I strongly advise against purchasing a home warranty from Liberty Home Guard (LHG). LHG failed to provide meaningful support when my furnace broke during the winter. The claim process with Liberty Home Guard was unnecessarily difficult and frustrating. Despite paying them $754.99 ($629.99 for the warranty and $125 for their technician to diagnose the issue), LHG used the fine print in their terms & conditions to justify offering either $1,000 toward one of the lowest-quality HVAC systems as a replacement for my top-of-the-line unit or a mere $200 if I sourced my own provider and unit. They cited a lack of maintenance records-something I, as a recent homeowner, could not obtain from the previous owners -effectively penalizing me for something entirely out of my control. This requirement is not only impractical for new homeowners but appears designed to exploit a contractual loophole to avoid fully paying legitimate claims. While their agreement explicitly allows for reimbursement at their discretion, LHG refused to honor their $2,000 coverage limit, relying on technicalities to minimize payouts. This leaves customers the financial burden for critical home repairs.
New homeowners beware: make sure you read the fine print in their contract & have maintenance records for all covered items, or you risk being denied meaningful support.
After the denial of increasing my reimbursement, I left a negative review, which prompted LHG to call me & offer an "elevated refund" -but only if I signed a settlement and release agreement. This behavior demonstrates their prioritization of silencing dissatisfied customers over providing the service they promise.
LHG promotes itself as a customer-focused company with comprehensive coverage, but my experience has been the exact opposite. Their business practices are misleading and exploitative, prioritizing profit over customer well-being.
If you are considering purchasing a home warranty, be cautious of Liberty Home Guard (LHG), which takes your money but does not uphold its contract. Our experience with LHG has been incredibly frustrating, filled with broken promises, incompetent service providers, and a total disregard for customer satisfaction.
When we recently requested a repair for a malfunctioning appliance, LHG charged the required service fee but never sent a technician to assess the issue. Instead of fulfilling their contractual obligation to repair or replace the appliance, they simply claimed it was not covered—a convenient excuse not supported by our agreement's actual terms.
This isn't the first time we've encountered issues with LHG. When technicians did come out in the past, they often seemed inexperienced, unqualified, or unable to actually fix the problem. We've experienced this multiple times with electricians who either misdiagnosed the issue or simply didn't have the expertise to complete the repairs. This pattern strongly suggests that the company contracts with low-quality service providers rather than professionals who can reliably handle home repairs.
When the LHG determined it would not repair our appliance, it offered a mere 1/10 of the actual replacement cost—an insulting amount that didn't come close to covering the cost of a new appliance or installation. Rather than providing the service we paid for, LHG chose the cheapest option possible, leaving homeowners to cover the expense.
Ultimately, this company appears to operate in bad faith. It fails to send qualified technicians and uses delays, denials, and lowball payouts to avoid honoring its warranty. If you're considering a home warranty, I strongly urge you to read reviews, research complaints, and think twice before trusting a company that prioritizes profit over customer service. We regret placing our trust in this company.
Verdict: Avoid at all costs. A home warranty should provide peace of mind—not additional stress and out-of-pocket expenses for repairs that should have been covered.
So I've had Liberty Home Guard for a little over a year now. What I can say is that my experience with them has been anything but pleasant. First, I pat $55 a month for their "service". During the summer my HVAC system stopped working, to file a claim they charge $85 and if your "covered" appliance or whatever happens to be old by their standards, they'll offer to replace it but you have to pay for the entire thing, they'll cover a small amount of the cost. My HVAC system was replaced with a new one after I paid $1896. Here it is seven months later and my HVAC system has stopped working. These people tried to accuse me of tampering with it, and charged me $85 to send someone to do a diagnostics on it. That was two days ago and I have not heard or seen this technician. It's the middle of winter on top of that. This place is a scam, if you go with them, beware. I'm cutting ties with them.
RUN and HIDE. They dragged my claim for 2 weeks just to tell me they're denying it and offering me $100 when the service call was $85. So I've had no washer for my family of 6 for 2 weeks and they offer me a $15 rebate. They lie about everything, customer service is like talking to the wall. They all say the same scripted thing and get you no where. No supervisors work there to handle issues. VERY FRUSTRATING experience and will never use them again. They pick and choose which claims to cover depending on the costs, they are super shady from New York. Use Fidelity or First American.
I signed up with Liberty Home Guard and paid for about 7 months without ever using their service. Now, my washing machine is broken, and I've made a claim. After paying a $125.00 claim fee, they informed me that they will only cover the cost of parts. The $250.00 labor installation fee is to be paid out of my pocket. I pointed out to them that for the total amount, I could have my machine fixed directly at the repair shop, quickly, and without having to go without a washing machine for 2-3 weeks. They replied that this policy is outlined in their terms, and they do not cover labor installation costs at all, only parts. As a long-time homeowner who has dealt with different home warranty companies before, this is the only company that covers just parts. I asked them how I can leave a review on their website, and they said to please send it via email. DO NOT TRUST REVIEWS ON THEIR WEBSITE.
It is a week and counting since my furnace went out, and a tech came out to assess the situation. Before he left, he said good luck with this claim. I asked him to expound on his statement. He said if this was American Home Shield, American First, or Fidelity he would leave my house and go to the local parts dealer, replace the fan, and bill the warranty company. He said LHG makes the contractors jump through a bunch of hoops, and the service never gets done. He said they are hoping to outlast your frustrations. Today is Wednesday and I left work early last Wednesday to meet the service tech for the initial eval. My family has literally been sitting in a sub-freezing house for a week, and I have called LHG daily for a status update. Same story every time. You have been warned, this company is truly fraudulent!
This home insurance has gone down the hill. Today the charged my credit card for a policy that was inactive. A month ago I placed my first claim about a refrigerator. The technician was dispatched promptly and assessed that the refrigerator needed to be replaced. I purchased this policy because LHG states in the contract that either repair or replace covered appliances. Well this is NOT TRUE. They offered a minimal, insignificant contribution towards replacement that will not cover even half of the cost.
It is my opinion that this business engages in FRAUDULENT activity. Once you place your credit card on their website they will charge it, offering NO explanation. I was charged today 130$ I do not know why, and the charge does not even appear in their website. It is hidden.
ABSOLUTELY STAY AWAY from this insurance company.
I canceled my account 7 months ago after I realized they were a scam. When sold the policy they claimed that if my appliance could not be repaired then it would be replaced with either the exact model I have or a comparable model regardless of my current appliance's age. THIS WAS A LIE. DO NOT fall for these sales tactics. Buried deep into their Terms and Conditions they have ways to get out of covering your items. READ section H 10 Limits of Liability where it states your item will only be covered on the "book value" aka if it is old you will get next to nothing. NOT what they claimed when they sold me the plan.
In addition to this I filed a claim with the better business bureau, this site, and canceled my account. I filled out their cancelation form and also spoke to Freddy Smith a Senior Manager about why I was displeased and wanted to cancel. For 5 months after taking all of these steps my account was not charged... hence in my mind canceled. Then on July 1 (5 months later) I was randomly charged by this company several hundred dollars. 5 months after I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau. When I called they claimed "they were not sure if I really wanted to cancel". I am pretty sure someone that files complaints, fills out their cancelation form, talks to Senior Management about why I want to cancel, and writes dissatisfaction reviews "really want to cancel". Do not buy a policy from this dishonest company. If you do have one and cancel make sure you remove any forms of payment on file because they will STEAL your money.
CAUTION: This company does not want you to read H10 Limits OF LIABILITY of their terms and conditions. They mislead and lie to people stating they "cover" all appliances up to $2000 and it is a lie. What they will not tell you when signing up for a policy is that they only credit you the current book value of your item so if your item is several years old and it is worth next to nothing then that is exactly what you will get from them towards a new appliance... nothing. I paid $80 for a claim fee that included a contractor coming out to see what was wrong with my dishwasher... he never came out at all and just concluded what was wrong with it from texting me lol. He also said parts were no longer available and I looked up parts myself and found a dozen distributors that sold parts to my model. Another lie. In the end I bought the part and fixed it myself for $40. They were going to charge me in addition to the $80... $240 more dollars for a replacement dishwasher... oh... and if you need them to install it... guess what, another $299 for that. They mislead you and then "cover" nothing. DO NOT GET A POLICY FROM THESE CROOKS.
Liberty Home Guard is a scam. First you pay monthly, or in my case, in full. Then they charge $75 for every item on your claim. Next a tech goes to diagnose the issue. Once issue is addressed, tech informs LHG. Liberty gets necessary part but holds it hostage until you pay LHG for the cost of labor to fix your appliance. LHG states they'll cover the cost of the replacement part but they will NOT cover the cost of labor which in my case was over $300. Now if the tech misdiagnosed the issue, and it turns out it's something different. The client once again has to pay LHG for another cost of labor for the tech to go back out to your house. AVOID LIBERTY HOME GUARD!
I start by saying I would much have preferred the full replacement of my unit, however, I encountered Elizabeth who was very pleasant, helpful and went above and beyond to provide as much support with my leaking water heater. She has a calmness about her that's well appreciated in these stressful times!
I filed a claim for my hot water heater on October 7th. This company takes between 1-3 business days to make EVERY single decision. EACH STEP. I was assigned a technician the 9th. I was unable to reach the assigned tech. I was assigned a new tech, but he was a plumber and said I needed an electrician. I was charged a second fee of $80 to start a whole new claim (even though I clearly stated that I didn't have ANY idea what the issue was). The new tech was scheduled to show but never came. A guy showed up to diagnosis the problems and I'm STILL waiting for any resolution. I have paid $160 and waited 3 weeks. It is now October 26th. This company is horrible. Use UHP instead. Wish I had...
I had a scammer from this company constantly call me. When he finally got me on the phone (while driving mind you), he continually battled me after refusing offers down to the lowest possible payment to get hold of my debit card number. He included more than one home on the plan and by the end of that business day I had five separate charges on my debit card from this company that were unauthorized. I was overdrawn in my account by $700 that day because of their theft, and was given the runaround and told they could not immediately reverse the charges for the theft! With my bank on the phone recording them, they stated they had "returned the money" already that day. The next day they still had not cancelled the pending debit it was still taken out of my account. The bank said have they been telling the truth did they prior that would never have happened. Once I reached the breaking point in advocacy I was screamed at on the phone by a so called upper management person. Zero integrity, zero accountability, zero empathy. Run from this company and look into their criminal background.
At first, I was skeptical of buying a home warranty policy. But after asking the nice rep a bunch of questions I found them to be transparent and honest. Sandy, the rep I spoke with was also amazing and super knowledgeable. Working with liberty has given me peace of mind and the confidence that should something go wrong in my home I am confident they will support me.

Liberty customer representatives are professional and proactive. Before buying a coverage plan, a liberty rep spent 40 minutes with me answering all my questions and educating me about home warranties. Their patience is amazing.
They don't fix or replace anything. They tell you they're gonna mail you a check then the person that you spoke with magically does not work there anymore. This company is a fraud
Beware! They will promise you the world and then disappear, not reply to emails, or provide you a repair person or technician who is no longer contracted with them. I've used 4 different home warranty companies in the last 10 years and Liberty is the absolute worst. If there was a rating of zero stars, they would get it. So far, I've tried to file a claim on an air conditioner, a rekey, and a dryer. They have failed to provide solutions on any of these issues. Total waste of money. Feel free to reach out to me directly for specific details if you are considering this company.
I reviewed all my appliances with model numbers. I was told they would repair or replace with comparable models. They not only replace with the bottom of the line model but do not pay for installation. OUTLINED SOMEWHERE IN SMALL PRINT! Customer service was horrible and they even hung up on me.
Liberty provided HVAC tech for heat issue. Full HVAC system was suggested. Full replacement was paid for, and months later Liberty provided tech arrives to perform installation. Fast forward 14 hours and tech leaves after partial installation with system not insulated properly, baffles not operational, and equipment and ducting not properly insulated leading to major moisture issues.
Contacted liberty to get installation finalized. Liberty had already paid the tech for work that was never marked complete.
Liberty entered "dispute" with vendor a month ago. Was told it would take 24-48 hours to get response. It's now a month later and they're saying 90 days is how long the dispute process takes now.
Liberty wants me to pay an additional $1700 to finalize work that I'd already paid for that wasn't completed. They keep saying they will refund me the $1700 "if we win the dispute".
No... Liberty made the mistake and refuses to finalize work I've paid them for.
To add insult to injury the tech they sent out wasn't licensed in my state to perform HVAC installation and had NEVER been licensed to do so. Liberty now refuses to provide tech's license and insurance information, even though they sent them out.
So now I have moisture issues and partial installaiton on a system that was initially installed with the emergency heat strips as the only method of heat.
Liberty Home Guard has figured out a loophole on every appliance to avoid paying for the repair.
From a leaking water heater to a oven thermostat, they know the most common repairs for each appliance, so they can avoid paying for the repair or replacement.
They are not worth paying for. Go buy a lottery ticket to pay for your repairs. You have a better chance of getting paid.
Answer: I'm not sure, I am starting to fear I've been scammed off of the horrible customer service. I am not sure how they have such high reviews
Answer: Definitely call if you want to deal with a scam company.
Answer: Hello Michael! Yes, we do cover mini-split air conditioning systems.
Answer: Positive reviews. The problem is that they bribe unhappy customer with an (escalated) refund to sign an NDA. This falsely keeps reviews high when they should be much lower.
Liberty Home Guard has a rating of 1.9 stars from 60 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Liberty Home Guard most frequently mention customer service and hvac system. Liberty Home Guard ranks 9th among Home Insurance sites.
