“Best care”

Fedra T.
5/1/24

I recently had a procedure and I was originally so afraid. The nurses held my hand and assured me that everything would be fine. Before i knew it, it was over. So much after care support. I am very happy at Kaiser

“Why doesn't California do something about Kaiser?”

M H.
8/23/24

I have had a detached retina and subsequent cataract rendering me legally blind in my eye. Surgery was needed. Kaiser put me in line and made me wait 3.5 months for "elective" eye surgery. One week before surgery, Kaiser cancelled my surgery and said I had to wait three additional months. When I asked why I don't go to the front of the line since I've already waited three months, the brainwashed doctor(s) said that is not how Kaiser works. That will make six months of no work and income for my family. Why doesn't the State see Kaiser has signed up too many people, taking their 15k a year, and will not provide services. Since Kaiser is self-policed by having internal investigations for wrongdoing, they circle the wagons and keep on victimizing patients. California, step up and stop these atrocities from occurring. Stop them from signing up any more companies or patients until they can perform in a humane way.

This company is the worst thing I have ever dealt with. Every time I want to make an appointment it takes 45 minutes to set an appointment and the customer service reps are absolutely horrible to deal with. I miss the days of my old insurance where I would just call the doctors office directly and talk to someone very sweet and caring and sett an appointment immediately and get in within a week or two. I called this week telling them that my hand has been numb for sometime and I need to be seen. They told me it would be three months before I could be seen. That is purely unacceptable. Effective immediately I have canceled my insurance with Kaiser because I can't take the difficulty in setting appointments and the horrible disorganization of their billing system. My son was in the hospital on and off for two years and it took me three years to get everything straightened out with them which held me to staying with them this long. Now that I have all of that worked out (after shedding many tears) to try to get someone to help me with the billing I am now leaving Kaiser for good. I spent well over 20 hours on the phone with them to get my billing straightened out. Come to find out they sent a lump sum check to Northside Hospital and never designated the payment to be placed under my account. Northside told me that Kaiser is an absolute mess to deal with. I highly suggest you go somewhere else for insurance even if you have to pay a little bit more I promise calling the doctors office directly to make appointments and having a doctors office that cares about you is much better than dealing with these people. Customer service treats you very poor when you try to make a doctor appt, they have even hung up on me when I would not disclose to them my exact issue and that I only needed to tell my OBGYN this information. This happened twice. Horrible! I canceled my companys group plan and I feel liberated to end the cycle of bad treatment, frustration, wasted time on the phone and wasted time trying to work out billing issues. Good bye forever Kaiser!

It is absolutely disappointing to see how bad Kaiser is for its members. None of their doctors or new patient will read the system if a patient is transferring over from another carrier. I had to call over 20+ to get an appointment and still took another 5 calls to finally get an appointment. A complaint was filed with Kaiser Grievance department and they are also not available or will not call back to customer. What's the use of paying $1800 in premium for a platinum package where the services?

The doctors and staff at Kaiser has access to EPIC system which is connected to other healthcare provider. They DONT GIVE A DAMN OF learning about the patients prior history or approvals to smoothen out and speeding up the new onboarding process. Instead they want to dictacte what they want a patient to take as a medication. My wife missed her 20th week examination because Kaiser cannot get us an appointment. Now I am missing my diabetes medication because they want to do their own review and not read the prior doctors notes from another institution. This is absolute BS and lot of rework...

My personal opinion and feedback. Get better care by paying more and less rework... My familys health is more important than the buerarcy that goes on at Kaiser... So I AM OUT OF KAISER and going back to where I came from... Rather pay more than be stressed and frustrated...

Tip for consumers:
IF you dont have money constraints and want to be less stressed... I would look for a different insurance carrier.

Products used:
Kaiser Platinum Package.... Not worth the money... if I have to stressed and frustrated all the time... and noone who wants to help improve the experience.....

The ER at Kaiser Roseville has been neglectful in my care, bordering on malpractice. The doctors there on multiple occasions sent me home without observation of new treatment for a serious heart condition three times in a week. I was repeatedly sent home only to have to go back the next day for the same heart issue. They seemed to have no interest in taking the proper time to make sure any new medications or treatments worked before discharging me, most likely due to their overcrowding problem.

The first visit took 8 hours to be seen and treated, the second visit took 20 and the third visit took 2 days. No accommodations were made for my size, and the small, hard gurneys left my hips and back in tremendous pain, leaving me to suffer for hours in agony. Each time, the rotating doctors would prescribe something new and then rush to discharge me without making sure that the treatment worked, and each time it didn't, I had to come back for the same problem. Three times in the space of a week! In the ER, as many patients were left in hallways as actually had rooms. It was nearly impossible to navigate my wheelchair to get to a room or the bathroom. On the second visit, I finally got a hospital room, but the experience was not a good one. Nurses frequently ignored my calls for help and at one point, when my external catheter failed, I was left sitting in my own urine for 2 hours without assistance. After that, a Dr. Lu changed my medications and sent me home without observation again. Finally, on the third visit, (after a nurse failed to provide my blood thinner on schedule), a Dr. Patel tried to send me home at noon, after just changing my medications a fourth time that morning, I had to advocate for myself and say no, that I didn't feel safe going home and I needed better care. I had to get a patient advocate involved as well.

As they could not provide admittance into the hospital at that point due to overcrowding, I was transferred to Mercy San Juan, and the difference in care, competency and professionalism was astounding. Kaiser should be ashamed for failing to assist a heart patient after multiple visits and just trying to rush me out as soon as possible instead of taking the time to help me at my most vulnerable.

I am a retired senior who is currently on Medicare with a Blueshield HMO plan that manages my medicare. Due to delays in getting in to see specialists I decided to look into Kaiser Permanente. I discussed my issues at length with a sales representative that signs up new members. I was very clear about my concerns in terms of accessing care. Well, after I signed up I started looking for a Dr. near me. I was told by the rep that I could have all my Drs. Under one roof and that the nearest facility was only 3/4 mile away. Sounded great right? Well, guess what that facility has no Dr's available. In fact the closet Dr. s are nearly 10 miles away and there are only a handful, (8) accepting new patients. Most are not educated in the US. Only a few have board certification. I cannot drive easily as I have arthritis in my neck and it is causing very bad headaches. Turning my head to drive it difficult. So driving further than the 2 miles I currently drive to see my primary care is not what I was looking for at all. I tried to cancel the whole plan with no success. In less that two weeks Kaiser will take over my healthcare whether I like it or not. I have yet to get my card after almost three weeks, so I am told I cannot cancel nor can I sign up for a Dr. if one I like becomes available. I am very concerned with all my health issues I am going to be in trouble here with this provider. Their lack of providers in my area is very concerning. And the fact that so many of their Dr's lack board certification concerns me. I most frustrated that I was lied to by the sales representative that assured me there was no shortage of Drs? Only interested in getting a commission at the end of the day. When I called to find out if there was a list of upcoming Dr's I was told what you see is what you get. No help at all. So I will be without healthcare access on Oct. 1 as I will not have a Dr. and all my prescriptions will not be able to be filled. This is not healthcare, it is absolute confusion. Kaiser you need to do better if you want to attract new patients. Stay away, they do not have enough Dr. s and the ones they do have are not all board certified.

Today I was at the Kaiser in San Bernardino ca on Date street I had to go in for blood work and urine, the nurse stopped me like they do every time i go in due to covid which is all good and understandable but whats not understandable is the fact that she refused to let me in saying I couldn't come in because I had my two children with me mind you I have no one that can watch them she began to get loud and super rude with me raising her voice and refused to get her supervisor so I asked the other nurse to please get her supervisor! This nurse was extremely unprofessional extremely rude and shouldn't treat anyone like that. The supervisor came out hot and bothered like i disturbed her and begins to tell me that nurse that was horrible to me has been on vacation and didn't know the new rules then walked away! Didnt pull that nurse aside or anything! Where is the training for these people?! I've had Kaiser for years and years i have NEVER EVER had the treatment I got today! When I asked her her name to give to member services she was so cocky and just rude. The nurses name was Rachel wouldnt give a last name and she was absolutely horrible she definitely picked the wrong career. Worst experience I have ever had at Kaiser!

Subpar, poor quality service by physicians who treat you as an item in a production line. The physicians who are good and actually care for you, do not stay long. Instead of treating the problem, primary care physicians take a wait and see approach. So they pump you up with prescriptions for pain or discomfort and when you express the debilitating side effects they just write new prescriptions for stronger medicine and add a new one. I am not looking to be on medication, I am looking for treatment. Most of the medicine masks the issue or makes you sick. I am not against medication but you can do that in conjunction with other methods and treatments. Maybe some people trust solely in medicine but I am not used to that approach of being medicated as the go to for every issue. If you are looking for a holistic approach, you will not get it at Kaiser, especially not in Georgia. You have to try every medication they can possibly give you before they will refer you to a specialist or alternative effective treatment. You are technically a product on an assembly line and a Guinea pig. Any complaint/grievance you file has a generic, scripted follow up letter sent with no actual action taken. The physicians I have encountered all appear to just do the minimum and just going through the motions of "doctoring". If you ask questions or appear to have knowledge of your issue and engage in conversations about your treatment or ask about other options you are met with disdain and shut down. Is this really medical care or forced managed care? I mean God forbid you need a referral and know you need to see another doctor, they will go through great measures to delay, over medicate and by the time they give you one, you have been overwhelmed with prescriptions and worn out. Its not worth. Better off getting a real medical insurance plan through a PPO to get actual quality care. Where you don't need a referral for simple visits especially when you have an idea or know what is going on with your body.

I took a position in September for the Public Health Institute as a Case Investigator for COVID-19.
My insurance, including Kaiser Permanente Medical coverage, should have activated and allowed me to see doctors by the end of October. Despite my constant urging, dozens of email messages, several phone calls, a visit to a location to provide blood and make an appointment in person, AFTER ALL THIS TIME AND EFFORT... I HAVE YET TO ACTUALLY SEE A DOCTOR!
The doctor assigned to me conducted a phone interview several weeks ago and due to NUMEROUS PRESSING MEDICAL NEEDS, including follow-up to surgical procedures that I was unable to have addressed while suffering under Medi-Cal the last several years, IT WAS AGREED I NEED(ED) AN IN-OFFICE APPOINTMENT IN ORDER TO PROPERLY ADDRESS.
Then, after driving in the pouring rain to make the appointment and to provide the blood ahead of the appointment, after twice going to test for Covid and after taking work off for an afternoon in order to attend the appointment, THE CALLOUS, FLIPPANT DOCTOR CLAIMED THE SHE HAD A "SCHEDULE" CHANGE" AND CHANGED MY APPOINTMENT BACK TO ANOTHER POINTLESS PHONE CALL!
After waiting 40 minutes for that call that never came... well, I left in complete and utter disgust.
And when you call or write or ask or create a grievance, THEY DO NOTHING BUT STALL AND LIE AND WASTE MORE OF YOUR TIME AND NEVER EVEN ATTEMPT TO ADDRESS ANYTHING.
I am now forced to implore my employer to change my insurance as soon as possible TO ANY OTHER OPTION THRU WHICH I MIGHT ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO HAVE MY VERY SERIOUS AND PRESSING MEDICAL NEEDS ADDRESSED!
Kaiser "Permanente" will hopefully be "Temporarily".

I've been with Kaiser since 1990 when they actually had pride in their Healthcare industry. Now all you get is cheap/weak medications. If you are sensitive to fillers in the medication they say they'll fill with the ones I tolerate and then I end up with the cheap garbage! This has been going on for YEARS! I will be leaving today. I've been cussed out by an irate, screaming pharmacist because I showed up exactly when the tech told me to be there but this pharmacy was the only one that was closing early during Covi-Con19! I'm not making this up! The same pharmacy decided that they were refusing to order my medication and I would have to drive my gas hog and extra 18 to 36 miles because they think they can treat people like garbage because they're low income! Come on people! Grow up and take some lessons in professionalism! Every one of you are sadly lacking in integrity and character. If you call, be prepared to go on a phone tag journey to NOWHERE!
I'm a victim of discrimination in more than one category!
If you want to be treated like your wasting their time and you should be kissing their backside just because they answered the phone. Well, look no further. You found the most PATHETIC group of pansies that hate their jobs at Kaiser and they have no problem taking their crappy attitude out on you at all times by saying they are helping but nothing has changed in YEARS & they don't even care.
I actually can't wait to get out of that junk fast food type of health care, care? Lol, they only care about quitting time.
There are so many incidents that I had to keep a diary! It does no good to complain about them getting nothing done but wasting my time and money. Speaking of money. I requested name brand medication and that loser actually said "oh you can't afford name brand " EXCUSE ME? WOW, just wth is wrong with these pharmacy techs? I guess they're sampling the stock. Not funny either! Pathetic losers to treat anyone that way.
I might be disabled but I'm not stupid!
I will miss my primary care physician, I really hope she finds a better network to work with. I'm sure the employed are paid the least out of any health care providers. The suits that are running Kaiser have run it into the ghetto of health insurance companies.
You've been warned!

Tip for consumers:
Beware. Kaiser has their own pharmacy meaning that you get what they give you and you better like it.
