I had a terrible experience with this company. After quickly submitting all of the requested information, I waited weeks and then heard that they would not give me a loan because my home is owned by an LLC or similar business entity. My home is not owned by an LLC or business entity and this is easily proven to be the case. They will not provide any more info despite me asking repeatedly. My Hometap rep is terrible, slow and seemingly incompetent. I do not know if this is a scam and they are trying to steal my identity or if they are just a bumbling mess of an organization. I cannot imagine having a good experience with them.
I have shaky credit because of a business issue that is being addressed. My wife has perfect credit. We applied for a Hometap Investment because of the advertised speedy closing. This was not the case, our rep. Brad took FOREVER with every document and I would have to send him 2 and 3 emails reminding him about our file. Not all his fault, in the end, they rejected our investment because of my credit issues… wouldn't they have seen this right at the beginning when they pulled my credit instead of also pulling my wife's credit and dragging us along for over 2 months. TOTAL WASTE OF TIME! STAY AWAY FROM HOMETAP!
DO NOT DO IT.
They low ball the value of your home, offer a percentage based on that- then HIGH BALL the value of your home when it comes time to pay them back.
I received a $51K loan to help me deal with the impact of COVID. Because of the massive impact COVID had on my business, I now have to sell my home of 12 years. This is just 3 years after I got the initial loan...and this loan's payback is $98K! THAT'S NEARLY DOUBLE.
These people should be ashamed of themselves.
It's exploiting and taking full advantage of people in their time of need.

Hometap was the worst thing to happen to my family and I. I wasted 3 months waiting on them just to disqualify me because of past due mortgage payments. I started this process of 8/17/23 with hopes of getting this done before my next mortgage payment was due. I can't pay my bills because I have CML( CHRONIC MYELOID LEUKEMIA) which had me unable to work. Erin kept telling me that if I get all my documents in on time then we should be on time. We'll I did. It took them almost three weeks to get my title back. All while my bills are piling up. They stress how there are here to help but more so like harm. I explained to them how important this was because cancer don't understand or have patience. Because of hometap my score went down and I'm past due on my mortgage and can not get help from another company. They kept telling me that they understood with I was going through but they didn't. They didn't care about the stress this was causing me. The stress of fighting for my life ever single day. The stress of my kids scared when I'm sick because they relate cancer to death. None of that matter to them because I'm just another client. I email the CEO and was up-front about my situation. Him and the VP of sales ( Daniel Amato) act like they where going to help me but nothing at all. Now my family and I are looking at foreclosure because I trusted in there word. I don't think people really understand the severity of having cancer and the impact it has on the person fighting it and the family. This company is not out to help people. Thank you for giving me the run around just to disqualify me because of you guys dropping the ball. Thx to you guys I can lose everything.
