Lyft has a rating of 1.2 stars from 901 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Lyft most frequently mention customer service, credit card, and phone number problems. Lyft ranks 38th among Car Sharing sites.
So if you're 2 minutes late coming out they can charge you for it. If they are 2+ minutes late picking you up the price sure does not go down. As you're standing in the cold watching them turn around several times etc.
I booked Lyft to pick up a friend first, then me, and finally take us to downtown L.A. At the scheduled arrival time, I received a call from the driver, who informed me he was at my friend's address. However, he gave me a different address that was about 2 miles away. He claimed we were no-shows and said he was leaving. Shortly after, I received a text saying I would be charged $10 for the no-show. The issue is that the app had confirmed the correct pickup and drop-off locations in the proper order, which I documented with a screenshot. It seems the driver may have used this situation to avoid the trip and still collect a $10 fee for a bogus cancellation. Contacting customer service was nearly impossible, and navigating the app to file a complaint was frustrating and time-consuming. After about 15 minutes, I was finally informed that I would be reimbursed the $10. At the very least Lyft should verify ride cancellations with customers before applying charges. Due to the delay, we missed our seats at the concert and had to stand for the entire event. The experience was extremely disappointing.
Took Lyft to the airport with my family. Ride was uneventful and even gave a 20% tip. So what does the driver do? When I looked at my credit card bill 2 weeks later, charged an extra $80 for a damage fee that never occurred. The driver is committing outright fraud and theft. Tried to file a complaint by app and online. Had to try several times to get it registered. Lyft has no live customer support to discuss or help. Proactively contacted my credit card company to put both the damage fee and tip on hold. Lyft does not hold their drivers accountable and certainly don't screen their drivers to any acceptable standards. STAY AWAY!
As a driver that is at a gold status with 5 star rating, you would think that I could get help when needed. Their customer support chat is awful. They don't even read your message, just send a canned response and close the issue. There is no number to call and speak with someone. I would really look into other options and opportunities before deciding to drive for Lyft. I am currently looking for other opportunities myself. Hope this is helpful.
They had the offer to become a driver and get $1000 after your first ride by March 5th. But, then they're saying the DMV background check takes too long and they would give me an update on March 6th which passes the deadline. They should make up their mind before offering something!
I set my rides up now hours in advance and they still don't get me on time or at all... I've been late to work on numerous occasions because of this... And they double charge me for no apparent reason when they feel like it as well...
Tip for consumers:
DON'T DO IT
I signed up for a ride for my first time ever being in a internet taxi service they quoted me a ride for $20 6.2 mi from my house they charged me $38 that is not cool not fair and there's nothing I can do about it and there are customer service is worthless you can't call anybody or talk to anybody in their internet help is garbage don't use lyft use somebody else I repeat do not use lyft
So I decided since I had free time in the evenings I would drive to make a little money. Ha! This piece of Sh** company refused to pay me my $49.64 I earned for giving rides that day. Contacted customer service and their reply is let's wait too see if you get paid next week? What kind of answer is that? I had to put gas in my car after driving expecting to get paid but no they are still refusing! The customer service rep was named SHANE. This company is a complete sham! If you have to ride share make sure it's not with Lyft!
Done with Lyft. The last 4 rides were horrible. 2 trips home from airport with drivers blasting music and refusing to turn it down. Both cars reeked of weed and drivers were rude. Next ride from train station, (which I refused) driver's crying infant is in the car. Last trip, driver picked up the wrong passenger leaving me stranded and at risk of missing my flight. Lyft customer service was unreachable. Had to call a yellow cab then fight the Lyft charge for a ride I didn't take.
I left my phone in Lyft 3 weeks ago. I have filed "Lost Item" a few times.
Lyft can't even get the driver to respond.
Their respond was "the drivers are independent contractors and don't have to answer to us". I was like are you for real?
They drive under you freaking name. So you don't have absolute clue who are they then. That's scary.
I absolutely love Lyft. They do a great job. They let you know about the cc holds. If I leave my valuables in a Lyft ride, I don't expect the driver to check behind m, because I'm adult and should be responsible for my own things, but I've had several drivers contact me and also return things that I have left in their vehicles at no extra charge. I have also entered wrong info into the gps, and they still get me where I'm going. As with any company, things can go wrong, but Lyft definitely does a great job trying to make sure everything runs smoothly.
I have been trying to get a Lyft for 3 hrs. At first a driver was 11 minutes away then 2 minutes later I get notifications that they're looking for me another driver. Unlike Uber, Lyft does not release the "temporary" hold of funds right away if they can't get you a ride. It takes 5-7 days. There's no customer service number to call, messaging them is useless, and their policy sucks. I am currently sitting here at my job after being off the clock for 3 hrs. I am deleting the app because I'm never using it again. Bad business! Oh and make sure you have extra funds because if it's the last of your money that was used to get a Lyft you will be left walking if you don't have family or friends to pick you up.
Their application doesn't work correctly and can double-booked. Leading to excess charges with no recourse or customer service. The next time I consider using a ride-sharing app I will firmly closed a heavy door on my hand eight times as hard as I can. Then reconsider
They charged me $80 for a 'damage fee' just because the driver sent a photo of scuff marks that were there before I entered the car. I argued endlessly and customer service was beyond unhelpful. They didn't even try. It seems their policy is to allow these scams with insufficient proof and there is nothing you can do. Avoid Lyft as the drivers can do this scam whenever they want and you will not be able to stop it.
While in DC I decided to install and use the Lyft app because it was tied to my skymiles account. I ordered a ride from Reagan Int'l to my hotel. The upfront estimate was a little over $63. Because of my prior experience with UBER was that this would be cheaper than other ground transportation choices. When I got to my hotel, a colleague told me that the had paid less than $25 for a regular taxi to the hotel. I emailed LYFT and inquired why the big difference. They offered a lame excuse and no reduction since I was given the price up front. I could understand a slight difference, but definitely not over twice the cost. I am deleting my account immediately as they are ripping off people. One star is 100 times what they deserve. Pathetic and not customer friendly.
Two times in a row, because of the slow $#*! app, where there is always a delay showing where the car is, went out of the door when alerted to and drivers were already gone, who likely did not wait at all, then got charged for $5.00 for no-show that you can't possibly dispute. Apparently they trust more on the driver to show up based on their GPS than the customer's show at the location. Fu** you, Lyft!
The ride itself is usually OK with the driver being competent and getting you to the right place. However, I've had frequent problems with my request being arbitrarily cancelled without warning because no one would take my request - or worse have a driver accept it and then cancel at the last minute. Given that I've thus far been using it to get to work while i work on my license, this is pretty unacceptable - especially since it means I can't trust the estimated time of arrival either.
Tip for consumers:
Give plenty of time to get a rider, because it might take a while for someone to show up.

I ordered Lyft for a ride that was 39 miles, the cost $62. I waited outside, ride never came, check my phone and it says I'm in car. I attempt to contact Lyft and order an Uber as I am now late for work(pediatric homecare nurse). 5 minutes into Uber ride I get a text and email from Lyft stating they are charging me $180 for cleaning fees on a car, I never stepped foot in. Argued back n forth for 4 hrs, finally stating that the cameras at my home clearly show me waiting, driver never showing and Uber pulling up 17 minutes later. Took 4 days but they refunded my money. I woke up this morning and $360 was taken from my account! Lyft customer service sucks! My lawyer contacted them and faxed a cease and desest letter as well as a formal warning of my pending lawsuit.

None as driver never arrived.
Booked three hours before I had to be at airport. Continuously advised a ride was on the way, close, just a few more minutes, would be faster if I paid more - went from $42 to $135 for a 30 minute drive. I agreed and car never arrived for my trip to the airport, missed my sun destination flight, booked a month ago. Left with flight/hotel and higher cost travel options. Vancouver Lyft is a joke, do not use, unreliable and liars.
Scheduled a ride to the airport 3 days in advance. He didn't show. No contact telling me. Pitiful service! Nowhere to complain on Lyft app. Left me scrambling for another ride. Won't use them again as I can't trust them. I would give a rating less than 1 star if I could.
I switched to lyft when I was offered a $200 credit for trying the app. I use Uber at least once a month so I figured I'd try them out. First, the credits expired within a few weeks which is fine but who would ever take that many rides in 2.5 weeks. False advertising if you ask me. But anyway, I used the service and they charge your account $25 dollars in a pre-activation fee to make sure my card is legitimate. They did it for every "free" ride I took. In one night I had $75 worth of pending charges on my account to cover three $5 rides. It's been several days now and the charges have not been cleared off. Now I have to worry if my payments will go through on that card and not knowing when the money will be free to use. I'm a student, $75 is a lot to hold in my account. Ill never use lyft again.
Bottom line... They rip off drivers but I call it stealing! Make you drive to a location to pick up and it cancels and no cancellation fee this has happened repeatedly. And other serious app issues. Lyft does not care about drivers believe me!
Lyft has really let me down. After only good experiences we accepted a ride from Lyft at the Fort Lauderdale airport. With Luke. Waited at the ride share area and watched others get picked up. Tried to help Luke locate us and all of a sudden he charged us $10 for a ride we never received stating ride is completed? I complained on their app only to be told they would not match me to the driver again. But still charged? Tried complaining thru the app again but only allowed to check boxes- not deliver true feedback. Company has never reached out. Have pics of messaging and us still stuck at the airport after Luke claims he dropped us off. Will they ever reach out to me regarding? 1/29/23. They should trust customers feedback as a recurring client. Shawn kurtzahn
Ford dealership paid for Lyft to take me home after I dropped off my truck. The driver had to stop to get gas while I was in his car and asked me if I could give him his TIP in advance in cash so he could buy gas!
Then when we got yo my house he told me I "was very attractive and hoped I did not find him saying so creepy". I said thank you and shut the door. I did NOT tip him! Then after he backed out of my driveway he burned rubber in the street and sped away going probably 40 mph! I was pissed! Could not rate/review him because Ford dealership was the customer.
You would think that Lyft would be on top of their game! But that's not the case app issue like inadequate locations that stops you from logging in for 3 hours and no driver support to fix the problem
I signed on with Lyft with the understanding that once i complete 100 rides in 30 days, I will receive an $1,100 bonus and the person who referred me will get $500 referral fee. After doing an live chat and speaking a customer service representative to confirm this, apparently this is not true. As a handicap minority who has an amputated left foot, I would work tirelessly in hopes of completing the task at hand. I actually completed it in 15 days but kept working because I thought this was a great company to work for. To know that I was misled to believe this is very disheartening. I am going to make sure this happens to no one else. I am on a fixed income and was expecting this bonus to help with bills.
Both services periodically suffer from faulty mapping systems where the pickup location is incorrectly identified even after the correct location is shown on the app initially. This happens more often with designated hotel pickup locations, like in Las Vegas. I noticed that many drivers use their own cell phones with Google maps precisely for this reason. When this problem does occur, it is extremely frustrating for the passenger, especially since often the drivers cannot be contacted by phone or text. In my experience the problem does occur more often with Uber
