The most horrible customer support and the longest wait times I have ever experienced. I purchased an LLC package with all the bells and whistles to include expedited processing. After two months of waiting, broken promises from customer support ("It will be finished today, we are so sorry for the wait..."), many unanswered questions, no contact, hours on the phone and in chat rooms, and a refusal to refund services not rendered, I cannot recommend LegalZoom.

I had legalzoom create an LLC for me in a different state than my home state on Feb 11. They ended up entering the principal office address as my home address except they put the state the llc was being created in. This made it impossible to create a bank account in the business name. I reached back out to legalzoom to have them correct the mistake. The people who answer the phone are empowered to do very little. Even though it was obviously a mistake by legalzoom, they had to enter the issue into a queue to be taken up by a supervisor at a later date rather than just initiating the process on the phone. Took about 4 days for anyone to reach back out to me (email first) and then eventually a call from a supervisor. I had to sign a few documents and send them back. I have used FaxZero for ever and never had issues using them but for some reason LegalZoom was struggling with the faxes they were receiving. This wouldn't be a problem but it would take 4 or 5 days for LegalZoom to pick up the document and email me that there was a problem with the fax. No phone call, no ownership, despite my issue being an expedited issue. After this happened again and we were delayed another 5 days because nobody takes ownership of issues and just picks up the phone to call the customer I finally mailed the documents to LegalZoom at my cost of $50 to overnight them. They arrived on a Wednesday, were not uploaded to my account until Friday, and then nobody started working on them until Tuesday... again on an expedited issue. I still have no idea on what the status is... have they been updated to the Secretary of State? No communication, no ownership of issues by LegalZoom, impossible to get ahold of a supervisor and the frontline people are not empowered to handle issues.

Tip for consumers:
Dont. If there is an issue, no one at LegalZoom will take ownership of the issue.

Worst customer service, long wait for documents, rude manager (when someone calls you back 5 days later!) would have been better doing it my self.

--The directions online and the person who went through our initial application were wrong about the requirements for the name of a nonprofit, causing the first delay.
--LegalZoom paired us with an attorney who had no non-profit experience. In addition he was 20 minutes late to our 30 minute appointment, he was condescending, and he was thoroughly unprepared.
--We were charged prematurely for our business advantage account.
--The accounting firm LegalZoom partners with completely missed our first appointment. The second appointment was made with another professional with no non-profit experience and he was 15 minutes late to our appointment.
--There is no "submit" button for the form 1023 so if you start on it and continue to work on it, it just submits without your knowledge and then you don't have the ability to get it back to continue working on it.
--You have to click through multiple links (some of which are hidden) on the LegalZoom website to find the tiny, light grey caveat that the "rush processing" for the Express Gold doesn't include the time it takes the State to get through the paperwork. We chose the $359 package over the $99 package specifically for the rush purpose.
--I reached out to LegalZoom three times to find out why our application was delayed. Each time they said they would look into it and get back to me. No one EVER got back to me. I had to reach out again for a fourth time to ask what was happening and they told me the day before we were rejected. It turned out were were rejected because of two errors that were made by LegalZoom, not by us. So we were waiting seven weeks to be rejected because of THEIR errors. Then they refused to do anything to make it right. We had to pay the fee to refile, even though it was THEIR errors that caused the need to refile.

Dishonest, unhelpful, terrible business practices.

I used Legal Zoom to set up an LLC and to let me know what other licenses I needed to apply for to set up my business in California. We did all the paperwork and it was submitted to the state, but apparently we made an error on the application online (although I'm not sure of this because once it was submitted, I couldn't access the application to look at it), so the wrong name was attached to the LLC. I called Legal Zoom, and changed the name to the correct one. Apparently from there they need to submit the change, and then let you know they submitted the change, then let you know they need to charge you the whole amount over again to resubmit. This was after waiting on the phone for 45 minutes on two separate occasions. After much waiting and discussing, I spoke with a supervisor, Kristopher, who said we'd only be charged the state's processing fee, since our application appeared to imply we wanted the name we actually desired for the LLC. Kris apologized, and was very nice about it. He gave me his direct line and said I could call him anytime if I didn't hear anything and he'd get right back to me. I called him no less than 6 times and left messages and he never called me back. So, I had to get on the phone and wait 45 minutes again, to speak with an agent. Supposedly the company has decided we don't owe Legal Zoom any additional money for the reprocessing, so it's going to be resubmitted. On this phone call I was told to expect an email instructing me to sign the new papers within 2-3 days. That has never arrived so once again, I'm waiting on hold for going on 15 minutes now. This service is terrible! In summary, long wait times on phone, no follow through, no personalized service, and they are more than happy to take more money, so be careful!

Legalzoom did not due there dudilegance and provide what I ordered. I was miss informed (lied to) 3x advising my ordered was completeThis was a months process of me waiting. After complaining to BBB and now consumer affairs complaint,they suddently FINALLY respond back but to say the order cant be fullfilled claiming I failed to provdie a questionair. I contacted my will and trust atty whom assisted me with the entire submission and we 100% completed the questonaire as you CAN NOT even submit the order with out it.basically if you dont answer the questions lie your name address phone, etc you cant move forward. Aside from that, when I would log into there portal occassionaly the status would say ON TIME as if there preparing it timely.I chatted with support 2x and spoke to a rep 3x and they all said I would recieve my order with in 24-48 hours or 72 hours or by end of day, as none of them understood why it was taking so long. I was given the option PRIOR to submitting my order to PRINT or pay extra for professional printing. I recieve an email for the very time is weeks, and it relays we tried to call you (LIE) I literally keep my cell phne with me daily, NO MISSED CALL nothing.What dissapoints me the most is I logged into the portal today and everything was wiped out like it never happened. Basically waisted money and time. They could have just been honest and fortwith.Legalzoom takes no accountability for there errors whether technical or there staff. Ide rather them be honest and I deal with it but LIE. The intergrity of this company is smaller than an ant.

Where do I begin? Worst experience ever forming an LLC. I chose legal zoom because this is my first time starting an LLC and was worried about making a mistake, and if I did wanted to be in good hands. I wanted to be with a company who I trusted and could rely on to help me along my journey and process of starting my first company. I didn't care legal zoom cost more money I was more concern with the help I would receive. However, first mistake is filling my LLC With my home address instead of using a virtual address due to me not having an office yet. Legal zoom does not offer an address to use for LLC's when a lot of other companies do but I said to myself that's fine I rather pay extra and obtain my own virtual address than be with a company I don't trust just for that perk. First mistake, needing to change the address after filling for LLC. I was misinformed multiple times about the process. Filling an amendment, not filling an amendment. It was back and forth. I paid to file amendment to update address was told that was wrong and was refunded only to be called a week lady by a manager to let me know I was yet misinformed again and needed to file an amendment and that my EIN is still on hold and I do not need to contact the IRS for change of address which was wrong too. I had received the EIN number already even though it was supposed to be on hold so I wouldn't have to contact the IRS which is extra work for me. The phone call with the manager took another 2 hours out my schedule. I have wasted so much time and money using this company! I am convinced no one at legal zoom knows what they are doing. The manager Juana, that called me made me feel like a number and that she only wanted to do her job. Every question I would ask her she would respond with" I can't provide you that information, I am not an attorney!" WHAT!? All I am asking about is the next steps in the process since my EIN was not left on hold like it was supposed to be. This has been a nightmare! I would never recommend Legal zoom to anyone and they name shouldn't be legal zoom. Should be "not sure what to do zoom" cause this is awful. Worst experience ever!

My purchase of their service for my small business was fine. Then they started charging my AMEX card $29.99 a month for a service I did not request. I called customer service and was told you don't have to agree to the service, the service is automatically given to you and we start charging your credit card unless cancel it.

He said when I was purchasing legal document services it stated somewhere in there that they will be automatically enrolling me in some sort of accounting service and they will automatically be charging my credit card. Anyone who has purchased anything from this company knows that they throw a lot of jargon your way and wording your way when you're making a purchase. It's very difficult to catch every single little thing. That's basically what they are counting on. That is where the trickery comes into play. They are hopeful that you missed the spiel about them charging your credit card automatically for a service you probably don't even want. Basically, they take the decision out of your hands. I paid for services pertaining to my small business and they began charging my credit card money that I do not have to spend. It's disgusting. I will NEVER use them again. They automatically charge you for a service yet they never contact you to discuss said service and they never send you any documentation on this service or how to use the service that they are providing you, because they know if they did, you would immediately contact them and confront them on the fact that you did not ask for that service. Then they wouldn't be able to charge you in disguise. I couldn't be more disgusted. They are literally taking food from my family's table... And forget about recouping any money. Talk about taking advantage! They deserve a zero for being misleading and deceitful in a legal way.

Once they get the money they don't care about you! I ordered my express golden package at August which it said CLEARLY on their website that the package comes with a CD of 40 legal forms. But I never got it. So I called the customer services right after I got my package while waiting for maybe like 40 minutes on the phone I finally talked to an useless customer services representative and he told me they stopped the CD service back to April and now all the legal from are accessible on their website. If so why would they change the information on their website at the first place and make the costumer think the package still include the CD! Anyway, I do have the access to the legal forms at August. However the worst experience is that today I tried to get the legal forms from the website and it shows that I have to pay monthly fee to get them. SO WHY THE HELL NO ONE HAVE TOLD ME AT THE FIRST TIME I CALLED THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE LEGAL FORMS AND WHY AT AUGUST I CAN GET FREE ACCESS TO THE LEGAL FROMS! So I called the costumer services again TODAY while waiting for other 50 minute until a representative talk to me and the only answer i got is sorry you have to pay for the legal forms from this point! NOW I FEEL Legalzoom JUST FRAUD ME. Once they got your money they can change your services without notifying you of any changes!

I am writing to file a complaint against LegalZoom, a company that I relied on for professional business formation services.

On June 20,2023, I purchased LegalZoom's Pro Plan for $249, plus state filing fees. This package included a range of services such as a name check service, business filing service, compliance essentials, an operating agreement, a Federal Tax ID Number (EIN), etc.

However, after my business filing, I received a signed S-4 request from the IRS, putting my EIN issuance on hold. Upon contacting the IRS, I was informed that my LLC's name, which included a ".com" at the end, was not eligible to receive an EIN because the IRS does not allow any special characters or punctuation in the legal filing.

Despite my lack of expertise in business formation, which is why I chose to rely on LegalZoom, I found it alarming that such a crucial detail was not caught by their systems or legal experts.

I called requesting a refiling or amendment to my LLC's name. LegalZoom refused to assist unless I purchased additional products and services. I was informed that they had provided the package, despite the fact that the EIN - critical for tax filing, opening bank accounts, and staff building - could not be issued due to their oversight.

On June 26,2023, I initiated contact with LegalZoom on three separate occasions in an earnest attempt to rectify the situation. The duration of these calls varied; I was disconnected during one call, and the final call extended to approximately 45 minutes. On my third call, a supervisor relayed through an agent that they were short-staffed and thus, unable to take an escalated call. After I mentioned that my call was being recorded, the supervisor changed her previous response and assured me that someone would contact me the same day. However, she explicitly stated that there would be no compensation or remedy for the inconvenience and extra cost caused by their error.

My husband formed our LLC through LegalZoom in Aug 2018. Up until this point, we hadn't used them for anything additional than being listed as our registered agent and the compliance calendar for $299/year. Fast forward to Sept 2022 - we filed an LLC amendment with LegalZoom to change the name and address of the business. They state their standard turnaround time for these types of filings are about 30 days.

The weeks quickly turned into months and finally on 12/23/22, they said they got my paperwork submitted to the state of Florida… and then the waiting continued and after hearing they "hadn't heard anything from the state" and they were "escalating my case" because of the time it was taking about a dozen times, I started getting suspicious. LegalZoom claims to have submitted my filing 5-6 times and blamed the State of Florida for the lack of movement.

In April 2023, I decided to call the State of Florida myself and found out they had received something because the address had been updated back in February but they had no record of the name change request. They said I needed to ask LegalZoom for the Fax ID #s associated with their submissions so the State of Florida could look into it further. When I asked LegalZoom for these ID numbers, they claimed that that was impossible unless I had requested them at the time of submission (which they never communicated with me about in the first place), they were shredded immediately to "protect my identity" - ya know, for the public record I was trying to update?

Anyways, I finally got fed up and just requested they refund me the $200 I'd spent because it had been 8+ months and they hadn't been able to complete what I'd paid for. They proceeded to tell me that was also impossible because it was outside of their 120 day refund policy LOL. This company is a joke and they don't deserve your business.

I have officially fired them and hired Northwest Registered Agent and they processed the same thing in about a week.

Second time placing an order with legalzoom. Attempting to do a simple out of state filing on behalf of my employer. Used legalzoom since I am no expert (even though it is just a simple one page filing I figured I am better off paying a little extra and ensuring it is done quickly and correctly). What a huge mistake. It still isn't completed and the order was placed in July (writing review on 10/21). My managers ask about it daily and I look completely incompetent when I have no explanation.

After about 1 month of waiting LegalZoom reached out for additional information. I provided the info and didn't hear back for another ~3 weeks. Keep in mind this is a simple filing. They called to say an additional fee was required. I wanted to speak with a manager to cancel the order because it took them 7 weeks to get to a point that we should've reached in 7 days.

On 6 separate occasions I have been told I will receive a manager call back within 48 hours. I have spent countless hours on hold and on the phone trying to reach a manager because out of 6 times I haven't received a call. Once or twice is okay. SIX TIME WITH NO CALL BACK! Who do I talk to? Everytime I call the service agent says "Wow I do see you have multiple requests. I am so sorry I will make sure they absolutely call this time." SIX TIME!

I have been trying to cancel the order for two months but I have to speak with a manager to do so otherwise I don't get my $250.00 back. HOW DO YOU SPEAK WITH A MANAGER WHEN A MANAGER WONT CALL YOU?

Never again. I deal with dozens of service companies for work and this is BY FAR the worst one I have ever dealt with. AT&T, DirectTV, Comcast are all a breeze compared to LegalZoom.

Congrats LegalZoom, I am so helpless I have resorted to writing my first online review.

I ordered a simple Last Will and Testament on February 14,2019 and was supposed to have this document no later than February 18th, 2019. It is now April 15th, and I am on hold again with customer service looking for my documents! I have called numerous times with promises of action, but unfortunately, this has created more problems. April 11th my original order was cancelled as information I had entered was not duplicated on their format. A new order was placed on the 11th and I completed the information again on the 12th and submitted. Once again this is stalled as it shows payment is due on this order. I have already paid for a product I never received and was told to disregard the notice. Brings us up to date on April 15th, 2019 and again on hold with customer service trying to find my documents! I used Legal Zoom as a quick way to put together a legal Last Will and Testament after I found out I have terminal stage 4 cancer. I would have been ahead of the game going to attorney from day 1, no hassles, no headaches and have a will in place. So the customer representative just came back after 10 minutes on hold and has no reason why this is held up again and cannot override the system to show the will has been paid for. I just requested a full refund and I will go to my attorney and have this drawn up. WASTE OF TIME, MONEY, AND NUMEROUS HEADACHES! NEVER RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.

I had service for open corp. charge for $490 July 2015, but they take out $29.99 every month.

The plan that you were enrolled into is a legal plan that entitles you to receive unlimited attorney consultations on any new legal matter along with additional benefits. If it's something that you specified you didn't want to participate in or you did not see details of the plan in the questionnaire when you originally placed an order with us, then you should not have been enrolled. Ordered an LLC that was supposed to take 15 days. I input the name in all lower case, not knowing the state corporation commission does things in all caps. The state misinterpreted the first letter of the name. All of the other paperwork came through LZ in 30 days with the name I had typed. The order spent over 3 days in the LZ department that checks all spelling and such, and they didn't catch the error, in double the time it was supposed to take.
I called and let them know on noon Thursday. They said it would be 2-3 days for them to research the issue. Called noon Tuesday, they said I would not get a call back that day or Wednesday, but after then. Called Saturday, and they said I was misinformed, their research takes 6-7 business days.
It is quite obvious what happened since all of the paperwork matches EXCEPT the state. If the state only uses all caps, they should have submitted the application in all caps, not the way I input the order. We are paying them to know theses things and not cause unnecessary issues. And they should be trying to correct issues STAT.
LZ charges about $150 to do a name change on an LLC. I'm expecting them to blame me for typing in all lower case, and stick their hands out wanting more money. Thinking of disputing the credit card charge of the original order.

LZ finally called about the name error. Although they were supposed to be 'researching' the issue for the 7 business days it took for them to contact me, the caller sounded like he was reading the complaint for the first time when he spoke to me. Maybe someone else researched it, and he was the go between, but that's not how it sounded. They offered to get the name fixed with the state at no charge. I told them not to bother, I already had gotten it done with the state in less than 2 hours a week ago. I did that after my second call with LZ when they told me it would be another 2-3 days before they would call me back. It was an extraordinarily easy fix and the state rep was kind, considerate, and even called me to make sure the email with the changes came through.
LZ did offer, and I accepted, a $140 refund. That is the difference between the 15 day service I originally paid for, and the 30 day service I received. Nothing else.
The response from LZ on this site said a manager would be calling me. That never happened.

Legalzoom is a TERRIBLE company whose business practices consist of trying to trick people out of as much money as possible while using aggressive up-selling tactics to try and get even more money out of their customers.

In my case Legalzoom somehow FORGOT to submit my Statement of Information to the Secretary of State for 6 MONTHS resulting in a penalty of HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS sent to me- that's how I found out Legalzoom completely failed to perform the service I PAID THEM FOR. Of course after receiving the penalty invoice from the franchise tax board of California I contacted Legalzoom customer service and was promptly treated with skepticism and denial that they had any fault in the matter. After days spent on the phone with a multitude of Legalzoom customer service people and never being allowed to speak to a supervisor and getting nowhere, I decided one day to check my business page on the Secretary of State's website and magically somehow the Statement of Information had been filed... by Legalzoom... 6 MONTHS LATE and only AFTER I had contacted them alerting them to my problem.

Overall my experience with Legalzoom has been filled with nothing but pain, frustration, and overpaying for services. Even their premium package options when setting up a legal entity with them consists only of "free" phone consultations consisting of relentlessly pushy salespeople trying to up-sell me on their third party services. In other words, what you're essentially buying when you add on premium package options with Legalzoom is the privileged to be aggressively up-sold to by their third party partners. Unbelievable. Even timeshare rental seminars provide you with a free shuttle ride and some snacks. Not Legalzoom though, they just charge you for it.

I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER recommend Legalzoom or it's services to ANYONE EVER. STEER CLEAR. This unscrupulous company wants nothing more than to take your money at a time when you're trying to build a brighter future for yourself and your loved ones. My best advice to you is don't walk- RUN AWAY from anything having to do with LegalZoom.

I should have read all the reviews before placing my last order but I had used the service in the past and was reasonably satisfied.

This recent order involved the placement of an order for a non-profit and appending the order a few days later to add EIN and 501 c 3 application support. Bundling the order initially would have probably saved me some money but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do when I placed the initial order.

Turns out I got a letter in the mail a few days later stating that my initial order was complete but since I did not place an order for the EIN and 501 c 3, I had to secure these items on my own. Confused, I called the company to inquire. The first customer service person who picked up the phone was very polite and told me that the person who took the initial order did not connect the 2 orders and since I had initially checked "no" for help with EIN, the letter was sent. He said he had to transfer me to sales to reorder. I was unhappy but decided to go ahead and replace the other.

I was transferred to someone who started to ask for the same information I had just given to the other fellow so I asked him if was was able to see the comments that the initial person said he was making to the file so they would know what to do upon reorder. He went off on me like a mad man yelling at the top of his lungs. When I told him I was a paying customer and demanded an apology he got even louder so I asked to speak with his supervisor, this triggered even more anger. "I AM THE MOST SENIOR PERSON HERE" he yelled. I asked for his name and he yelled "JOSHUA", "MY NAME IS JOSHUA" and then abruptly he hang up the phone on me.

I got no response to exactly what happened to my order, no opportunity to reorder the EIN and ultimately no resolution for a service I paid over $750 for. I would urge everyone to read the reviews and shop around. You deserve better service and of course, more respect.

I think that was my last order from LegalZoom.
