Lyft has a rating of 1.2 stars from 901 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Lyft most frequently mention customer service, credit card, and phone number problems. Lyft ranks 38th among Car Sharing sites.
So if you're 2 minutes late coming out they can charge you for it. If they are 2+ minutes late picking you up the price sure does not go down. As you're standing in the cold watching them turn around several times etc.
I booked Lyft to pick up a friend first, then me, and finally take us to downtown L.A. At the scheduled arrival time, I received a call from the driver, who informed me he was at my friend's address. However, he gave me a different address that was about 2 miles away. He claimed we were no-shows and said he was leaving. Shortly after, I received a text saying I would be charged $10 for the no-show. The issue is that the app had confirmed the correct pickup and drop-off locations in the proper order, which I documented with a screenshot. It seems the driver may have used this situation to avoid the trip and still collect a $10 fee for a bogus cancellation. Contacting customer service was nearly impossible, and navigating the app to file a complaint was frustrating and time-consuming. After about 15 minutes, I was finally informed that I would be reimbursed the $10. At the very least Lyft should verify ride cancellations with customers before applying charges. Due to the delay, we missed our seats at the concert and had to stand for the entire event. The experience was extremely disappointing.
If I could give 0 stars
If I could give 0 stars, I would. The 4 a.m. trip to the airport, which I booked the previous day, was canceled without warning less than 20 minutes prior to pick up. Unable to see the trip on the app anymore, it seemingly disappeared with no sign of existence, even though I received clear confirmation an hour prior to agreed upon pick up time. This created a crisis for me and my ability to get a ride to make my flight was compromised. The app continued to request and book random trips (some were not even to the airport) without my knowledge or consent. Not only were these trips (mutiple/redundant) booked automatically without my own confirmation, they were pending at triple the cost of the trip that was booked the previous day. I was never charged a fee for the original booking, so i suspect the cancelation was on the driver's end. It was an extremely traumatic experience that I will NEVER repeat as i will not be using this rideshare service again. I was charged a cancelation fee for the unauthorized trips that were "booked" only moments prior to my original trip's pick up time. They were also booked for the WRONG day & time. I nearly missed my flight and this level of disappointment and disgust for a company exceeds all others to date. I will warn my friends/family about the unreliable and manipulative reality that is this app/company. I'm furious, and as I attempt to delete my account, I'm informed that it will be a lengthy process. I must wait for an email but only after downloading all the data. Only then may i "request" a full deletion. I may contact the bbb, though this such a major company, it likely will be futile.
Today, I dropped my car off at my mechanic's and ordered a Lyft to bring me home. Initially, the driver was a little brusque. Usually, an Uber or Lyft driver introduces themselves and asks if I am comfortable would I like to listen to music. Michael did none of that. I did ask him to roll up the windows which he did halfway and I was uncomfortable.
When he was driving on the highway (465 where the speed limit is 55), Michael hit 73. Now I am being blown around and feel unsafe that he is driving well over the speed limit and changing lanes to pass.
As we were closer to my destination (my home), Google Maps took him in the wrong direction. I told him so. He asked me to repeat myself since the wind made it hard to hear. I did. He said he was following Google Maps and I reiterated that it was the wrong way. By now I was a little impatient.
Michael began to yell at me. "Don't disrespect me, this is my truck and you don't disrespect me in my truck!" He pulled into the Staybridge Hotel parking lot and sat. I pointed out the address on their sign was in the 106th block and my address is in the 103rd block. He continued to yell at me and finally, told me to direct him.
I should have left the ride when he stopped in the parking lot. I didn't. He kept asking me left or right and I pointed out that we were going around round-a-bouts. I was telling him 2nd exit heading south (he said he didn't do north and south).
Michael became verbally abusive. He asked if I was married and said that my husband must hate me. He called me a f***** b***** several times and finally swerved the truck to the side of the road and ordered out of the truck while he shouted, "F***** C****".
While this story should be over, it isn't. Michael passed me and turned north on the next street. He waited there (it's a dead end). He then drove to the corner and watched me walk up my driveway and into my house.
I called Lyft and the police. Threatening a woman isn't a big crime, unfortunately.
$57 to go through the drive through of nearby CVS. Very nice driver whom helped with my rollator. Comfortable ride. CRAZY BIZARRE PRICES.
Tip for consumers:
Upfront price
Live in Philly and LYFt took more than 40 minutes TWICE with no estimate. If you don't live in a top 4 city mind as well not even try LYFT.
The most disgusting - never take a Lyft or Uber in JC- never again use this trash - do not use this at all
I was scammed by a diver for a trip that should have cost $14 but the driver did some trickery with the trip that that caused the fare to be $30 (more than doubling his take).
I realized the scam when I saw the receipt and map of my trip that showed pickup dots at different places. I made no stops, Yet it showed one of the pickup dots (and approx address) as being at the top of an overpass with nothing fro 140 ya5rds on each sid, a nd no businesses for at least 200 yards. Now why would I request a stop on the apex of an overpass? The fare was "recalculated" based on that fictitious "stop" and cost more than double now/ According to the receipt and time stamps,, the stop lasted 25 seconds LESS than the average time I've made the exact same trip 60 times previously (for about $14).
Hmmmm;.
I pleaded the discrepancy with their "support department" through the BBB, the app itself, their Facebook page,. Through email,. And their Twitter pages explaining how I think I was scammed and each time they insisted the fare was correct. They never looked at the evidence.
I took them to "arbitration" per our "User Agreement". I paid my $150 to initiate the claim and sat around for 2 months twiddling my thumbs while it turns out, they never paid their share of the arbitration admin fees ($150) to join the arbitration proceeding (per their dictated agreement) and thereby closing the case with ADR.com. I didn't see THAT one coming. I'm new at this.
So I took them to local civil court, asking for $2,000 (I put down some far-fetched stuff that doesn't usually fly in small claims courts). I finally got a call from a paralegal there who offered me "$50 to go away". I countered with $477 NOW. That call last 1 minute and 13 seconds. Nope!
They never responded to the civil complaint either and after a brief meeting with the Judge, I got a an $1,100 award. Which netted me about $840 after the original $16 claim, court costs, admin fees, etc... Lyft could have resolved this 5 times for $16 in the first 2 weeks. But they'd rather pay $1,100 after 6 months <shrug>.
It was the hardest, most educational, and most emotionally rewarding $840 I've ever earned.

Lyft "Wait & Save" Trip Fare from grocery store to home,
Lyft is not nice and all. All of this customer service crap they yell and "stand by" is clearly not true. Ive been using lyft for a while and it has been ok. The account that I use for my miscellaneous work activity was compromised and was OVERDRAWN due to a 'reoccurring fee'. I DID NOT TAKE THESE RIDES AND I ENDED UP PAYING FOR THEM. OVERDRAFT DRAFT FEES AND ALL. I have emailed and emailed and have tried to resolve this issue with Lyft and they, NOT ONCE, have contacted me back regarding this issue. On top of that... my lyft account is frozen/closed and i cant even use it. Hmmmm... i wonder why? Seeing that no one has contacted me back... how is it possible? That tells me that someone saw the MULTIPLE EMAILS and took THEIR action without contacting me. They will contact you regarding AAANNNNY other issue... jusy not this one. I at one point even signed up to drive for lyft b/c i thought the company was top notch... NOPE. Lyft. You guys suck. I hope youre reoccurring charge is worth doing people dirty and not trying to help the situation.
First of all, I caught lyft taking money from my account illegally, and making up million false reasons why there was deduction from the amount I worked. I called several times, and send out multiple emails to lyft, and they mentioned that I am being garnished, when there is absolutely no reason to be garnished. Initially Lyft lied and said it was IRS that was garnishing, then I called IRS and requested documentation that they are not garnishing me. Then I called and emailed again with that information, then they emailed me and changed the story and said it was because I didn't upload my W9 for last year, and I proved to them that I haven't done any lyft trips since 2015(as they can see on their dashboard). Then again they said it was child support, and I am 1M% sure that I didn't have a kid out there, and if I did, the courts would have reached out to me by now. Yet still, I called child support and they gave confirmation that they are not garnishing me, and had no record on me. I still kept getting conflicting information and lies about everything from lyft. After all this back and forth, they finally realized that they have been caught lying and stealing money from me, then they texted me to let me know that I will no longer get deduction from account and it was some type of error, but at the same time they are refusing to refund the money they had already stolen from my account claiming is a garnishment from other agencies. I have been recording all the phone conversations and all the communications I have been having with lyft, and I will make sure to release this information out there so everyone can really know what lyft is doing to their drivers. Especially to poor drivers that doesn't have the education and knowledge to try to understand why you taking money from them.
I am very distressed and very upset. I took a LYFT ride today at 2:42pm and unfortunately left my phone in the back seat of Imran's car. I noticed immediately and went into track mode to contact Inran the driver. As I am tracking my IPhone, I could see that it was traveling inside the car, so I call customer service and they say that they will email the driver and I have to wait for driver to check his email? This was at 3:07pm, it is now 12:35AM and still no answer from LYFT or Imran, I keep calling them to get updates and nothing yet, I also asked to speak to a Manager and they said the Manager will call me back and hasn't done so either. This is unacceptable and POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I know LYFT is cheaper than UBER and that's why I went with your company, but as of today and the inconvenience and anxiety that I am going through I will be reconsidering LYFT. This is a work phone and it may cost me my job. Waiting for the driver to check his email rather than callimg or texting the driver is POOR, POOR customer service and I may never get my device if Inram doesn't check his email.
Never got the 50.00 credit and I just got charged 25.00 for a 5.00 ride
On 08/25/22 I was riding Lyft I Baytown Texas it was about 3.3 miles from my location to the hotel and I had $50 dollars gift card and I put that on my Lyft account then I was trying to request Lyft ride it showed me the price was $48.99 I was shocked I put only $50 and I just imagined that there some kinds of fraud or or there are people waiting to wipe out your money or might be the bank works with hackers or the driver might compromised to charge me other way so when I saw the price that much for 3.3 mile is unusual so before I confirm request I push back button and logged off my account and log in again and requested ride it was $11.99 then I confirmed to to get ride and on their app the driver was 5 minutes away but I have no idea what was she is doing on the same place on her location she was rounding where she was the same place still it was 5 minutes but the driver was moving on the same distance. After waiting 20 minute driver arrived and picked me up so after I got hotel I feel to check my account 13.79 is gone with out my interest okay I new that from the beginning something is wrong I called the phone# from the back of the card usually they about 6 or 7 option to choose even to talk to customer service but all of them has locked there was only three option 1/ you check your balance 2/ to hear frequently asked questions 3/ if your card lost that's all. So what I did is just choose #1 to see my balance I was shocked about my balance it was only $16.16 that's all I got.
Ok here is the list 3.3 miles ride fare $11.99 +$5 tip
$19.54 unknown charge $13.79 unknown charge look when you add all these $50.32 that was very funny it is over than my gift card so I just searched another phone# to contact I got people to talk 3 people they transfer me to Simone else however few seconds later the phone hanged up and I called again one guy told me he doesn't know about it and he said I have to call meta bank I called there no one pick up just computer it says I have to call by the phone number at the back of cad that was very funny no help no solution so I get back to my account to check again the first time when I checked it was $16.16 when I check the 2nd time it was $19.22 I was laughed I think when they check how much they took they saw it that was over the gift card amount then they turned $3.06 to my balance then now my balance is $19.22. People imagine how money citizens are victims and deferred where there is no solution so who is going to stop this fraud in this country? I think ther and other parties and the bank has compromised to robbed our money the amazing thing when I check Lyft account there only $16.99 which is I paid for ride fare so who took my money $30.27? I need justice really
I received an unexpected e-mail from Lyft regarding with behavior that I did not behave in a negative matter towards drivers. Yes, I could understand that at this very moment, your company has already implemented policies, and I do not have a Lyft account, that Lyft account associates with my health insurer, because of my disability. The only way that I have directed to the driver nicely is that I wanted to show him how to get to the shortcuts to highways to my appointments, and he told me that he needs to go about the GPS whatever has been given to the Lyft company. Then, I said to him, that's okay if he's taking to the route. No offense, but, I don't see why anyone would ratted on me by complaining to the dispatcher about me, in regards to blatant disrespect. I would NEVER disrespect no drivers under any circumstances. Never... And, I've never have been warned by your e-mails regarding with the negative feedback from drivers in which that I did NOT cause a problem. I felt like that I've been accused of that kind of blatant disrespect, in which that I didn't do anything about that, nor threatening, assauting nor mugging drivers. All I did is asking the driver nicely to do some alternatives as shortcuts (i.e.: from Astor Avenue to Gunther Avenue with Stillwell Avenue and continuing on to Hutchinson River Parkway North or heading down to I-95 north direct. No arguments, nor offenses... I respect every single drivers as always. As, I said, the Lyft account is not miine, and it was referred to my insurance of Elderplan, Homefirst logistic ride department. They're the ones who had their bill under your establishment. Please, take it up to them... Not me...
Thank you for your understanding.
I had a phone that was left in the back of the car and as soon as I walked in the door of my home realized that while I could look out the window and still see the driver tearing down the street I tried to comedian Ali call him it was not answered message Tim messages went unanswered so I emails Lyft and customer service did email me back and ensure that they would look into the problem and I realized my phone was gone within one or two minutes if the driver had simply answered his phone or return my message I would have got my phone back he stole my phone because he told them finally two days later after they claim to have made first contact with him which was ridiculous that it took that long and he said that he claimed he couldn't find my stump phone so he he either stole it or the next passes the guy there but they didn't do any type of diligence investigation into it was never given any kind of satisfaction for that you cannot get in touch with a person for any kind of customer service issues so their customer service is basically non-existent then tonight I was requesting a ride from of reluctantly and after 37 minutes of waiting and being told that the driver was 6 7 minutes away 6 minutes 7 Minutes 6 minutes 7 minutes and the driver when trying to be contacted would not answer text nor phone calls and then I canceled the ride through the app and was still charged $5 with PayPal I left some very very nice messages for those people and they did refund my PayPal account $5 but I still do not trust him will never use them again they can suck my $#*! they're terrible they're they're thieves and they're f****** pieces of garbage I'm sorry that I sugar-coated it so much I'll try not to do that again
Lyft is a terrible company to drive for! I drove part time for Lyft for 3 1/2 years. 3574 rides, always 5 stars, 96% pickup percentage. I was discharged by the company because they accused me of asking riders "something that made them feel uncomfortable", 5 and 6 months ago. They said that this happened two times and gave me the dates. I asked them what I said. They never responded to anything that I wrote to the "person" deactivating me. No one from Lyft will ever talk to you about the accusation. I did ask just prior to my "deactivation" if any of the larger amounts that riders were being charged due to inclement weather would be passed along to the drivers. They tend not to like those kinds of questions. Driving Lyft kind of worked for me because I could do random hours, even though the pay is awful. Most nights brought in less than minimum wage, after gas and tolls, but it was a little better than nothing. The most that I ever made in a given day was $185.00 for 14 Hrs., even though the app is supposed to shut you down after 12 hours. Rides were steady. That breaks down to $13.21 per hour. The people that tell you how great they are doing are either lying, or just not good at simple business math. Additionally, the GPS included in the Lyft app is DANGEROUS. It led me into multiple one-way streets in the wrong direction, and onto RT 22 in NJ going the wrong way. This highway is divided at the point where this occurred by several hundred feet with buildings between the lanes, so where this happened, there was no way to know that I would be going the wrong direction. Another problem with Lyft is that they are extremely cautious about making sure that the drivers are who we say that we are, while about 25% of the riders that I picked up were not the person that the app told me that I was picking up. So, if you don't mind being paid less than a panhandler while picking up people who are often drunk, on their way to a hotel for sex, stink of weed and often on drug buys, this may be the job for you. At some point the state legislatures will need to step in to deal with some of Lyft's practices and areas that need attention, which will be very costly to the company, but they are making plenty at the expense of their underpaid drivers.
Driver hung up on me and left me stranded terrible service I waited 40 mins and was late to work
I tried to use Lyft last weekend in San Diego. The first idiot driver went to a gas station instead of the main Old Town San Diego Transit Center (for Amtrak, the bus and Metro Trains all in 1). Not only did the first driver yell at me that I must have done something wrong, but that I was supposed to find this Mobil station and meet him there. When I told him that he'd have to come and get me, he said he didn't know what the Transit Center was or where Old Town San Diego was - which is kind of like a NYC taxi driver not knowing what Madison Square Garden was or where Times Square was! The second driver "missed the exit" off the freeway, circled around, then "missed the turn" - again and again and again. After watching this idiots time to pickup drop down from 4 minutes to 1, then go up to 7, back to 2, then up to 5, then back to 1 that up to 11, I just canceled his ride also and took a taxi. I took Uber from the Catamaran Hotel in Mission Bay down to the main Amtrak station in Downtown San Diego for $17. The driver was right on time, pleasant and got me to the train station nice and easy.
I've been trying to delete my account with Lyft for over a week now and, for good reason, they do not have a working phone number - their listed number is actually a taco restaurant in San Francisco. I've tried their contact page and gotten nothing but the run around. I was lied to by one of the customer service reps telling me, in writing, that they have no way to delete my cc info from their 3rd party payment processor Stripe, which is untrue. I've been in contact with Stripe who told me that the only way to delete my account and cc info from them is to have Lyft do it and it would take Lyft under 30 seconds to do it. DON'T EVERY USE LYFT OR GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION! USE UBER, THEY ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!
Never never never get a ride with Lyft! Horrible customer service and drivers! I was in vacation and got a ride with Lyft, and left my phone inside the driver's car, all my credit cards and IDs were inside my phone's cover, I contacted customer service, asked them for help, I explained it to them that I need to go to the airport and my driver license is the only form of ID I have, I told them that I am in the vacation and I need my credit cards because I don't have any cash with me, they did not care, kept saying we are not responsible, they did not even provide me a customer service phone number, I asked many times please give me a customer service phone number, they said we don't have any, and the one that I googled is not a working number, the driver confirms that he had my phone and all my IDs, and he kept playing game with me called my friend's number after 100 times we called and messaged him, I told him please bring my phone and IDs and I will give you a very good tip and reward, he said I don't bring it today, I will bring it tomorrow 4 to 5, he made me stay in my hotel all day, and I was not able to go anywhere, and at 4:30 I called him and said what happened, again he said no I can't bring it and I will bring it tomorrow 6 to 7, I was so worry and anxious since he has already broken his promise, and I did not know how to go to the airport without my ID, he made me to call my husband spend 170 dollar to mail my Passport with DHL, and finally after 3 days that I reported him to the police, he gave my phone back! Lyft did not support me at all and kept said they are independent contractor and we are not responsible! How about if the driver rapes someone, you still saying not responsible! He had my sensitive information kept them for 3 days, ruined my vacation!
The driver went off the side of the express way almost hit the guard rail. CS is horrible no help!
To all of the complaints from people who applied to Drive for Lyft & Uber, You are LUCKY you didn't get hired! Lyft is so not worth it! Yes, you can get a car through their leasing program but you will not make any money! Take it from a year and a half driver of these companies! I am actually going through a nightmare right now with Lyft's leased car! My personal car a week prior to New Years Eve lost its brakes. This forced me to lease a Lyft vehicle until my car was repaired. Three days before New Years Eve, my personal was fixed. I contacted Lyft to give them back their car. They wouldn't respond to my email. I wanted to give them back their car and have them take the Express Driver Rental platform off and put the regular driver platform back on where I am making my bonuses and express pay again. When a driver is leasing a Lyft car, Lyft puts a hold on your pay. You will not get any bonuses, you can not Express pay yourself where you would get your money with in a few minutes. Lyft will charge you 200 dollars. Plus the tax fees. Plus the Lyft fees, and require you to drive a minimum of 75 pickups which they control. It's a scam and it is not worth it! Lyft refused to take the car back before New Years Eve leaving me without being able to earn money. I ended up jumping on the Uber app and didn't make hardly anything! Lyft New that if I was stuck with the car that I would have to pay for it. I haven't signed on with them for a week. I haven't touched their car in over a week. And they tell me it doesn't matter because I still have the car even though it was them that refused to take the car back. It's a money making scam leaving you in debt with a company that is suppose to provide a pay check! I gave a year in a half of my life to them. Ran two brand new cars into the hole. One car is only 9 months old and looks like it's 3 years old! I started out with 1 mile on the car and as of today it has 30,000 miles on the odometer! I am a 5.0 star rated driver with over 5234 passengers serviced for Lyft. All I have to show for my hard work and dedication to this company is two cars run into the ground, more debt and unable to pay those debts then when I first started with them. Customers who have no respect or regard for the drivers property and feel they are deserving of only paying $5 fees but want a $80,000 car and a silver spoon to eat a pint of gold! Lyft is in trouble! They have been trying to sell their company to Apple, Uber, Google, and others who have turned them down and away! Save your money, spare your car, and work for a company that won't put you in debt but rather give you the ability to live and pay your bills!
Not even 1 DAY of driving. Account was stuck and customer service was a total JOKE! DELETED ACCOUNT AND APP IMMEDIATELY.

Lyft has no customer service. They are terrible to their customers and drivers.
The title pretty much speaks for itself. Lyft was negative help, of course.
