“Gone but not forgotten: Lord and Taylor's”

This was the loveliest department store when I was growing up. We shopped at their Fifth Avenue flagship store and at another suburban site. In its halcyon days it catered to the carriage trade... it was totally top drawer. It was always a treat to have lunch or a little treat at their tea room known as The Bird Cage. Over the years, due to poor corporate management, it deteriorated; became known as "Lord and Taylor" and essentially sunk into oblivion. I ordered a few lovely cashmere sweaters in recent years... then I just learned that it was bought out for a meager 400 M. By some kind of rental business... horrible news. Good-bye, Lord and Taylor's... you were wonderful and a classic in more genteel and gracious times. Five stars for your glorious past... you were the gold standard of department stores. ~ M. S.

They sent me a return label to give them a good review, after I did they received my return and never sent me my money back. All the communications went through NY and Co. Now, no one answers the emails, the phone number doesn't work, tooooo bad this used to be my favorite store. I think we should all send them to collections...

Beware when you order from them because they don't allow returns on all items. Final Sale means not.

I bought a cosmetic set in the Lord and Taylor store on July 3,2020 at PRUDENTIAL CENTER, 760 Boylston St, Boston, MA *******. My check says that I have 30 days after purchase to exchange or return. I happened to decide to return the item I bought for a certain reason. I came to the store to return the set on Monday, August 4, the last day when I could do that. Unfortunately, the store was closed on that day. I came back on Tuesday and it was closed again. So, next time when I was able to come to the store was Thursday as I can't go there everyday as if it was my job.
And do you know what a store assistant told me? Before she gave me a response, she consulted someone on the radio, allegedly a store manager, and said that my last day to return was Monday, that is August 4. Then, I asked her if the store was opened? She said no, but there is no way to help me. Then, that guy, the store manager, whose name is Khoney, gave me another store manager's phone number (who seemed to have a higher level of responsibility) to deal with the situation. I called that phone number many times and nobody answered. I am really sorry to know that the store is going bankrupt, but it doesn't mean you can treat your customer like that. If there is a manager in the store, he/she has to deal with all situations happening there, especially when the customer is standing in front of you, but not to give a phone number showing disrespect and indifference. What I felt that time: he was rude and wasn't too much trying to get into detail.
I am not spending my money on the Lord and Taylor store any more.
I respect my time and myself and don't want to hear communication in an unprofessional manner.

Just a word of warning to other consumers... I have been engaged in a battle with L&T (and their parent company Le Tote) since May 2020 it is now July 2020. I returned merchandise purchased with a L&T credit card well within the 30 day return time frame. I did not receive a credit to my account. Instead I cane hone to find a FedEx envelope with a L&T merchandise card.

When I called the 800 number for customer service, I encountered ridiculous hold tones upwards of an hour. I tried contacting my L&T card only to be told that they are Capital One not L&T and they understand the situation and have received numerous complaints but can't help me. They said I must deal with L&T customer service directly.

I finally stayed in hold for an eternity to reach L&T customer service. They are now based in the Philippines. I was told that they were having computer problems and were unable to credit my account at the time which is why I received the merchandise credit. Additionally if you do not specifically request a refund then they generally provide a merchandise credit. This is in direct conflict with their published return policy on their website. The representative gave me a case number and said I would receive an email and my account would be credited at which time I could destroy the merchandise credit card. The expected time frame was about two weeks.

I did not receive an email nor was my account credited. I called again and was told the delay was now 1 month and I had two more weeks to go. I was given a specific date that I would receive the credit. That did not occur.

I contacted Le Tote customer service. I had a very difficult time reaching someone who would actually listen to my problem. She assured me she would "escalate" the issue and email me. She emailed me several days later stating that they have a backlog and they will process my refund when they get to it. Their customer service is also located in the Philippines.

It's been 2 months, they have my money (over $200) and the merchandise that I returned yet I'm paying interest on a balance I do not owe. It's ridiculous and I shouldn't have to wait longer.

I have opened a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and am about to contact the Office of the Attorney General as well as Division of Consumer Affairs.

I am being ripped off. I never expected this from Lord & Taylor. I am certain it is attributable to their new owner Le Tote.

It is not the store we all loved to shop at. It is not the place with excellent customer service where you were treated like royalty. It is worse than Walmart, at least there they honor their return policy. Do not be sucked in by their "DEALS", do not patronize this store!
