acid burned my tongue. How could anything so terrible pass a critique?

I used to love this company but since March 2020, my deliveries have been consistently late or simply not happened. I finally cancelled my account and demanded a refund because I need groceries that I can count on getting here, especially now. Sad to see, but I will have to try something else
Delivery was short protein for one of the 5 dishes received. Contacted customer service on a Saturday night, was generously refunded by Sunday. Found no fault in their customer service response to correcting their error.
Never received my orders, shipped from Chicago, orders changed to Georgia as my other orders received on time and the meat was still cold to touch. Received third order tonight shipped out of Georgia, the only thing in the box was two bags of beef steak that were hot to touch. Not sure what is going on with this company, my first 6 months of delivery was great. Do not order from this company until the get their $#*! straight. The want to credit your account and not reimburse it buyer beware.
I have a busy lifestyle and a job that has me in the car 50,000 miles per year. Squeezing in time for shopping and meal prep is challenging. I've started to use meal delivery services to ensure we always have a healthy meal ready even when I'm too tired or busy to go grocery shopping. Although the meals seem expensive compared to doing your own shopping, my grocery expense (including the meal deliver cost) has gone down dramatically. Maybe because of less impulse buys?
Meals have been about 80% awesome, 20% blech. I'm getting better at determining which meal is likely to taste good.
Home Chef has rarely sent out the wrong ingredients, or missing ingredients. Produce is almost always fresh, meat has been amazingly high quality.
Meals are usually very filling and the nutrition profiles of most of them are excellent for folks who are nutrition-conscious. High protein, lower in carbs, etc.
"Home Chef" is incredible and I love their recipes. However, I have noticed recently, that the produce and meat are not as good as they used to be. I received chicken breasts last month that I had to discard immediately upon arrival due to their lack of freshness, but then they delivered to me better one!

On my very first order Home Chef sent the song items. Things were not matched together, and there were a bunch of items I don't eat. The portions were incredibly small. Supposed to be for 2 people but are less than the portion one person usually eats. I had to throw it all away. I couldn't find where to get help on their website. They must have hidden that because they mess up so much.
Our weekly deliveries of fresh, perfectly-portioned ingredients have everything you need to prepare home-cooked meals in about 30 minutes.
