I just used their service in Whitby, Ontario, Canada. I constantly received emails and updates regarding my appointment, making me feel secure. When the movers came, they worked at a steady pace and were accommodating. I would use the service again.
Don't even think of using Makespace. They maliciously advertise as being a standard storage service and calculate your storage needs accordingly, but once they have your things they'll claim you need more space, because (surprise, surprise!) They conveniently forgot to mention that their storage units are actually only 4 feet tall, so they will "upgrade" your plan and automatically charge you double or triple what they originally quoted you. An outright scam that, based on the insane amount of negative reviews on the internet is probably on its last legs and will most likely shutter soon or be put put of its misery by a good old lawsuit from one or many of the people they've screwed over. Avoid like the plague.

Tip for consumers:
Do not use.
My items were mishandled and broken. Perhaps an unhappy employee? YOU must submit the website of where you purchased the broken/damaged item in order to be reimbursed. You have 30 days to do so. MakeSpace did process my damage claim quickly.
Tip for consumers:
They have a good idea with this business, just need the right workers. Be wary of the BIG item extra fees!!
They delivered the boxes to be pre-packed on time. I moved from a 1 BR 750 sq2 apartment. Their final cubic foot estimate of 10'x20' storage locker is exaggerated. By their own estimates a 10'x20' area would fit a 3BR with household applicances. I sold my couch and bicycles to mimimize storage space. I have no major kitchen appliances. I have a platform bed with headboard and mattress, large dresser and an IKEA desk. For the most part most of the items were boxes. You will get cloud photos of your items wrapped and cataloed, but not photos of how your items are stacked or stored in their facility. I question this, as proof of how your items are stored would back up what they are saying. My quote of $179 just ballooned to $400 plus dollars. Their movers are polite and very professional. They do send email reminders of pick up and delivery dates. I would NOT recommend this service unless they start supplying customers with finished product, ie., photos of items placed in their final storage place.
Tip for consumers:
Go with the other storage facilities. Their original price quotes are closer to what you will be actuall charged.
Except for the friendly delivery guys (Joshua R, Felix M and amex team), my experience with MakeSpace was really terrible.
First of all, the price was increased by changing the contract and changing the storage size while my items were stored. And by changing the subscription conditions (shipping was free when I signed up for Makespace. Then it changed. It was $59 per delivery.
The TV, chest of drawers, two coffee tables and hangers were completely smashed and unusable and the desk chipped in.
What's even more annoying is that things are missing.
It contained a Chanel bag and a Saint Laurent bag, as well as clothes and a blanket tote bag too.
They say they will look for it, but I wonder if they will find it or if I will be rewarded.
Finally (not the Joshua R, Felix M and amex team), the team that helped with the delivery made it uncomfortable by moving things roughly with an unwilling look and attitude.

I've used this company three times and the third time is not the charm.
They moved me out of storage on April 26,2020 with slow and inexperienced movers. They completely damaged a vintage china cabinet owned by my parents which I had refurbished and was in mint condition as well as a lost item and two other damaged pieces of furniture.
Whatever your insurance policy coverage amount is is what Make Space will cover regardless of how extensive the damage due to their negligence. My cabinet repair cost is $2410. My coverage is only $1000. Who knew that I needed to buy a lot of coverage because I had trusted them from prior moves.
They have asked me to sign a release form in order to get the $1000 thus releasing them from any further liability. Way to go in protecting their customers.
Make Space does not care about you or their reputation. This is a rip off company with no pride in what they do.
Really bad service.
Difficult to work with, demanding paperwork, and they destroyed quite a bit of my stuff. Glassware, which I understand. But they also shattered a light fixture when they delivered it (banging into the wall) and dragged all the bins on our brand new wood floors, scratching the hell out of those.
Anytime you reach out to them, they respond "Please note that, as per our Terms of Service, you agreed to 'waive all rights and claims against MakeSpace should your fragile stuff break or other be damaged.'"
If you care about your things, stay away.
Conclusion: If you value your items, safety, and home, don't store with MakeSpace.
They have lost or broken at least one item every time they have made a delivery to my home. They lost four whole suitcases I was storing and have delivered other people's items to me. They broke all four of my air conditioning units that I stored during the off season. They've even attempted to bully me to take down my honest negative reviews!
Their delivery guys always make me uncomfortable. At best, they're just rude and incompetent, at worst they are creepy, too familiar, and aggressive. I've had to call and complain about them. What was done about my complaints? Nothing.
Finally, they have damaged every floor and wall in my home from the front door to my bedroom.
Save yourself the headache and go with the competition!
I would caution anyone contemplating the use of Make Space as your mover of choice to rethink your decision. The way in which may painting, artwork and furniture was handled was appalling. At delivery there was over $2500 in damages because of absolutely horrible packing methods by the movers at my old home. Literally took them downstairs and unbeknownst to me threw them in a box! The artwork was wrapped all together and stacked 15 hi, broken glass damaged frames, damaged artwork. Instead, of standing behind their methods of their movers, I was offered $250! Reason oh "that's all the insurance you have". Why that might be true gross negligence by your movers should warrant a different answer. I will be filing a complaint with the Federal Commerce Commission.
This company will be out of business sooner rather than later but before they scam anyone else:
1) held my items for 2-3 weeks before I could get delivered.
2) they're team tore apart my Restoration Hardware bed and destroyed it ($1750). They offered $175 as compensation.
3) they will charge you a minimum of 3 months storage whether you use or not and $60 for every pick up and drop off. They purposely obfuscate this information so you're locked in.
Will be disputing with my credit card company.
Do not use them if you care about your items.
Do NOT use this company.
I have been trying to get my stuff back for weeks, and they literally cannot seem to find which warehouse it's located in. I've hired movers multiple times to pick up my stuff in the warehouse that Makespace has given me, and they gave me the wrong address. So I'm stuck paying thousands of dollars in fees because of errors by the company.
I would HIGHLY recommend storing your stuff in a location where you know where it is. I'm living through a nightmare right now.
The workers are all very nice HOWEVER, the people who moved and packed my items seemed like young college kids. I stored my items with them from 2020-2022, two years! When I finally moved my items out of storage, so many precious items of mine were lost or damaged! Terrible! Would not recommend to anyone. Avoid if you can. They may seem nice, but they lack professionalism and care.
I gave MakeSpace brand news boxes in March 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic. This is what I received three weeks ago. On top of my "forgotten " bookshelf that supposed to be included with this delivery ( pictured below). They rescheduled another appointment only to call the morning of and say the warehouse forgot to include my bookshelf in the delivery. It was the one item I requested to be delivered and they forgot it. I just got email saying they are looking for the bookshelf but that I need to go ahead and make a claim... because it might be lost. A bookshelf. A whole bookshelf is lost. Do not use this company. Save yourself the headache.
There is virtually no way to get your things out if you need to. The company claims they use and paints a picture as if your items are moved around by robots etc. (think amazon warehouse), but this is false. All they have is a website with a backend application that stores pictures of your items to give that impression.
It's been two weeks and I can still not set an appointment to get my things out.
Worst storage company possible. Get away from them. You expect a storage company would secure your belongings while in their custody. We had 11 items broken. Stay away from these guys if you want your stuff preserved!
Makespace said that under the terms of service they are not liable for damages in fragile items. This is a very odd argument for a company that is paid to store household items. Worst of all, the crew that came to my house to pick up stuff saw all the labels saying fragile and the contents (including their manager, Carlos) and no one advised or expressed concerns on the risks. Clearly, in the way my goods were broken they were not careful in transit or in storing. So, if you have bricks to store, go ahead with them. But if you have something that you care about, stay away.
I had an excellent experience here. Deidre Thompson, Jacobo Molina and Macire Traore were very prompt and professional in their service. All of my items came back intact (and I stored whiskey glasses, computer monitor, xbox, etc.). The experience here really is incredible and makes the entire process of moving and storage so incredibly easy.
Tip for consumers:
Be responsible and book your appointments in advance. Also, be sure to wrap up anything that is valuable in paper or something protective.
Absolutely despicable how they treat their Black and brown customers. There have been NUMEROUS complaints about late arrivals, no contact, and being careless/reckless when moving items. They get items dirty, throw items into a space with no thought, and they're completely dismissive and refuse to take accountability for their actions! One of the white movers, who has been fired, said the n word to a Black customer. And customer service proceeded to be completely rude and refused to assist this customer! Broken items, damaged items, dirty items - think of a problem and i'm sure the a customer has dealt with each one with this company! This company does not truly care about their customers, otherwise the problems customers have continuously been facing would be solved. But instead they continue to bring problems. Gross service overall. Ew. Find another service.
My initial experience with MakeSpace was pretty good, when they picked up my items. However, upon trying to get access to my property stored with MakeSpace, I was told there would be a month-long delay -- and I'd be charged for the extra time.
At no point has MakeSpace indicated such long delays. Their TOS indicates they aim to return property within 72 hours of requests, and my initial conversations with sales and customer support echoed that. But now, without any prior warning (like an email notification, for example) I'm told that I'm unable to access my own property for over a month.
This has led me to lose significant money as I have no access to my own furniture and other items, which I needed within a matter of a couple of weeks -- not a month.
Considering how unreliable this company is, and the fact they take no responsibility for their failure to provide reasonable service, I recommend using a regular storage company where you have control over access to your unit.

Pickup and storage
I received 9 boxes from storage. A lamp base was damaged and the shade was smashed. Also a wire magazine rack was crushed. BUT, although this is on par for what I have read in other reviews, I immediately put in a claim and they got back to me asap and offered me the full amount for damage and made the process so incredibly easy. Thanks to Eve and the team. Even tho I had damage, unlike a lot of the bad reviews I've seen, they were right on top of making it right for me. A+ for customer service.
I spent thousands storing my belongings with them over multiple years and when I received my items back EVERY single piece of furniture was destroyed. Not damaged, destroyed. Chair legs snapped, cabinets smashed and my couch was so moldy that it had to be thrown away because of the smell.
The damage is well in excess of $10,00 however the team only offered me $700 in damages which isn't just insulting its illegal. I was never offered the option for additional insurance like many other people.
I'm now heading into the weekend with no furniture so am required to rent some in the meantime whilst this issue is resolved. I'll be sure to add this expense as part of our ongoing dispute.
Whats worse is that their team said that movers were INTENTIONALLY damaging items when they heard that MakeSpace was being acquired by Clutter.
Please feel free to reach out to me for any specific as if the matter isn't resolved in the next few days I'll be filing a class action lawsuit.
I have stored my belongings with Makespace for 3 years. Things were fine for the first 2 years. Then, Makespace merged with Clutter. They sent an email that had links to long terms and conditions that basically said that they can change the pricing whenever and however they want. They increased my rate 25%. But what is worse is that they changed the charge for my final delivery of items from $59 to $4000. This is robbery. I had a multi-year agreement with Makespace to deliver the items at the low rate, which was part of why I signed. Then they changed it in a sneaky manner, with a long email and links to vague language, and claimed that I had agreed to the terms by continuing to use their service. This is not ok. Do not use them.
Really don't recommend using it. When you want to retrieve your stuff, they don't have too much delivery time slot for you to select. You have to wait for two to three weeks or even longer.
Meaning not only you can't get your stuff quickly, but you also have to pay the additional monthly fees.
Which is ridiculous.
I've asked them to send me a single photo of how my stuff stack and stored, but they rejected it.
I tried to reach out to them to learn how can I retrieve my stuff by myself, but no one answers the phone calls.
No information online.
No storage address.
It's easy and convenient for you to store.
But it is extremely painful when you want to retrieve things.
Using MakeSpace service is like you store your stuff in a black hole.
I was happy with this company at first. The movers were friendly and careful with my items. However, it is the corporate side of things I have a big issue with. Upon requesting items be returned to me they did not return all the items which were requested. It is impossible to get in touch with customer service (no one answers the phones and after 40 minutes on hold they hang up on you) and email responses are very very delayed. On top of not returning my items when initially requested they are now holding on to the remaining few items and still charging for "storage." They are holding these items hostage and requiring me to pay for ANOTHER delivery. Will not be using them again and do not recommend unless you plan to permanently store your items.
I used Make Space in February of 2020 to store my apartment furnishings. On September 12 I had all of my items returned to me. Boxes were crushed and many many of our cherished items were destroyed that could never be replaced for no $ amount. This was devastating. Dishes that were passed from generations were all smashed. It was heartbreaking. We lost our family member to CoViD and this added to the pain. Mgmt did not even call to inquire. The customer service people were the only ones who seemed to care. We live in NYC and would not ever recommend them. Please see photos below.
MakeSpace was a terrible disappointment. I wish I looked at the Google reviews before using them. As a customer, I can't even write a review on their website to contribute an actual review; are all the website reviews currated and fake?
They are overpriced and scam you out of money at every opportunity they have. They say you're "locking in a quote" and then change it upon pickup to get more money. The whole experience was awful and then when they delivered my things last weekend one of the movers eventually said he didn't feel well and now my sister has COVID. Avoid this awful business.
Extremely unprofessional. Their team will offer you so many things - free delivery, free bags etc but when it's time for billing they will charge you for everything as per their "terms of service." Don't trust what they promise on the phone - even after reviewing the calls they'll say there's been a misunderstanding from their end and they can't honour the agreement. They charged me extra because they could not deliver my items on time so they charged for the days my items were in storage when it was their fault they couldn't deliver on time.
Never using this service again. Try Access storage and save yourself all the hassle.
If you want a good storage company, better look elsewhere. At first you think it's convenient and cost affective but what you get is a company that loses some of your things and damages your items. I have never experienced such frustration, disappointment, and anger dealing with this company. They have no regard for your personal items, and their delivery people are young, inexperienced, and irresponsible. I would rather pay a more expensive storage company that's actually competent, and the final thing is they don't have a way for you to access your storage unit. They have a holding facility where they keep your things, but it's not like your standard storage unit where you have a key and can access it at any time. DO NOT do business with these people, if you value your personal items.
MakeSpace is your on-demand storage option. Never visit a storage unit again. You pack. We pick up, store, and redeliver.
